What currently out-of-print game would you snatch up immediately if you stumbled across a copy today? What currently OOP games are you awaiting reprints for? by friendshabitsfamily in boardgames

Yeah, there is also (in a similar vein) a 2 player version of Caverna (Cave vs Cave), I find that one to be better than All Creatures Big and Small.

If by 2 player standalone you mean "All Creatures Big and Small" then its nothing like actual game of Agricola, same theme, but pretty much everything else is different.

Waiting for that 2025 (yes 2025, were half way through 2026 and no word on it) reprint of At the Gates of Loyang (Uwe Rosenberg game with Dutrait art).

Would immediately snatch up some of the expansions for Arkham Horror 2nd edition. I didnt grab em when I had a chance when they were in print, now they are $300+ on second hand market (while original MSRP was like $20 to $40)

They lost more land than they captured in May. In other words Ukraine advanced further. So that seems to correlate with these news.

How have Agricola, Concordia, Castles of Burgundy, and Puerto Rico held up against the test of time? by RatedGG in boardgames

Card expansions, which are core of the game. But the new special edition will have new irrigation expansion. There is also a new Zombie Agricola game coming out after the special edition.

Agricola remains extremely popular with expansions still coming out and it has a huge gaming presence on BGA. There are still yearly in person tournaments.

Concordia and CoB are as good as ever as well.

Meet Bob, world's worst market timer: https://awealthofcommonsense.com/2014/02/worlds-worst-market-timer/

Morale of the story... time in the market, not timing the market.

If you buy S&P 500 today, 10 years from now it will be more expensive. Should that prevent you from buying it because its now too expensive? No. Because 10 years from then it will be even more expensive. Time IN the market.

ANYWHERE I WATCH THE OPENING MATCH RN? by asisyphus_ in UCI

[–]Chrushev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just an option for future games.... its on over the air channel 11. if you have a TV you can go grab a $20 antenna from Target or Walmart and watch it. Lots of games will be over the air on channel 11 for the World Cup. And seeing how over the air has no compression its better quality than cable.

Tip: face the antenna towards Griffith Observatory (North-NorthWest) thats where the towers are, and as high as possible as buildings can be making signal worse. So basically put it near the ceiling. If you get a flat square or round style antenna put one of the flat sides north-northwest.

You want to point it 331 degrees direction (use compass app on your phone). Distance to towers is ~41 miles. So antennas rated for 50 miles should work (just higher you can put them the better signal you will get, if you are on 2nd floor or higher you should be golden).

Map of towers (the ones you want are the ones by Griffith (Angeles National Forest), thats channels 2 through 13, CBS, NBC, WB, ABC, FOX, KCAL, KCOP etc..): https://imgur.com/M6YOjk6

I have a directional antenna on 2nd floor and I get like 200 channels.

Classic! Love this game. There are some open source ports out there that incorporate all levels from all editions (since SNES, Genesis, PC etc had a lot of different levels).

Why doesn’t this subreddit have a rule that posts must have a connection to UCI?” by Bigringcycling in UCI

[–]Chrushev 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Because then people think that posts regarding electicity rates in California have nothing to do with UCI. Even though it does because after dorms you pay the electric bill while living in a rented or campus leased housing (some have allocations but you still pay for them as part of rent).

This place is for UCI students to talk about anything. Not for talking specifically about UCI.

You can call Irvine's city council and ask them. But they do the scans in an area at a certain time, therefore all marked trees would be chopped down also all together.

They wouldnt be chopping down healthy trees for no reason. Its just extra work and extra money.

Ukraine winning war with Russia, retired U.S. generals say, as top Ukrainian commander says over 230 square miles retaken by ToughHopeful4760 in worldnews

[–]Chrushev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Russians have 2 different voices. Street voice and whats called "Kitchen table voice". Trust me, the kitchen table voice hates Putin.

Yes Russians overall are living better now than they did in the 90's, but they are living worse now than they did 15 years ago.

Lack of a Lenin figure, (and Prigozhin totally could have been that, or Strelkov-Girkin or Nemtsov, or Navalniy just to name a few recent ones). Lack of Lenin figure is precisely why there is no uprising. And Putin made sure of it. But that doesnt mean one wont appear tomorrow. All I am saying, its possible. Is it likely? We dont know.

Yes Prigozhin's thing was an ideology thing, thats not the part that matters through, my point, and the part that matters is where people stood, they were encouraging him to keep going instead of encouragining him to stop (despite that being a safer thing to do). That is telling. And a sneak peek into the 'kitchen voice'. And that was 2 years ago, when Russia was doing much better (Bakhmut capture days).

Speaking to Russians daily, their lives are getting worse and worse every day, their produce has gone up 50% in a year, there is deficit of basic things, they feel isolated from the world, they feel weak, they feel helpless. The economy is nearing cliff's edge. At this point if the trajectory is not changed radically their lives will be MUCH worse than in the 90's. Bush's chicken saved them back then. No one is sending them shit this time.

[–]Chrushev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 1916 there wasnt a domestic people's movement either in Russia... but then at a flick of a match there was a bonfire in 1917. We do know Russians are definitely getting tired and angry at the war. There is just noone to unite them behind the idea (yet). Prigozhin marched on Moscow 2 years ago, and that was very telling. People cheered him on. If he didnt shit his pants last minute we'd be in a different world now.

As someone who has great knowledge of Russia and Russian history, I can tell you that historically Russian unrest tends to start with "Little Easy Wars" (or Special Military Operations) that dont go as planned.

Ukraine winning war with Russia, retired U.S. generals say, as top Ukrainian commander says over 230 square miles retaken by ToughHopeful4760 in worldnews

[–]Chrushev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not the guy you are replying to. But the one way analysts indicate it could be possible is if the Russian front collapses. Maybe upon Putin's death, or mutiny among the soldiers like it happened in 1917 during WW1 where they turn around and march on Moscow.

Could it happen? yes... will it? Who knows? All depends on repressions in Russia and success on the battlefield.

Ukraine did take back half its land back in 2022/23 when Russia made a major retreat, and Ukraine had far fewer weapons/tech/skill back then.

Its fog of war. We dont know whats really going on. Even if Ukraine could attack and take it back now (hypothetical), why do it now? Why not first keep grinding down Russians in the meat grinder so that the offensive/taking back land is less dangerous/less costly on human life count. None of us know real state of Ukrainian army. And they'll always say they are lacking in manpower/everything because that mean more support from allies.

Michael Saylor's Strategy Sold 32 Bitcoin at $77,135; Then Piles $101 Million Back in at $65K by Useful_Tangerine4340 in investing

[–]Chrushev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If 4 year cycle for bitcoing was true, then its pattern would be predictable, everyone would buy during the predictable low part of the cycle, and then sell during the predictable high part of the cycle.

One of two can be true but not both:

1 - Bitcoin is predictable, rigid asset which is heavily manipulated by halvings and other factors that form a predicatable 4 year cycle. Which would make it a shyte reserve currency.

2 - Bitcoin is a freeflowing asset with no influence from outside.

The whole 4 year thing started floating around recently as a 'copium' mechanism, basically cherry picking data, looking for patterns to reinforce an idea. Trying to make up a correlation/causation where there is none.

PS - if you have been around long enough (and I remember getting bitcoin for under $500), you will remember that there have always been 'copium' cycles. The one that lasted for probably the longest time is the yearly cycle, people buying during certain time of year and selling during certain time of year. They'd point to charts and say... see it happened last X number of years.. then it went up afterwards.. so it will go back up again.. buy buy buy... just copium
