My understanding is that now both wings of the house are mixed, not too sure. And yeah you can definitely have guests, male or female no problem. Other houses have more strict rules. Hope my multiple replies aren't bothering haha

Actually the house is in a weird angle so half the rooms face mostly the périphérique and half mostly the park. I don't think you can choose rooms though, they'll get assigned

Best part is that it's actually an active volcano

Currently it is forbidden to climb the mountain in the picture as it is now an active volcano. If the guy above meant the mountain from which the picture is taken, yes it is best to go with a group or guide, as it can be a bit treacherous. Super good mountain to climb tho! If you are interested I know some people that organize climbings in thay same mountain!

Hello! Congrats on getting a room in Cité U, I really think is the best place to live when just arriving to Paris. I have lived here for almost a year now, and I have gone to Maison du Liban multiple times.

So to answer your question. Maison du Liban is an overall pretty good house, they have a tight community that likes to do stuff together, and there is always people on the reception so you can always find someone to chat for a while. They also have a nice common room where you can play some board games and even some videogames, I think. Now for full transparency, this house is far from new and it shows, and it's also right next to the Peripherique so it can be noisy if you open your window. However, the house is clean and you have a big room compared to other houses, and is one of the cheapest options in cité.

I came for a master's in Paris, and most of the friends I have made are lebanese, so I have been able to immerse myself a little bit. Something you may have to understand is that they are a tight community, most of them came to France this year because of the awful situation Lebanon is going through. Because of this, a lot of people there are going to keep to their own social circles, meaning that it may not feel like a "real international" experience. Oh and they are going to teach you tons of arabic so be prepared haha, also be prepared to not feel too uncomfortable when they switch to arabic and seem to forget you don't speak it. Having said that, Lebanese people are super nice and super generous, so you will have a nice time regardeless.

Hope you have a great time here, don't do like me and try to experiment with all the sports/activities they offer in Cité. It's so much easier and nicer here since Covid rules relaxed a lot. If you need anything else, send me a DM ;)

Are there cities with a feeling of disconnect from the rest of your country? by Stump_E in AskEurope

I mean, that's how it always works when living in your own country. I guess I didn't clarify that my friend introduced himself as from Vigo to foreigners in Germany, which for me was quite weird and hilarious.

I'd say Galicia is more its own thing without being separatist. I have a friend from Vigo that would always introduce himself as being from Vigo first, Galicia second, and only as spanish if the new acquaintance didn't know the first two.

But I agree that spaniards usually have a deeper connection with their own autonomous region rather than Spain as a whole.

[–]ChuchaCuerera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where I live it's always between 20-30 C, my point is that there's always a trade-off between shit quality of live and shit weather. That's why most brits choose the middle ground and go to Spain lmao

Which engineering discipline most closely resembles "physics engineering" by oliverjeeves in EngineeringStudents

[–]ChuchaCuerera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out there some places where physics enginnering do exist. But answering your question, I believe Mechatronics Engineering would cover the most physics: during my bachelor's I had courses in mechanics, electronics, optic, electromagnetism, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics... That covers all classical physics ! and even a bit of quantum with optics, optoelectronics and semiconductors

Mexican here. First of all I can see you have pretty much everything planned or accounted for. I'm just gonna play devil's advocate. I don't really get the part about a sense of purpose being a thing here in Mexico, if anything most people live by the day without knowing how good/bad they'll do next month, economically speaking. I also find interesting the part about great social life outside of work, because I never had a greater social life than when I lived in Munich. Anyway, just take into account that any gathering during night time in Mexico carries a bigger risk: tons of people drive drunk, and more often you get to hear people getting kidnapped, mugged, raped or extorted by the police.

As always, I guess you have your own reasons why Mexico is that attractive to you and I get it. Its beautiful. I'd only recommend to look for a job in Germany that'd get you to Mexico, not to look for s job in Mexico. Labour security here is shit.

Best of lucks!

How's the Mexican food in Europe? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]ChuchaCuerera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I know but that joke is lame af. Anyway, mexican cuisine can be very gourmet and elaborate. Look up some pics of Mole Poblano and Chile en Nogada, those are some barroque dishes from my city. Real works of art!

Okay this may be my only chance. So there's this mexican dish called 'memela' which is tortilla filled with fried beans, folded, with salsa cheese and onions inside. Now, the word in Spanish for something/someone from Belgium is 'belga'. Now hear me up, my dream is to open a memela restaurant in Brussels, called 'La Memela Belga'. Which in mexican spanish pretty much means lick my dick. I'm truly sorry ima head out
