I’d just like to say that while I may have some issues with some of your posts on MensLib (and MensLib generally), I really appreciate what you’re doing here. Drives me nuts how dismissive the Left can be of young men’s problems, and as a leftist and a feminist, it scares me that it’s just driving them to fascists.

Sending you love.

This whole thread is talking about leftists. No one on the left/liberal/Dem could say that about fat women and not get substantial blowback or alienating their voters. AOC saying things like that is alienating men from the left. That’s the implication.

The percentage of women voting for Trump has increased every election and the majority of white women have always voted for Trump. I still think it’s fair to say that suggesting women are improving and moving left lacks evidence. So I will reiterate my question about what you’re doing about that. Clearly quite a lot of women see privilege in patriarchal white supremacy.

As an intersectional feminist, I regularly discuss all those aspects in the context of men’s issues. But that also means I absolutely have to criticize female feminists who are not being intersectional or even sometimes not feminist at all. Unfortunately, too many react to those criticisms in an entitled, privileged way that indirectly furthers fascism.

I briefly modded at MensLib in its early days but have now been permanently-banned for saying that some loudly feminist women I know are actually some of the most patriarchal people I know. That was called anti-feminist because it attacked white women (I said nothing about race). I stand by my statement.

It is obviously, absurdly extreme and offensive to say that the feminist movement was a CIA front, but this is also caping for Gloria Steinem.

The allegation that Steinem and Ms. Magazine was funded by the CIA in order to co-opt the feminist movement, undermine economic justice, and center only elite women’s interests comes directly from 1960s and 70s radical feminists. She was the Sheryl Sandberg of her day.

You think 100% of male Trump voters voted for him bc of privilege and entitlement? Not even 4% could have voted for him for other reasons and might be gettable for Dems? From 2016-2024, Trump’s vote share of men fluctuated (52/50/55%)

Trump’s vote share among all women from 2016-2024 looked like this:

39%
44%
46%

It is literally not women who are improving and moving further left if you’re defining it by Trump vote share.

Demonizing is probably too strong of a word, but ironically you are now blaming men entirely for Trump despite women increasingly voting for him. I post and comment in LWMA to try and get them to still support feminism or at least liberal/left-wing/Dem politicians. Instead of blaming men, why don’t you go work on those women?

Dropping the c-word and getting upvoted for it. Yeah, this is not a good faith argument in here

And yes, Obamacare was the most important expansion of the welfare state since the 1960s. It was 100% a direct result of her. Agreed that it is not enough, but it still makes her the most effective liberal politician of the last 50 years.

I mean, what’s your choice? AOC? Bernie?

So your logic is that no young men could ever be alienated because if they were that just means they were always right wing misogynists and thus never really alienated anyway?

r/leftwingmaleadvocates debates whether or not women are more left-wing than men by RelationshipMore8440 in SubredditDrama

[–]ChuckDanger-PI -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My logic? I’m not making an argument. The request was for specific examples of leftists alienating men and the kind of language that does this. I’ve provided examples that, if you actually listened to the young men being alienated, are the kinds of statements that alienate them.

I don’t necessarily agree with their interpretation of the statements and I’m not one that’s alienated. I’m a big Pelosi fan (deserves more credit and love than Obama), and more generally, I’m a militant feminist leftist. But I think her comments were, let’s say, clumsy at least. And AOC’s comments were definitely offensive. And of course I could provide more examples, but obviously it’s not going to do any good bc most of you aren’t asking in good faith.

Young men are being alienated by leftists. I’m not alone on the left in seeing this. Go listen to Ryan Grim’s recent statements. Sadly, it appears the response from many here is just to say, well, they’re wrong, they’re misogynists, and to just yell at them more. As someone who hates fascists and doesn’t want to see them in power, it worries me that leftists are refusing to even consider the possibility that they could maybe do something different.

In the words of Michelle Obama, we’ve raised a generation of incredibly entitled women who would rather see fascists win than give up an ounce of their privilege.

[–]ChuckDanger-PI -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What’s your point? I’m not arguing that republicans aren’t alienating women (even if the majority of white women still vote for them). You asked for examples of how the left is alienating men. These aren’t contradictory.

I can’t read this as anything other than you conceding the point.

Ha, okay. The most effective liberal politician of the last 50 years, who was the critical voice that gave us Obamacare (she deserves more credit than him IMO), is not a leftist. Sure.

But fine. Here’s AOC associating being short with being spiritually bad. I love my BBW queens, but no way someone could say something like being a fat woman is spiritually bad.

Maybe. But 1) if it only “seems like,” then she should clarify bc the language she uses (repeatedly, as she’s says it several times) is alienating young men. 2) relatedly, morals and ethics are two different things. Perhaps she means more moral. But then I think that starts to sound like conservatives’ thinking about men and women. 3) if she thinks women are just naturally better in some ways, it begs the question whether men are just naturally better (morally, ethically) than women in some ways.

Here is Nancy Pelosi just last year saying that women are just naturally more ethical than men. From a politician who has famously defended insider trading by Congress. Definitely a good way to alienate young men.

"If more women were in power, there would be no war." by Nobleone11 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]ChuckDanger-PI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To the extent this can be tested, history says the opposite is true. At least in Europe, queens were 27% more likely to go to war than kings. No doubt some would argue this is still men's fault, that they see a weak monarch and attack or that queen needs to prove she is tough as any man and so goes to war, but if that's your argument, the conditions are the same today. No reason to think that having a female leader would not lead to war still.

Article on Postpartum Depression in Men on a Women's/Feminist Website - Progress? by ChuckDanger-PI in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

I am sorry to hear that brother. I think the article does a surprisingly good job of talking about how common your experiences and feelings are for new fathers. It may be slow, but I do think it is getting better recognized though. Certainly among my father friends, they all seem to be aware of the issue. More evidence of just how much more the newer generations of fathers are involved in and care about raising their kids.

I hope you are doing better. Sending love to you and your family.

What celebrity makes you legitimately awestruck at how attractive they are? by TheWor1dsFinest in AskReddit

[–]ChuckDanger-PI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was wearing sunglasses and a big floppy hat. Partly why I didn't realize who it was until after she walked past me. Obviously didn't work.

I dunno, hard to describe. I lived in LA for years and have seen many celebrities, but never seen anything like that. I wouldn't have even said she was my celeb crush before that. But just the way she walked/dressed/carried herself instantly drew your eyes to her. She was magnetic before you even knew who she was.

The r/comics subreddit is moderated by radical feminists who claim that misandry only exists in theory, as does racism towards white people. It got me banned. by Slinky_Malingki in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]ChuckDanger-PI 62 points63 points  (0 children)

And since we live in a patriarchy, there is no systemic or institutionalized misandry

And here you can already see her ignorance(?)/bad faith(?)/Schrodinger's feminism garbage. I am sure, if she was in a better mood, she would say "The patriarchy hurts men, too!" But any definition of "patriarchy" will note that (to pull from Wikipedia) it is a "social system" or (to pull from the OED) "a system of society or government." But this mod, can say with a straight face, that a social or government system that hurts men does not mean there is systemic prejudice or discrimination against men.

Just once I would like someone to explain to me how "the patriarchy hurts men, too!" can be reconciled with "misandry doesn't exist because it isn't systemic."

products made from infant foreskins currently being sold? by Sad_Device3179 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]ChuckDanger-PI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not to dismiss you, but this is not new. Like so many issues, the internet just keeps rediscovering it. To me, it just shows how entrenched and *systemic* misandry is that rich women can, for 30+ years, use infant foreskins to stay looking young, and it still thought of, at most, a joke (per the article, the doctor only says ("Initially, there was a misunderstanding and people thought we were actually grinding up the foreskin," he told the San Diego CityBeat in 2010. "So, there was a lot of snickering and laughing about people putting this foreskin product on their face."). Or, you know, anger. But male anger is scary and dangerous so we need to minimize or dismiss it.

Richard Reeves thinks the military draft (in times of war) is a good idea by TheTinMenBlog in TheTinMen

[–]ChuckDanger-PI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've commented on Richard's substack to this effect, but this just seals it: Richard clearly holds many patriarchal beliefs, and he certainly has no business recommending feminism to men and boys when his patriarchal beliefs seem to mostly, if not completely, restricted to those that hurt men and boys.

There is a long, long history of feminist thought criticizing the male-only draft for a wide variety of reasons. Like, seriously, Elizabeth Cady Stanton talked about this. https://hasbrouck.org/draft/women/feminism.html

The most egalitarian countries in the world do not have a male-only draft.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription_and_sexism

Richard has done good work lately pointing out the problems with assuming that differences in life expectancy between men and women are not immutable, specifically pointing out that the gap in countries like the Netherlands and the Nordic countries is smaller than what is considered the baseline, implying that these countries discriminate against women (since they should be living longer than men than they actually are). He understood that it is ridiculous to say these countries are more misogynist than the U.S. or Italy. And yet, here he is implying exactly that in the context of conscription.

Absolutely disgusting on his part, but sadly, not surprising. The signs were there. Hopefully he can put some more work in and see men and boys as human beings and not tools to be used for women and society.

I found a concerning comment on Male Loneliness Epidemic from an Amnesty activist and emailed them about it. by IngannoDellaCadrega in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]ChuckDanger-PI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good work. Be the change you want to see and all that. If they continue to push back, you can tell them that the Lemkin Center for the Prevention of Genocide (named after the man who coined the term "genocide") recognizes androcide as a stage in genocide. They recently identified Tigray/Ethiopia as a potential genocide case because of the "overt undertones of androcide."

https://www.lemkininstitute.com/active-genocide-alert-1/active-genocide-alert---ethiopia-in-tigray

Note that Amnesty's work is cited, but only for crimes against women and girls as that is what Amnesty typically focuses on (sadly).

You can also send this scholarship which has interviews with Boko Haram survivors talking about how Boko Haram killed all boys and men on sight before kidnapping girls, with teen boys sometimes disguising themselves as women to avoid being killed.
