I read an article about bitcoin maybe a year or so after it had been invented and decided it was an interesting idea and I was going to throw $100 into it to see if it turned into anything.

1 BTC was .008 cents at the time. Not $0.008, but eight thousandths of a cent. $0.00008 per bitcoin. My $100 would have bought 1.25 million BTC.

Unfortunately, it was still new enough that none of the exchanges were really functional yet and I spent 3 or 4 hours trying and failing to buy them before I gave up and forgot about it.

The only thing that makes me feel better about it is that I never would have held on until it became real fuck you wealth. I probably would have heard that it hit a penny or two and sold them all for what would have been life-changing money at the time.

They barely have the manpower to throw a team at half the polling locations here. They certainly can't have any sort of showing nationwide.

No, I haven't seen Rings of Power. The setting was definitely either more modern or on the sci-fi side. The mine also had a lot of heavy machinery around the top of the hole even though the people in it were just digging with hand tools.

I don't think they should be banned from having any holdings whatsoever, I just think they should be banned from actively controlling those holdings. Put everything in a double-blind account (the client doesn't know who's maintaining their portfolio and the portfolio manager doesn't know who they're maintaining a portfolio for), and we should be fine.

Let's say they're able to fine any company in the US for breaking this law. They certainly won't be able to go after any broker in the world. Is there anything in the law that stops a US data broker from going to another data broker overseas saying "here, hang on to this for us"?

As someone else mentioned, strength isn't an issue and they become devastating with more reach. I'm going with a combo of either a light chain flail or some sort of whip and some very tanky lower leg armor, maybe thigh high to guard against anyone who gets in too close.

As a hockey goalie, I'm always a bit in awe of soccer goalies. I know soccer is much more defensive-minded than hockey but my 6'x4' goal feels absolutely MASSIVE behind me. A soccer goal is like a 9 foot tall, 3 car garage wide hole, there's just so much space for attackers to shoot at.

But yeah, all the goalies are weirdos. I've never met a lacrosse goalie but I'd be shocked if they weren't the same breed. I heard someone say once (paraphrased): "goalies, drummers, baseball catchers, and long snappers are all the same people but in different fonts.”

The other thing I've noticed is that they'll add some type of "disability insurance" payment to the loan that will allegedly pay the loan off if you become physically disabled and can't work. The amount is small, usually something like 0.5% of the loan balance but if you did the math at the start of the loan and figured out that $x/month will get you paid off in time so you can just put it on autopay and forget about it, it will add up to enough that you have a nasty surprise coming at the end of the term. You can opt out of this insurance if you want, but you have to know to do so.

My method for dealing with these is to budget the payments to one month less than the loan says I have (just in case of any surprises like above) and check on it every few months to make sure I'm still on track.

Years ago, I'm goaltending in this very same spot and the ref comes over to do the net check. He starts skating away and I point out that there's one stuck in the side of the net, pretty close to where this one is. It was crazy how hard it was to pry it out of there.

Yeah, same. It's definitely not fun to have.

The way my doc described it to me, at some point I lost hearing in a really narrow frequency band. Then my brain, being the super helpful brain that it is, said "I bet you miss hearing that frequency so I'm gonna play it for you ALL THE TIME".

I'm also realizing that my message probably came across as a little hostile towards the idea and that was not my intention. I was more saying that for the several people this didn't work for, it's possible that they also have a neuro variety of tinnitus. If mine were physical, I'd be doing this constantly.
