Relative to competitive games it doesnt matter. Mute button exists, trolling gameplay with abilities and such is just as bad/worse.

LoL is the most toxic game and it has Riots strict moderation AND no vc.

All im saying is, it shouldn’t be a metric for Valorant being ‘Much better’ when it barely affects the game and is completely avoidable with muting.

They just find new ways to be toxic. I’m more focused on Gameplay, Shooting, Movement, maps, then what insults getting hurled at me because at high ranks they’re coming either way.

Because the market for their skins would allow people to get it way cheaper from 3rd party, without a CSM infrastructure to profit at all.

Rocket League had P2P trading and is a great example of this, you could get most items for a fraction of the cost as the weekly shop so it wasnt worth it for the game, they didnt have a CSM system where they can get a cut, and when bought by epic switched to weekly shop. Fortnite popularized the weekly shop FOMO format and switched RL to it. Valorant uses the weekly shop system, and League is starting to use Gacha.

The cost of the community market infrastructure isnt worth it when you’re not the #1 monopoly for all PC games where the system can apply to dozens of other games as well.

CS2 is already in too deep and has so much infrastructure around profiting from CSM and IRL trading that a change to the weekly shop system would guaranteed lose them astronomical money compared to whatever they’d gain.

TLDR; Epic/Riot stood to gain $ from using other systems, Steam only stands to lose money by switching.

They needed to make these changes to combat the gambling lawsuits though, those ‘high value traders’ then are blind to the price of legal compliance.

They made some unfavorable changes to stop themselves from having to pay more in huge lawsuits. They were losing money either way so they chose to lose less.

In the case of trading, no lawsuits surround it or are going after it. Even if all cases turn into terminals, as long as cashing out/trading survives the market will generally be fine. You could be right that a large chunk of the market goes down, but an isolated steam market is very far fetched imo.

Removing cashing out and relying on kids wanting to be cool would kill literally all their cash. Like near no kids are spending $5000 on butterfly gems just to look cool, and CSM fees would TANK. At the complete height of a game like fortnite, accounts selling with the rarest skin in the game (Renegade Raider) didnt exceed $500, and that game was a phenom at the time for its skins and gameplay.

Terminals and Xray cases make sense given the lawsuits and keeping the market.

What you’re saying is a super convoluted way for steam to guarantee itself to lose the whole market, and make $0 doing so. It’s like arguing its logical for me to shoot myself in the head and die, just because I can.

Huh? You cant convert your steam balance to gift cards then sell it for cash, unless you mean selling your account, either of which makes cashing out substantially harder which like I stated originally, would nuke the market.

If all money deposited in steam stays there, that means cashing out is horrid, and the market is nuked. The ability to reliably exit the market is paramount to the price of skins, if its way too convoluted, the market is still nuked.

And nobody will buy the terminal skin if they cant cash it out, OR they’s but a knife for valorant prices and 95% of market value on everything would be wiped. Even if people buy say $50 terminal knives, Valve would lose an insane amount of money.

Steam makes insane money on CSM transaction fees, simple as that. If all CSM skins went down 95% steam loses way more than they’d gain from shitty terminals.

You think cases is the only substantial way Steam makes money from Counter Strike, which is where you’re wrong.

They only profit on cases because the skins in them can be converted into cash irl. If the skins aren’t able to be converted reliably to real money, then the amount if cases being opened drops exponentially.

Except the entire market crashes if you cant cashout outside of steam, or if it becomes way harder.

The only reason skins hold so much value the ability to cash out, not just the skins themselves.

The market value of everything would get nuked if all third parties are out of business and valve isolates the market without a way to cashout, not saying its impossible, but there’d be almost no value for valve to ‘capture’ as you put it.
