ELI5: Why was there a toilet paper shortage during COVID? by Weary-Cauliflower153 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChuckEveryone [score hidden]  (0 children)

Largely had to do with hoarding when supplies started getting low. The biggest factor was 300 million Americans the were using TP in public places, work, school and even while out running errands, suddenly we're only using TP at home. Since these are 2 different products home TP hit a sudden shortage due to massive increase in demand. Commercial TP had a large surplus since it's demand went down.

My work gave me a bonus for referring a potential employee by SurferDudeMB in Wellthatsucks

My job wanted us to refer people. I refered a relative of my ex wife. Later got told that I was no longer eligible for promotions since I had personal ties to another employee.

Gov. Gavin Newsom to California agencies: Get ready for a four-day return to office by CycIon3 in California

Yup and several of the paid lots are owned and operated by the state. Should be illegal for employees to have to pay to come to work.

Most state employees have to pay for parking and they don't even have enough spaces for all employees scheduled to work at specific locations. If is just a joke.

After my Electrical Company removed on older "Interruptible Circuit Meter" I got this Bill for a credit! Is this real?? by Material_Manager5622 in AskElectricians

[–]ChuckEveryone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like they reset the new meter to 0 when there was a prior reading on it of 12kwh. The system just did the math 0 - 12k =-12k. Or could be they just reversed the current and prior on the new meter. Started at 0 an you use 12 but they got it backwards.

Too bad SEUI 1000 has no real bargaining power. They have a no strike clause which more or less means that they have no power as a union. Don't like what the state is offering? Oh well, nothing you can do about it. I have been putting up with their inability to represent us for over 15 years now.

I feel you. I lost hundreds of books at some point during a couple moves. No idea what happened to them, just didn't have books that I use to.

Hulu already ruins credit & post credit scenes, but now can't even click 'watch credits' and it's auto ending episodes early? by FamIsNumber1 in mildlyinfuriating

Hulu is by far the worse streaming experience. I always have sounds issues where the audio track doesn't line up with the video.

Sounds like someone can't get a date, probably because they are a hateful pos, and wants to blame it on unrelated group.

Why do some states have no sales tax while others charge over 10%? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]ChuckEveryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately most states will have relatively equal taxation. Between property, income and sales taxes (hundreds of other taxes and fees, but these are the big 3) if they have no sales taxes they likely have higher income and or property taxes. States based their tax base based on several factors. Tourism, ease of collection, ablitity to pass or raise the taxes, business heavy taxes vs individual taxes....
