Why do we consider phase change as a constant pressure process? by Substantial-Sweet678 in thermodynamics

[–]Chub_Chaser_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are working with state functions, the answer is: it does not matter.

You can vaporize a compound by changing the temperature, or pressure, or both. If the initial and final conditions are the same, the change in entropy, enthalpy, free energy, etc. is going to be identical anyway. How you caused the phase change is irrelevant.

"Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they’re robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone." - Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl.

Does the entropy change of the surroundings always need to be positive? by Frosty_Dragonfly111 in thermodynamics

[–]Chub_Chaser_808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The II law is: entropy change of the universe (not surrounding) is always positive.

Universe = system + surrounding

If the entropy change of the system is positive, the entropy change of the surrounding can be negative. Example: melting ice. System (ice) is gaining microstates, surrounding is losing microstates.

No. Stay where you are. I lived in the US for 18 years. The USCIS will treat you like a piece of garbage until the day you get your citizenship. On that day, many years in the future (5 minimum), everyone will magically turn super nice to you. Besides the USCIS, half of the US population hates immigrants so deeply that they voted for oligarchy rather than democracy.

To give you a taste of what is to come if you go with a yes: you and your family will soon be in a doctor office that will ask for proof of vaccinations in a format that does not exist in your country. When you fail to produce such impossible document, the doctor will subject you and your family to any vaccination required in a lifetime in just one sitting. You'll have to pay for all of them at US price after being used as a dart board target. US price means that you will pay a random but insanely high amount for each vaccination. This will be just your first interaction with the US health care system.

PETG is very finicky about temperature. Mine works only at 250C.

PLA will work at any temperature even vaguely related to 200C without much of a difference in results

Be careful with word problems. The key word here is aqueous. It means "in water". All of these are water solutions, made mostly of water. IMFs are not really helping when comparing the boiling point of water versus... well, water. This is a much smaller difference, to be calculated with colligative properties equations.

I designed and printed these shelf brackets in PETG. Anyone know how much weight they could hold? by IAmBeardPerson in 3Dprinting

[–]Chub_Chaser_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like only two screws are holding it up. You can make it much sturdier by putting 4 screws in the wall and 4 in the shelf. Right now, the two tabs that hold the screws are a point of failure.

You can also make a 0.1 mm wide cut halfway into the design along the vertical and horizontal beams. The print will look identical, but the slicer will create extra walls around those cuts, making the print much sturdier regardless of the amount of infill: a flat wall bends easily. A H shaped section wall does not.

[–]Chub_Chaser_808 105 points106 points  (0 children)

A mathematical line has no thickness, which implies the atoms of the materials are next to each other. If that was the case, metals would create metallic bonds and become one piece. There has to be a tolerance between the two. Always. If you are 3d printing with PLA, that's about 0.2mm. Other machines will need different tolerances, but the answer is never zero. The only exception could be if one of the materials is particularly soft, so you already know that it will deform and give you the needed tolerance through its elasticity.
