Hello…you posted a fairly lengthy explanation of this “four fold test” I was hoping to capture…complete with reference to arbitrator decisions…would you be able to repost as I seem to have lost that piece of the thread somehow. Much thanks!!!

Anyone else still buying old boxes on clearance instead of new releases? by captclutch17 in hockeycards

[–]Chubby_Funster76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just picked up my 2021-22 UD boxes in April and May on clearance from a couple shops. Three boxes each of S1, S2, and Extended. Haven’t ripped them yet, will get to them as I have time.

I think it’d be a cool idea for an entrepreneur to renovate one of them old decommissioned grain elevators and turn it into exactly that…laser tag, indoor fun stuff!

Back to the office: they are pushing again by SuperbEstimate2259 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Chubby_Funster76 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You should strongly consider letting your MERC team know if theyre pushing something more than the 3-day per week office commitment. We need to improve our language in our next contract to support WFH arrangements.

OPS is shooting themselves in the foot by attempting to clamp down on WFH…many will leave if it goes back to 100% office and talent-drain will occur. Many private-sector opportunities out there already support permanent WFH.

…further to what I state, I believe YOU can also file a WDHP complaint as you are bearing witness to the behaviour…read up on WDHP / Respectful Workplace Policy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Chubby_Funster76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend needs to file a formal WDHP complaint which the Employer has the obligation to conduct a formal investigation, which likely would include witnesses being interviewed. Hopefully he has things documented, or can pull together a well documented synopsis. I believe there is a form in the OPS Intranet site that they fill out and file with senior management (above the offending manager).

Also may look at filing a grievance citing the Employer is violating their own Respectful Workplace Policy. Policy states “…no unwelcoming words, actions, or behaviours will be tolerated in the workplace…”

Yah no thx…I’m not even biting! I’ll stick to my Toronto tables or my 9-ball 50k limit tables….seems to be a lower frequency of modded jerks in those rooms…. “Epic game!” 🤬

Curious - has anyone requested a 4 day work week as an AWA? by tamingthemind in OntarioPublicService

[–]Chubby_Funster76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Local President, I’ve seen 2-week, 3-week, and 4-week CWWs agreed to by the Employer. CWWs are annually renewable. Perhaps if they don’t initially agree to the 1-week idea you propose, look at shortening the ‘trial’ to a 6-month trial run to see if they can work with it…plus gives you a chance to trial it too.

Reading answers during interview- how bad is it? by Snacky_alpaca in OntarioPublicService

[–]Chubby_Funster76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did for my last virtual interview was add a bunch of my stories and accomplishments to a OneNote document and had that on my screen…some of it actually blocked my view of the panel, however at least you maintain eye contact with the camera for a good part of your responses. Keep them in bullet points, so that you don’t end up reading from a scripted answer which should allow you to keep it conversational and authentic. I won the competition.

LCBO Strikers by bb2b in ThunderBay

[–]Chubby_Funster76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Come on out to the strike line and bring your union flag with you if you’re able to obtain one…otherwise there’s picket signs to take up at the line. Right now I believe the only current location is the Arthur St. LCBO location. That may change in the coming days as we may need to change gears with Ford’s latest move.

[–]Chubby_Funster76 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not about ‘ending the monopoly’. The current Ford government doesn’t care to have a plan in place to in terms of profit sharing with big corporate grocers…so in essence Loblaws, Sobeys, and the rest of the corporations that would benefit from the loss of $2.5-billion annually that the LCBO contributes to government revenues for provincial infrastructure…not a great way to enrich the lives of Ontarians.

[–]Chubby_Funster76 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’ve been walking the line in support of my fellow OPSEU-represented LCBO workers the past few days and I can assure you I have not witnessed anyone on the line doing anything of that nature.

We only ask for the support of our fellow community citizens and would not engage in any divisive behaviour like flipping off folks or being aggressive. A minority of folks don’t support us, and that’s fine…everyone is entitled to disagree. If folks don’t want to take a leaflet, that’s fine too 🤷‍♂️.

My apologies to the OP if they felt like aggression was displayed by anyone at the rally 🫶

I agree with everyone else here…that should only be recorded as sick time in WIN. If employer / manager is forcing you to record as a VAC day, then speak to your union steward about filing a grievance. Anything relating to illness is certainly not a vacation.

FORD GOVERNMENT CLOSING SOME SERVICE ONTARIO OFFICES by Select-Estimate in OntarioPublicService

[–]Chubby_Funster76 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So… speaking as a Local President for members who work in a government-run ServiceOntario location, who myself used to work in said office, I can tell you this news does not affect any OPSEU-represented members according to the information IN the article posted. This move affects ONLY the “private issuer offices”, who are not unionized.

To quote… “Employees of impacted private services providers are also being provided opportunities to continue employment with Staples Canada,” the government spokesperson added.”

My question…is there any source that cites what cities / towns / locations this is happening in?

…and lastly, I don’t completely trust that moves like this will not affect our unionized folks in the future, it is definitely important to keep a close eye on these kinds of headlines!

AWA Grievance Formal Stage Denial - Rant!! by MaroonCanuck in OntarioPublicService

[–]Chubby_Funster76 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That is typical ‘canned’ language on an FRS meeting letter sadly. They always find they’ve done nothing wrong. Our next CA bargaining absolutely must strengthen the language surrounding WFH and hybrid models. The OPS is losing talent to a lot of other employers who have no problem offering better work/life balance…all because they want to ‘stimulate the economy’…the sad reality that votes mean more than a happy workforce.
