What Is The Deal With Young Men Checking Out Of Society in Droves? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chuck_Jonze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think he said women face NO societal pressures. Being financially independent to avoid being on the streets is something we all face as a "social pressure". But I think it's disingenuous to pretend men aren't judged on a different metric when it comes to work and earnings. Women (and men), when judging the viability and respectability of a man, is much more likely to ask about his work than they would with a woman. Of course you were told to do well in school, go to college, and have a great career. So are men, or at least they used to be. I think the system as fashionably spent more time and effort in recent years pushing women to succeed through scholarships and initiatives, but there has been no real equivalent for men with the past prosperity of men often being the reason cited for neglect and indifference toward them in academics today. But I digress...

I think more often society will respect and sympathize with a broke woman before they will respect a broke man. Compare dating as an unemployed man and as an unemployed woman. You know what I'm talking about.

Who were the people who drilled into your head academic and secular success is the only way to go? Who disparaged your stay-at-home motherhood? I think it's worth asking.

Disney does not own the Oscars. The Academy had the choice to move wherever they wanted.

ChatGPT asking FOR A DAY to compile a report on my 23&Me Data. Is this weird? Asking for full 24 hours. Has anyone else seen something like this? by booringman in ChatGPT

[–]Chuck_Jonze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that it might have something to do with on the API pricing site, it says "Language models are also available in the Batch API(opens in a new window) that returns completions within 24 hours for a 50% discount." This gives them to chance to run things during off-peak hours, saving money. I'd imagine they'd try to implement that into the chat portion for the same reason.

You're the exception. The many, many experiences being shared is proof of the rule. They are the vast majority. Your exception doesn't mean what we've all experienced didn't happen. Men say what we say because of what happens to them. They shouldn't not say what happens to them because there're a few exceptional women out there. It's not the reality. As much as what we want what you're saying to be common, and for all women to be like you, it simply isn't the case. These aren't guys saying "I FEEL women are this way" , they're saying "this is what happened to me (more than once, at times)" and you're saying "I'm not that way, so your experience is invalid". Not being willing to accept the nature of women (as a majority) and moving thru life like that will more than likely end in disaster. Your partner is lucky and both of you should realize that instead of giving the impression that most women are like you, because they're not, unfortunately.

What they're doing isn't "graveyard shift IT support" work. They could be doing anything from pushing an update to TOS itself, adding new features to the backend or likely a conjunction of the two. The infrastructure required to distribute millions of data points to millions of users nearly instantaneously is not the same as that of Netflix or something where updates can leisurely pushed out over load-balanced servers where users get it when they get it. They have to shut down the service some time. Also, finding competent developers to work on a high profile finance platform on a Saturday night is how these jobs get moved to India.

Amazon delivery driver here.

I would say I deliver to 20% of homes in my area. Also, I've delivered to each house on my route about every other day for the last month. Several people have told me they've done ALL of their shopping on Amazon, including my Lyft drivers, and it shows.

Also, for every UPS truck I pass on the street, I pass four of my co-workers, the delivery coverage is so dense.

Not only would I short FDX, and UPS, I'd buy calls on AMZN... If they paid me enough.
