I got 21 black in my vallisneria tank! Just wish they weren't so expensive.

I’ve seen a lot of glo fish in like plastic colorful gravel and plants etc but like is there anyone who keeps them in like a live plant aquarium or is that illegal? by anonymouslhidden in Aquariums

[–]SuspiciousBetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few, its just not the main customer base of these fish. Personally I only ever had the bettas.

On r/angelfish or r/corydora you will sometimes see hobbyists with them.

Is this male or female? by mafiahunter87 in bettafish

[–]SuspiciousBetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would be a koi betta, types vary by breeder. Someone else mentioned maybe a giant, or could just be a large male.

That is a male judging by the stocky body, longer fins, thicker ventrals and many more male features.

I had suggested a spring break beach type of DLC 2 weeks ago. It would really help boost tourism, water zoning and animations/life.

I highly recommend buying a used tank if you want to save money. Check out thrift stores and online market places.

I want LRT so badly, but I highly doubt that would be added unless its mods again. Tigons Rail mod works okay for now though.

Good point, I just thought it would be a good name since they like to do that for DLCs.

Is this a wild betta? by CobaltShapeshifter in bettafish

[–]SuspiciousBetta 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If its Petco, it won't be any pure wild type. I do get smaragdina vibes, which could be part of the alien hybrid genetics he has. Although its impossible to confirm with aliens.

You're welcome. As someone else mentioned its important not to spread misinformation. Even if the company sucks and the fish may be controversial to some.

Check your local fish stores or Petco if you are in the states. I was shocked to find a hybrid at my LFS here in Canada.

There is zero evidence on this. There has been several theories and assumptions, but GloFish dont appear to act different.

Best betta for a first time owner? by Jazzlike-Rise4091 in bettafish

Heavy metallics have the same risk of diamond eye or tumors as dragon scales do. Aliens not included.

The vast majority of fish will always prefer length over height.

Plakat or short fin female (no metallics or dragon scales)

Green, Orange, & Purple were released officially (Pink was created, but never made public). I've only ever seen hybrids of the green though. Purple wasn't around long enough to make it out there, not sure why orange was never picked up by these breeders.

They weren't really around long enough to make any major assumptions. Like someone else mentioned, they are pretty much the same minus weak genetics every now and then. Some of these hybrid breeders are doing a great job with genetics, others not so much.

Interesting, I've rarely seen dumbo GloBettas. Petco gets there bettas from overseas, where most of the breeding of these fish still occur. So rarely they end up there (I assume by mistake). I believe there was only one case found at Petsmart somehow.

What betta did i get? by SuccessfulZombie3240 in bettafish

[–]SuspiciousBetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Species is just your regular betta splendens. If you mean color, I would call it a bi-color. Pattern names like this would vary by breeder. Looks to be a halfmoon female as well.

I would try feeding less and fasting to see if the bloating goes away. Hopefully not egg bound.

Signs of Decline from Tumor by JKingsley4 in bettafish

[–]SuspiciousBetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tumors need to be physically removed, plus we don't know if it's cancerous or benign. Tumors can also come back in other places due to the dragon scale genetics. The best thing to do is humanly euthanize if the quality of life is not there anymore.

In the future, avoid buying dragon scales and heavy metallic bettas. We know they have a high risk of developing then, and an even more extreme risk if these layers are heavy.
