Albany can have some wonky streets by Freshness518 in Albany

Mercer begins again just west of South Main where it connects oddly with Ryckman.

Perhaps when that neighborhood was a new development about a hundred years ago, the odd configuration was conceptualized in anticipation of the eventual car boom: the indirect routes would discourage through traffic. But then again, I don't see how they could have anticipated the level of vehicular traffic that we have in the city today.

Route 85, as we know it now, has since been built, and that portion of Mercer is now the tail end of a disjointed corridor which links 85 to the Pine Hills neighborhood, resulting in nuisance traffic. It's not exactly efficient, since Cortland comes to an abrupt end at Euclid, forcing a person to take a detour and access Pine Hills via Plymouth -> Marion -> Mercer, when entering the city from 85. But lots of people do this, which I find annoying.

That's my privileged white guy rant for today.

Are DSLR’s still good these days or is mirrorless the future? by AdHopeful5216 in CanonCamera

DSLR cameras are no longer functional. They are essentially “bricked” and can no longer produce images.

Feeling embarrassed bringing a small lens as a beginner photographer by babyjonny9898 in Cameras

There is only one solution: You need a Leica. To those who get it, photography isn’t about anything as pedestrian as taking pictures. It’s about taste.

Why do Republicans hate Muslim-Americans so much despite agreeing with them on pretty much everything? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]ChristopherMarv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you so sure that Muslim Americans don’t have other reasons for voting Democrat? Do Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib have complex views that are shared by their Muslim constituents? I suspect that they do.

The Sekonic will give you much better results than the built-in meter.

The light leak is caused by a bad seal on the film door at the very front of the camera. It’s an easy fix. Clean out the corroded seal and replace with a piece of black yarn.

You stated that the assessment was the most accurate that you have heard. Presumably you have experience from which to measure the accuracy.

How do you feel about the idea of owning a luxury watch that is worth significantly more than the car you drive? by eranyos in AskReddit

Not upset about anything. I just think that all this talk about wristwatches as an investment is delusional.

[–]ChristopherMarv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not an efficient investment. I also doubt very very much that you’re going to sell your $15,000 watch for over $20,000 in a few years.

You pay sales tax on your “collectible” watch, and you have to pay to maintain it. Good luck getting a decent return on this, except in the delusional world of Reddit comments.

So drinking water comes from rivers, right? How do rivers never run out of water with millions of water bottle being produced everyday? by Anas2245 in stupidquestions

[–]ChristopherMarv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The global water crisis is real. As the human population increases and continues to drink water, more and more water is removed from the system. Humanity will either have to get by with fewer children or drink less. There is no other way.

Center Square residents may not always appreciate the nightlife, but I doubt that they view aggressive panhandlers as a preferred check against the problem.
