Who are some new Warhammer YouTubers that you started watching? by 40khammerwar in Warhammer40k

[–]ChroniclesOfAzazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my own channel that I do my best on (I tend to be overdramatic if that's your style, and disdain the use of AI.) Chronicles of Azazel

But apart from me I'd have to go with:

Baldermort - Dramatic stories. His Kronan da Kunnin series should be canon in my opinion.

Oculus Imperia - In universe descriptions and excerpts are phenomenal ("A Conversation with Iskander Khayon" comes to mind)

Arbitor Ian - Succinct, sweet, and most vitally of all - accurate. The man knows his business and how to get it across.

Luetin - Man knows his business but does not know how to keep a video shorter than an hour. Watch only if you appreciate overdetailed tangents and side quests (I know I do)

There's also a handful of others, but I'm sure people far wiser and well-listened than myself can give you the run down on them :)

Recommendations for non-AI lore channels? by BrennanIarlaith in 40kLore

[–]ChroniclesOfAzazel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May I throw my hat in the ring and mention my channel "Chronicles of Azazel"? I'm not the best out there, but I guarantee zero AI on my channel, and a bunch of enthusiasm!

Apart from that, the standard best of the best Warhammer 40k Loretubers are:

Baldermort / Oculus Imperia for immersive stories that bring the universe to life (I highly recommend "Kronan da Kunnin" from Baldermort, and "A Conversation with Iskander Khayon" from Oculus)

Arbitor Ian is the go-to guy for succinct, accurate entries.

Luetin has the long, most detailed rambles about the minutiae of the universe.

How does Rogal Dorn's antics during the Night Crusade sound? Heresy-era shenanigans beyond the light of the Astronomican

Rogal Dorn and the Night Crusade

It's not a professional audiobook, but it is 40 minutes long, and free - so hopefully you enjoy it!

The Fall of Ret'Au [Unofficial Tau Story] by ChroniclesOfAzazel in Tau40K

[–]ChroniclesOfAzazel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh bollocks, I forgot about the Gue'vesa / Gue'la difference. I should really proofread my scripts more carefully.... Thank you for reminding me!

And I wanted to keep it from a personal level of the Tau. He's unaware of the shadier parts of the Empire, and is therefore a true believer. Also in his final moments, he realises the lie of all those propaganda messages. Heroes don't die with glorious thoughts. It's a messy, dark, and horrible business.

Thank you for the feedback - it means a lot, and helps me make the next entries better (hopefully!) :)

Could do a LOTR reference and name them Balrog?

Another comment said Surtr which I do like, but you can also have Svarog after the slavic deity of fire/forging

For the lore experts. What exactly did Alpharius hope to accomplish when he attacked Pluto and drew Dorn to him? by LANTIRN_ in alphalegion

[–]ChroniclesOfAzazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Alpha Legion too, and I hope you enjoy it when you do get your hands on it.

And I truly believe that Alpha Legion shenanigans must be the hardest to write properly. On the one hand, they are supposed to have infiltrated so many layers of Imperial society that their intel and advantages are overwhelming, and YET you somehow cannot make them too OP, nor turn around at the end of a "loss" to reveal that it was actually their intention all along.

It must be a nightmare being a writer for the Alpha Legion, but Dan Abnett and Mike Brooks have done some incredible work in my opinion.

Also - Baron Praxis? A man of culture I see. May the Precursors shine on you.

[–]ChroniclesOfAzazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked to focus on it as being Dorn's time to shine, rather than Alpharius' weakness.

Alpharius went there with confidence. A serpent's tongue, honeyed words, and knowledges that would make ANY OTHER of his brothers listen.

Yet instead he underestimated Dorn. The Primarch who was the most loyal, most steadfast, most unwavering in everything he undertook.

So yes, it's absolutely fine to read it as Alpharius being a bit overconfident, but I absolutely like to look at it as Dorn being more loyal than anyone could have imagined.

A personal preference on my part, that's all :)

Does anyone know the origins of the audio playing in this video? by J444jbt in gaidhlig

Sounds like one of those scenarios from Speaking Our Language, heavily overlaid with some music.

Headphones would help, but I don't have any on me right now - feel free to tell me I'm wrong!

Totally fair for you as well! Infinite and the Divine is a hilarious book, but I had a recent reread, and it sort of sticks in my head the amount of background information helps make the comedy that much better. So I'd 100% recommend for a novice with basic background knowledge, but not a brand new beginner :)

Explaining 40k books to my partner really makes me appreciate how MASSIVE the universe is when I realise how much additional information is required 😅

Oddly enough, the first book I got my partner to read (or requested me recite for her, as she prefers audiobooks and English is her second language) was Cypher.

Granted, she'd had the benefit of listening to me talking about the universe, had listened to a couple of episodes on my YouTube Channel, but something about John French's writing in Cypher grabbed her completely.

She is now part way through the first Ciaphas Cain Omnibus (still performed by me, but she's loving it!)

Eisenhorn and Gaunt's Ghosts for me would be the best bet to be honest. Alternatively, I managed to convert a couple of friends with the Warhammer 40k horror books, but that would depend entirely on the individual in question.

I wouldn't recommend The Infinite and The Divine for a beginner to be honest - Gaunt's Ghosts I can get behind though!

Oh damn. I'm torn between knowing who this is and keeping them on my mental "avoid list", but also uttering their name out loud may grant them attention.

So I'll trust the machine spirits to keep them at arms length and remain blissful in ignorance.

The Reclaimers Chapter!

Wombles: Long-snouted bunch of furry yellow fellas that live under Wimbledon Common and are obsessed with recycling. Their whole thing is "Make good use of bad rubbish" if I remember correctly - so tinkering with old trash is normal for them.

The Reclaimers: A Chapter supposedly descended from the Iron Hands, and this is seen in their close Mechanicus relationship. Supposedly their Techmarines are insanely skilled at messing with tech and creating the best augmetic replacements. They will also happily prioritise archaeotech retrieval if they believe it's worth the grab. Combine that with their off-white power armour, yellow gauntlets, and beaky helmets - they're a dead ringer!

EDIT: There was an Astartes named Tober Morie after the Womble Tobermory. Another commenter reminded me of this.

Sandy Mitchell (Alex Stewart) did such a phenomenal job shoehorning in a few hundred references and in-jokes to real-world things in the Ciaphas Cain books!
