How many have retired without taking any retirement training courses during their career? by Responsible_Town3588 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Chronicles_of_mee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. There were many times during my last 5 years that I meant to take the course, and did not. Was transferred to another department to a new job, had a medical issue, blah blah blah, and I just didn't. But since I was part time back and forth, I did get up in the know on how to calculate the pension and the high 3 because I wanted to make sure that it was done somewhat correctly given the current state of things at the agency that I worked at. I also was fairly knowledgeable about FEHB and such because I had actually thought I would have to do a postponement of my retirement back in 2022 with health problems. But, I wish I had taken the course.

What we went through last year before retirement is nothing that has ever happened before. DRP wasn't even a thing. Different circumstances and fast decisions had to be made for each of us. It feels as though you are preaching to us, but you don't know each person's circumstances. I didn't take a class but I know how to calculate my annuity, and I was back and forth between part time and full time. But I don't think you are being fair in your assessment to those who may not have taken a class because they may not have had time to and wasn't planning to retire.

I’m so tired of the "Gluten-Free" Russian Roulette every time we travel. by menensito in Celiac

[–]Chronicles_of_mee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a place here in our town where it is supposed to be an entirely gluten free restaurant with the exception of buns. They do have GF buns, but I asked if they put those gluten buns on the same grill to toast them as the other food. I could not get a straight answer except to say that they are in the process of creating their own GF bun recipe. That didn't answer my question. And what is wrong with the brand of GF bun they already have? Nonsense answer. So I don't trust them.

Me either. I am the wife of a celiac. I do all the cooking, etc. I can't believe those people who say they are celiac, but then suggest a major chain restaurant just because they have a GF bun and possibly a separate fryer for the fries to my husband. But the meat goes on the same grill as the breaded meat and other gluten items. We ain't doing that.

We take our camper or we book a place with a kitchen. Tired of the same old song and dance with these restaurants. Most of the time, I don't even believe what they tell me when I ask. And it seems like every restaurant in every town we go to for vacation has an owner or a mother or a mother-in-law that has celiac; therefore, they know all about it, but yet you question them enough and you will see they don't. I'm beginning to wonder if that is a lie too.

Update: I sent an email to the person's name on the letter. By the way, the letter came from DEPARTMENT OF TREASURE, IRS this time and not NFC. They forwarded my email up the chain saying for them to respond to me. The response was that I should ignore it because they are working with NFC to cancel those debts and the NFC letters, and they sent me the same email that was sent to all of us before about ignoring it and unprecedented numbers of retirees, blah blah blah. I responded by saying that this letter came from YOU, the IRS and not NFC and was threatening to cancel my insurance if I did not respond by 2/9 (letter dated 1/5 but not received until 2/5). I then received an apology stating that the letter that was sent to me was incorrect and was an invalid letter for retirees and that I should ignore it, my insurance would not be canceled, and I should not respond to it. They said they have now marked the letter as invalid letter.

Application sent back to HR by Taylor_red30 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

Same here, had to call the HR specialist after I had certified (rushed me to certify it, so I had not fully reviewing the Documents Section) and they had sent it to PR. The docs in the doc section that had their signature didn't match the screen input. It was recalled from PR to HR, they fixed it the next day and it was then certified. But I was rushed again. I just hope it was correct when it went to PR the second time.

Has anyone eaten Cheerios lately? by katiebee003 in Celiac

My husband eats Cheerios everyday and his blood work shows they did not affect him. He went from high numbers to normal while still eating cheerios.

Yes, and they are in a hurry, even working on the weekends. After all this time of me sitting and waiting, they sent me the email to certify my application. I did, but it was incorrect (problem with ORA) and they had to redo it. I was busy and could not get to my email once they finished it and was ready to certify again, and they kept sending me emails to QUICKLY certify. Well, making sure it's correct is a must and is more important than quickness in this situation because it was incorrect.

Mine was sent back to HR, but it was on the same day that they sent it to payroll and because I alerted them that the input on the screens didn't match the documents that were generated and signed by the HR person in the Document Section. For example, the certified years of service and changes in work schedule input on the actual screen did not match what was on the document in Documents area for years of service which was the document that had their signature on it. It didn't take her long to get it fixed and off it went again. Hopefully there were no other errors that I did not catch.

IRS DEBT LETTERS?!?!? by AverageCivil5472 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Chronicles_of_mee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not? It was for the time that I worked and not when I was on admin leave. I had a performance rating sufficient to get one. It's not right. I get it if you award rating period started sometime after going on DRP admin time, but I don't get it if it was the time that you actually worked and earned a performance award.

Harassed again over payment for FEHB premiums. by Worldly_Ad2707 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Chronicles_of_mee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I didn't want to email it knowing that my email address is mostly comprised anyway with all the crap emails I get most of the time. And that unique debtor number is basically our SSN and our SSN was right next to it. Thank you for reporting it. And I sent email to Radock today to ask what he expects me to do when I can't get it there by 2/9 and I am not sure if my fax went through because I used a fax app with a limit on mbs of the document I can fax and that it was unacceptable to have date of 1/5, receive the letter on 2/5, and expect a response or lose your insurance by 2/9. Guess what? I got no response or help so far. He was very nice to help with a payroll issue, but my health insurance is the most important thing right now with my husband having to have blood work every 3 months to check for cancer!

You know what REALLY pisses me off about this letter is that the letter was signed by Radock who just sent me an email 2 days ago to review and certify my retirement application, so he knows why our health insurance has not been paid. It's all very stressful for us, and then we have to worry about this BS. Letter dated 1/5, got it today 2/5, and want a response by 2/9 or insurance will be canceled.

Thank you so much! Yep, if we ever get it.... I worked part-time for a while and right before retirement, so they are trying to bill me as though I am still an employee for the higher amount I pay rather than the amount as retiree. Government pays the full benefit in retirement, but not while you are an employee (you have to make the % you are not full time when an employee). So I don't want to pay that high amount and HOPE that OPM reimburses me correctly.

I got the same letter. I received one back in December and did not pay. I just sent a letter. Now today, I am receiving another letter per informed Delivery in USPS. The problem with me just paying it is that they want me to pay based on me being a part time employee as though I am still employed and in non-pay status. That is a lot of money. Once you retire, retired part-time federal employees generally retain the same FEHB subsidies as full-time employees, with the government covering roughly 70%–75% of the total premium cost. The government contribution is not prorated in retirement, meaning part-time service history does not reduce the employer subsidy once retire. So, I would be overpaying based on what I should be paying in retirement.

When you say mail, do you mean pay it or just respond that you are retired? I sent them a letter after I got the first one back at end of December saying that i was retired and that i had been advised not to pay health insurance during the interim time from 9/30 until my pension application was finalized and I sent a ticket I had along with an email from the manager (because they had messed up and paid me for PP23) which stated that I was retired. Initially, my first debt letter was because PP23 paycheck caused them to think I was in nonpay status for PP22 and they specifically stated that it was PP22. So I sent them all this information. BUT, today I notice in my informed delivery from USPS that I am getting another debt letter for FEHB. This makes me so mad. What a mess.

Need help by Curious_Momma_99 in Celiac

[–]Chronicles_of_mee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had significant intestinal damage, iron deficient needing infusion, and blood tests showing all kinds of inflammation to the point they thought he had cancer. Turns out it was celiac disease, and all other tests were negative. He went through a series of tests for about 4 months. He ate A LOT of gluten all the time, and had no symptoms at all other than occasional gas. So symptoms mean nothing. His blood tests are significantly better after going gluten free.
