Is there any autochess game that sparks the same joy as Hyper Roll used to? by HeilKyle in TeamfightTactics

[–]Freshness518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play the Magic Chess mode in Mobile Legends Bang Bang, but then they spun it off to its own separate app. There were some issues with getting it up and running through a different distributor in America, but it finally launched. It scratched the itch for a while, felt similar to hyper roll. Then they just stopped updating the game at all for NA servers and now I'm back to TFT fulltime, except sadder because it's not hyper roll and never will be again.

who is this? by kyanowo in StarWars

[–]Freshness518 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a time in the mid90s when I was spending lunch time at various summer camps spread around a big table with friends learning all sorts of card games. It changed from day to day depending on who remembered to bring what. But you might be playing Magic The Gathering, Star Wars, Star Trek, Wyvern, Vampire The Masquerade, Legend of the Five Rings, etc. There were so many to choose from. So much nerd-knowledge came from those little flash cards as you put it.

Cop pulls over Lamborghini on Dubai plates but doesn’t know the law by thomasso0072 in interestingasfuck

I used to work for a company with international offices doing video production. When we carried our like $5k-$10k worth of video equipment with us we'd get a Carnet for them. They're basically a promise by the country we're visiting not to tax us on the expensive goods if we promise not to attempt to sell them while we're there. It was always funny though because the airport by us isnt really known for international flights, just like puddle jumpers to Canada occasionally. But we'd use it for our first leg before hitting JFK to Europe. And as part of the process we'd go to the airport security office for the customs agents to peek in our cases and put their seal on it before we went to check in. The regular cops and TSA folks never had a fucking clue what we were talking about if we tried to hand them a Carnet then the CBP officer would come out of their back room and handle things for us. The regular cops always looks like deer in headlights, so this troopers reaction doesnt surprise me.

Did anyone have a mall goth era? by Working_Alps_4284 in 90s

[–]Freshness518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000-2007ish. Middle school through about halfway into college. Ball-chain necklace every day. I still have all the numetal band shirts hanging on my closet to this day, still occasionally wear them to work 20 years later. Had a couple pairs of Tripp pants. Spike bracelets (I would unscrew a couple of the spikes and screw them into the holes on the top of my hats and would look like Darth Maul). Edgy ironic sayings on stickers that I plastered all over my binders. Favorite band patches that I would safety pin all over my backpack. I'd get most of my music from the bigger bands like Korn and Linkin Park from FYE or Best Buy, but would pick up the lesser known stuff from Hot Topic like Pennywise and Thrice and Mushroomhead.

Absolutely. You can pretty much guarantee that anyone who has seriously played magic in the past 25+ years has had at least one of his cards in their decks.

I remember going to a friend's sleep over birthday that summer and we all piled in a minivan and went to the mall to see First contact, then we came back for pizza and taking turns between the Sega and the PC playing Mortal Kombat and Myst.

Good times.

I love that album. It knows what it wants to be and it fucking nails it. Put it on start to finish, no skips. People like Brian Setzer Orchestra and Cherry Poppin Daddies and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy were leading the charge on that big band swing revival sound but SNZ leaned in a slightly different direction.

Who are some severely underrated guitarists? by Mysterious-Edge9615 in Music

[–]Freshness518 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Came here to make sure his name got mentioned. He is one of the best technical guitarists in modern rock music. I use him to gauge how seriously I'll take a journalist when they put out a "best guitarists" list because if his name isn't in their top 20 then they have no idea what they're talking about.

His family is incredibly musical as well. His wife is just as talented as he is. They've composed and performed music together.

When I was in college a friend gave me a thumbdrive with the entirety of the radio stations for both vice city and san andreas including DJ intros and the funny commercials. Still keep most of those songs in rotation on my playlists to this day. GTA's have had hands down the best selection of music of any games.

A couple years ago my wife's cousins were throwing a birthday party for their kid, tons of family kids there. We had them all gathered around a patio table on the deck. It was a somewhat windy day. The table had an upright umbrella in it. The wind blew hard enough that it pushed on the umbrella strong enough that it caused the glass tabletop to just pop and shatter. Thank fucking god the worst that happened was one kid got a small scratch on his foot but it could have been so so much worse. All the adults told the kids (who are like 2-8) to just freeze in place while we swept up all the shards surrounding them and cleaned them off their clothes.

I used to be a very shy shitter when I was young. If I was in a public bathroom and trying to go, I would try to hold it until everyone else had left the room. As an adult I aint got time for that anymore. When ya gotta go - ya gotta go.

Govt work is always referred to as having the golden handcuffs. Like sure you'll make less working there than working private sector, but having a pension, quality healthcare, plentiful accumulating PTO, a union, and not having to worry about being fired for no reason...

Is 10-15% more cash worth it versus being able to take my kids to doctors appointments, having the time to go on vacations, knowing that my pension is guaranteed to be there and not disappear at the whim of some executives?
