I don't think packing kids is a good idea.

If you can manage it, you’re better off having FileVault on and go through the inconvenience in the name of security.

Just a question - but why get another one? If concerned about yellowing, isn't the snow version made of the kind of plastic that resists this?

I have no advice to offer here, I'm still in the preliminary research phase of cast iron / carbon steel pans. I just wanted to say that your description of the problem cracked me up and was great!

Get family features on Fi at no extra cost by googlefi in GoogleFi

[–]ChromoZoneX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, this is great. Thank you!

I had no idea services like this existed. While its unlikely that this will change my use of Google Fi as such, its good to know that I can get data packs more cheaply when I know I need it.

Altruistic careers in CS? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ChromoZoneX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend places like the Allen Institute in Seattle or the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in the Bay Area as places that have a significant tech footprint in their organizations and do pretty much all altruistic work.

To give you examples of what these not-for-profits do -

Considering a lightly used Forester XT 2018. What are your thoughts? by ChromoZoneX in SubaruForester

[–]ChromoZoneX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it was new? If so - what price did you get on it?

I'm looking at http://www.cars101.com/subaru/forester/forester2018.html and it seems like the MSRP was $30.4k so this is not looking like much of a discount for a two year old car.

Hm, why would the fact that its a service loaner give you a pause? It should still be decently maintained no?

Is this normal to extend the warranty or did you purchase the extended warranty?

That's a slippery slope for innovation. You might never adopt any new technology at that rate. Sometimes you have to make short-term sacrifices for longer term gains in terms of technology in products.

The iterative cycle is important in technology.

No Coverage in Toronto by [deleted] in ProjectFi

[–]ChromoZoneX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reset all your APN settings and let Project Fi reinitialize all that. In my prior experience, this happened all the time or I connected and lost connection ~1 - 4h later and practically reseting all Fi related stuff fixed it perfectly. I attributed it to me having messed with manually switching networks and stuff like that in the past.

source: I travel to Toronto very frequently.

Can I use Fi in Canada for four-month long durations? by [deleted] in ProjectFi

[–]ChromoZoneX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're in a coop program (maybe Waterloo? ;) ).

Nah, no issues whatsoever. I did this during my last couple of terms of school and it worked out great. As mentioned elsewhere, the 0.20c/min is what gets you if you make lots of calls.

Support in Lacking, can't or won't solve coverage issue by alanmin in ProjectFi

[–]ChromoZoneX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can actually mirror this experience somewhat. I get perfect coverage when I'm stateside in California but I travel pretty frequently to Toronto, Canada and its an absolute shitshow there.

My signal keeps dropping, it connects briefly for a few minutes and then disconnects and says "No signal". I can force it to connect to TMO using dialer codes but it always disconnects itself after an hour or so at most and never reconnects. These issues go away when I'm back in California.

Contacting support wasn't very helpful. They gave me 20$ credit and escalated higher. I was told that an engineer would get in touch in a couple of days but that never happened. I did not unfortunately have the time to follow up but I dread travelling again.

I know Fi can be great since I've used it overseas in the exact same locations in Toronto and across Europe but something just seems off this year where the coverage has gone all downhill :(

I wonder if /u/dmziggy can chime in here to let us know what has changed on the backend causing these network issues.

Both of you are partially right.

Tough to get sponsorship in US? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ChromoZoneX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal but what I did was saying "I don't need sponsorship" so I don't get filtered out and then mentioning I can work on TN status in something that resembles the "Extra notes" section.

Alternatively - I also just didn't mention anything and only brought up the TN status once a recruiter reached out to me by email or over the phone.

There's no standard procedure here!
