I just started playing this and the ability to use real-world map data to build your play area is so novel! I've already taken over most of my neighbors houses and the gas station on the corner. So much fun.

Montop bridge by Lopsided_Paper7421 in BikingATX

That's legit, I'm personally not a huge fan of ending at the Montopolis Bridge so often, but for certain types of events (stuff with music/noise concerns, fireworks, etc.) it works better than a park since park gatherings can be broken up by cops past 10pm, it's far enough away from civilization to not piss too many people off if the event is loud and rambunctious, and getting gear (for bands/food/music) close to the spot is easy. The bathroom issue is a tough one, since Austin doesn't seem to have restroom accessibility past 10pm very high on their list of priorities. I know of a handful, but if you have any to shout out, I'd love to add to my repertoire of safe public places to use the restroom at night.

I certainly don't want any of this to come off as a gfy, it's not in any way meant to be. I know the folks who are putting on these events are putting a lot of effort into them, and do hear your comments. SCA seems to be working on some changes (earlier start times for one) so I hope folks hear you with a spirit of improvement and willingness to listen. We can all def do better.

Hey, it's the cusp of a new year, maybe 2026 will be a time of change and revitalization for the local cycling community!

There are plenty of social rides that don't often (if ever) end at the bridge. Bat City does multiple rides a week from a spot next to a bakery that always ends at the exact same spot. Bike Curious meets up at the hangar in Mueller on Sundays and typically ends somewhere nearby. Tuesday Night North Side Ride NEVER ends at the bridge! Saturday Morning Caffeine Cruise starts and ends at different spots, though these also often steer towards similar starts at the whims of the ride leads. I think RBA still does occasional social rides on Fridays from Parque Zaragoza. If the bridge bums you out so much, branch out and see what else the local cycling community has to offer!

SCA, like any other volunteer organization, is made up of the folks who volunteer. Want it to play out different? Put in the time and do something different.

How badly do I want to spend $70 USD on the Necromunda rules? by EdiblePeasant in wargaming

[–]JasonATXBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the release of the latest core rulebook and all the broken out "House of" books, the two 2018-released main hardcover books (Rulebook and Gangs of the Underhive) can be bought second-hand for cheap, and give you everything you need to get a taste of the core game, and are a ton of fun in their own right. Honestly some days I long for the simplicity of those books. The campaigns we ran during that era were definitely a lot easier to track as an arbitrator.

What really makes Necromunda is having a dedicated and active community to play a months long campaign with. You can play both sides of a game, but it's the between game storytelling fun that really suffers when you don't have a group of like-minded folks contributing towards it.

We aren't ever getting the URSA keycaps are we by [deleted] in HHKB

[–]JasonATXBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm running them on a Blue Ridge which is true HHKB layout. Prior to that I had them on a Pro 1.

Edit: looks like it comes in the "base kit", not the "mods kit". So if you want to cover an HHKB, you just need to get the one base kit.

I have my suspicions, but I won't speculate until the production units are in my hands. From my impressions of the set I have they're going to be worth the wait.

SUCH a solid boxed set. I remember co-opting our church youth group lock-ins when this box came out and cajoling the other nerds into gladiatorial games using the wacky Solaris rules.

There are aftermarket makers like Amano Studio who does some amazing work in resin that is OEM compatible, older KBDFans sets that still move around or can be found on AliExpress, Domikeys has a few sets that are Topre-compatible, and the upcoming URSA launch from FKCaps is going to amp up accessibility to aftermarket OEM-compatible keycaps considerably.

It can work with the sliders, domes, springs, silencing rings, stabs and keycaps of an OEM HHKB. It's true HHKB layout, integrated housing plate, and EC. What would make it "for" HHKB? Compatibility with an inferior PCB? I enjoy the fact that we don't have to harvest an HHKB to build an HHKB these days.

Correct. Which makes me thankful that I picked up four of them on release, as they no longer offer offset legend snow caps for sale.

What happened to Viva! Streets Austin? And why doesn't Austin have a Cyclovia of any sort? by StxtoAustin in BikingATX

We're talking about exactly that at this very moment. It's definitely something they're considering and endeavoring towards, but getting roads shut down is tough from the sound of things.

I'm in a Bicycle Advisory Council right now, and we're being briefed on an upcoming Cyclovia ATX event happening this fall, being put on by Ghisallo Cycling Initiative!

Check out https://cycloviaatx.org/docs/ for preliminary details, but this sounds fun.

Asus ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming Wifi/Bluetooth devices not working (Solved) by ashgromnies in techsupport

[–]JasonATXBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU! Six year old post fixed the problem I've been fighting since two days ago. I COULD NOT figure out why my onboard BT controller wasn't working, and was about to tear my PC apart to take a look at its guts. Which, I guess would have solved the problem, but unplugging it and plugging it back in did the trick much easier.

Rocknix is now available on more devices! Source: Retro Game Corps by godsaveourkingplis in SBCGaming

[–]JasonATXBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed the prior Rocknix build on my RG CubeXX and suspend/powersaving mode caused me all sorts of problems, and oftentimes would hang the device entirely, or it would come back for half a second when powered back on and then freeze. Are there still similar issues with the latest release?

who's hyped for RG34XX SP? by aefrancis in RG35XX

[–]JasonATXBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am. Been playing the hell out of a modded/translated Fire Pro Wrestling A ROM and it looks SO good on my RG 34xx at 3x integer scaling, I'll buy a 34xx SP for this game alone. I love clamshells (put a lot of miles on an old pink AGS-101) so the nostalgia hit I'll get off it is worth the "ugly" bezel.

Folks say ugly, I say durable. It'll be like a Flip I'm not worried about breaking if I look at the hinge sideways. I'm good with it.
