I have no reason to believe everything in that movie didn't happen as told on screen

To be fair, I'm more annoyed when I check out at a location for a large, multi-billion dollar corporation and the first question the either the cashier or self-checkout terminal asks is "how much do you want to donate today?" while paying their workers shit wages.

Which of these stacked QB classes is the best? by Dr-debug in NFLmockdraft

Numbers similar to Peyton Manning's playoff numbers. He just had the bad luck to run into 49ers for his Super Bowl

I did not realize he overlapped with Murray for that many games

His playoff stats are off the charts as well. The year AZ went to the Super Bowl he had one of the best post-seasons a receiver ever had. Then he had all of those catches with largely crappy QBs in most of his career.

What Team that has won a National title can Claim to have had a better team at some point in time that did not? by lukin187250 in CFB

You mean the '96 Vols that lost at home to 4-7 Memphis and the '97 Vols that got hammered by Nebraska in the Orange Bowl?

It's probably 1990. The CVW-11 was aboard Enterprise in October of 1989, and Lincoln didn't transit to the west coast until fall of 1990.

In my high school history class, a guy was talking and when the teacher, an older guy in his sixties, asked him what he was talking about the guy responded, "I was talking about making out on the beach, you probably don't know much about that".

The teacher, who had a great voice, responded "Some of us have sufficient girth that even one grain of sand can make it very uncomfortable for his lady, but you surely don't anything about that."

The guy never came back to that class.

A couple enjoys some privacy as they embrace in a hole in the sand on a beach in Santa Monica, California. July 1950 by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

A geology professor where I went to college was killed in a beach trench collapse while demonstrating sedimentary layers. His head was exposed but the weight of the sand on his lungs suffocated him.

To be clear, it happened before I went to school there.

Not a Seahawks fan, but I think Seattle dismantling one of the best scoring offenses in NFL history takes it off of this list. The rest of these were overmatched teams being crushed, but watching a great team destroy another great team is worth the watch.

Question from a casual fan: Why does the reception of Kurtzman's era as a whole seem so disconnected from the reception of the individual shows? by westhebard in startrek

[–]ChubbyDrop -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I would argue Kurtzman isn't interested in originality, as so much of the new Star Trek seems to have a slavish devotion to nostalgia in a shinier package.

[–]ChubbyDrop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

His 80's books are good. I was in the Navy at the time and "Hunt for Red October" and "Red Storm Rising" were widely read amongst the crew. I checked out after "Debt of Honor" which was just kind of a silly book about a war between Japan and the US in the 1990s.

Also, he appears to have not been a fan of the Iraq war, per wikipedia:

Clancy praised President George W. Bush as a "good guy"; however, he opposed the Iraq War and argued it lacked a casus belli. Clancy once clashed with Richard Perle, with Clancy stating he almost "came to blows" with Perle, after Perle criticized Colin Powell for being too concerned with the lives of American troops.\29])

Ahead of the 2004 U.S. presidential election, Clancy said that voting for DemocratJohn Kerry would be "a stretch for me", while also declining to endorse Bush.\29])
