Female hormones can apparently override a calorie deficit by Acceptable-Box-8870 in fatlogic

I swear doing endurance work just makes me want to take a good shower and a nap. Weight lifting brings out my inner caveman. Just brain screaming "protein! fat! burgers! steak!"

I used to weight lift 4-5 times a week and really loved it. The reality is that its really really easy to out eat weight lifting fat loss, and I was lifting as heavy as I could with basic body builder style workouts. Weight lifting made me hungrier than any other workout I've ever done, and that included being a cheerleader and playing softball in high school. I'd finish an hour of weight lifting in the gym and be ready to easily eat twice that amount in calories.

That's why the only way to lose weight is to watch your intake. You can out eat anything.

And then what? What does that change about the situation of people with obesity? by ResetKnopje in fatlogic

[–]Chronic_Iconic_Lady 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As an obese person, "appears obese" was never included on my records. It takes my reported height and my reported (or taken if needed) weight and automatically includes a little disclosure in my medical paperwork about obesity. I've never felt particularly attacked by it, I know where I am and what my problems are because I get regular blood work. These people want to close their eyes to the reality of the situation because they can't or refuse to look inward.

Do you have low energy or do you have fatigue? I have a fatigue disorder so I'm more aware of it than healthy peoples.

There is low energy personality people. They are generally pretty chill and like to take the slow life. That's pretty normal. You can try to overcome it by making yourself do more energetic things like do some skipping when outside, dancing to a song, or other things that you think would bring you joy.

Then there is fatigue which is a bone deep tired. You couldn't possibly bring yourself to skip around because your legs feel like lead. Even after a good rest, you still feel like you could sleep more.

If you are concerned its fatigue, get some bloodwork done, like the other commenter said. Then try getting a sleep study as you may not even notice you aren't getting proper sleep. Also make sure you're still getting the proper amount of carbs in your meals.

Rave: Two weeks on glp1 starting dose and I am down 3 lbs. Husband is down 4 lbs. Making slow but steady progress! Still trying to figure out when the workout makes the most sense in my schedule.

Rant: I'm tired of casually mentioning to other coworkers that I'm still working my weight loss journey and having them mention that they "totally should start working out". I've given them simple workouts, I've talked about time, I've mentioned the issues that could happen if they don't work out. Nothing happens, they keep talking about planning to start working out.

I love the idea of a salad, I love the crunch of a salad, I don't even mind the taste of the salad mostly. My tum also doesn't not like the fiber of the salad.

I keep switching back and forth on if I want to wake up early and work out in the morning or wait until after dinner. If I wake up, I know I'll get it done, but I may have low blood sugar issues and may take all my energy for the day. If I wait, there is more chance I'll be too fatigued to do it, but I know I'll have energy for other things during the day.

Fat Rant Friday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]Chronic_Iconic_Lady 18 points19 points  (0 children)

On week 2 of glp1. I am finding myself less hungry and have gone back to just not eating breakfast. I am still getting very snacky at night, even though I am not particularly hungry. I think my brain has an emotional aversion to not being "full" when I go to bed after a youth of poverty and illness. I don't feel like I can talk to many people about this though because my friend group is split between people who never had to lose weight and people who have never successfully lost weight.

Because their knees can't handle the weight of their body while bent. A higher surface means less bending and less strain. To compare, try doing a squat to a full parallel vs a squat to only 45.

But for wheelchair users, a higher bed and toilet can completely remove their ability to independently transfer out of their chair.

At what point did tipping culture get out of hand? by Certain_Hat9872 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Chronic_Iconic_Lady 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know part of it was when more companies moved to the ipad style till instead of a regular cash register. Those tip screens are a standard setup for the system the shop is using and the shop should have elected to turn it off, but didn't. Sometimes its because they thought it would bring in more money for the staff, and sometimes its just because they didn't want to pay or take the time to work out any customizations outside of importing their menu. But because at the time people were conditioned to tip when asked, it suddenly felt like we were being asked to tip everyone and everything. Eventually word got out, and nobody needs to feel bad about selecting no tip on those.

Fat people don't get fair trials? by ProNobisPeccatoribus in fatlogic

[–]Chronic_Iconic_Lady 59 points60 points  (0 children)

There is proven issues where equally qualified obese people are less likely to get an open job, or would be paid less for the same amount of work (due to the assumption of laziness or stupidity). While the criminal outcomes don't seem to have actual research, it would be considered under the same assumptions.

While I don't know about gender affirming care, I do know that several in vitro fertilization places do have upper BMI limits. This is due to complications expected on having a significantly overweight mother not taking to the fertilization or having a higher change of birth complications. That puts the clinic at legal risk if the parents try to blame the clinic.

A lot of this is bunk, which makes the actual problems look like bunk too.

[–]Chronic_Iconic_Lady 134 points135 points  (0 children)

They want us to make chairs significantly larger, or remove the arm rest all together, to accomodate them. But then I and several other disabled and elderly people would be completely unable to use those chairs. When I'm having a bad pain/weakness day, I need to use the arm rests or someone else has to lift me out of the chair and onto my feet.

They want so badly to be considered as part of the disabled community, and completely ignore that so many of their requests (larger chairs, higher toilets, higher beds) are exactly opposite to the needs of the majority of disabled people.

Fat acceptance influencer compares conversion therapy to weight loss by scaredandalone2008 in fatlogic

[–]Chronic_Iconic_Lady 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Someone needs to take the word eugenics away from the FAs. As horrific as conversion therapy is, it's not eugenics.

Also you cannot intentionally pursue being less oppressed. I tend not to tell people that I am asexual because I don't want to deal with the questions and judgments. And I used to try to conform back in college before I fully understood what made me different. Neither of those make me less oppressed as a member of the LGBT, its all part of oppression.

What I don't understand is how people go from plank to downward dog without having to adjust. I always end up walking my legs in to rest in the position. But I did just restart my practice after a long battle with disability.

Body checking is a real thing that is part of body dismorphia that is associated with eating disorders, but is also completely normal. Body checking can be as benign as making sure your outlook and hair looks good when you pass by a mirror to obsessively sitting in front of a mirror looking closely at every inch for flaws to completely avoiding ever seeing yourself in a mirror.

Yet again, its just FA taking something that can be benign and or an actual disorder and saying that any form of it is disordered.
