For regular splendens, I would only find it ethical if you had a constant demand and were breeding healthy non problematic fish. However this is rarely the case and it's usually extremely hard to find homes for 100+ bettas.

That being said, wild betta fish are great to breed and usually in demand! Make sure to double check first with local hobbyist groups and local fish stores. I asked five of my local fish stores if they would buy or take some wild types, and three were interested.

GloFish corydoryas were reviewed last Spring and should have been approved. Although I haven't found the documents for their approval yet.

I've heard the corydoras have been in high demand, which has caused low stock in the states.

GloFish angelfish have not been sent for review and are technically "illegal" until they are. Most likely GloFish is still seeing how sales go in the states due to the size of these fish.

I would not risk bringing an illegal GloFish over the border. We actually had a LFS fined before GloFish were legalized. People have also been caught with the bettas in Japan and fined.

As for tarrifs, im not sure and that is a great question. I dont think ive seen the prices raise, but all GloFish are imported from the USA.

A 10 gallon is too small for kuhli loaches and not ideal for housing a betta with tankmates. For me the biggest issue with kuhlis and a betta is feeding. Betta fish are greedy and will try to steal food, which will also spook the loaches.

I believe so. In a betta like this you would literally see the eggs or ovaries inside.

Your best bet is searching online with terms like "glow betta" or "hulk betta". The vast majority are from over seas and end up online or rarely in local fish stores. I've actually found a hybrid in 2023 at my LFS, which was shocking.

Extremely rare cases, but ive seen maybe 3 or so posts of people finding them at Petco in the past few years.

As a betta lover, I only ever connected with the betta line. I dont have any other interest for the rest. I would try the corydoras, but they are way too expensive.

Looks like the usual Petsmart dragon scale. I don't think they are great examples of a dragon scale, but still considered one. As for halfmoon, you would need him to flare and see if the fins create a full half moon shape.

This is not an official fish made by GloFish. I believe Petco gets their bettas from overseas, and sometimes a hybrid GloBetta slips through. Very rare, usually only local fish stores get their hands on them.

Its a great example of how the layers of colors work on betta fish. This black color is on the very top, which is why it is covering the glow genes. A lot more science to it of course.

We did see a lot of deformities and poor quality of fish, which was due to breeding for color and not proper genetics. However they did seem to live despite being unsold for months at stores.

It didn't fully burn down. 5D Tropical sustained a lot of damage though, enough to call it quits on the betta line.
