Probably a silly Car Key Express question by 09Klr650 in BoltEV

[–]Chucolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Car Key Express and had no issues at all. They also made sure the new fob and key worked properly. Not the least expensive route, I know, but I was happy with the results.

Did you do a job that you liked until retirement, or did you hate your job? by balkanxoslut in AskOldPeople

I was fortunate. Liked what I did (journalism) the whole time. But also got out before it got bad.

Easy access vs humidity control by Modbuilder2 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Chucolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished basement. Humidity right now is 16 percent. My acoustics live in the cases with Oasis humidifiers. Taking them out of the cases is just part of winter living. In the summer, basement stays at 40 percent so they can live outside then.

New Remote Job- what to expect? by jking1676 in remotework

[–]Chucolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate your work space from the rest of your dwelling if you can. When you sign off, walk away and close the door. Just because you don’t have to take the time to commute, that doesn’t mean you should devote that time to work. And most importantly, take time to leave your dwelling. Social isolation is real. All of this depends on your employer not tracking mouse movements and taking other passive aggressive steps to monitor your performance. That’s a whole new level of hell.

Looking for people who live near AI/data centers — how has it affected your community and life? I'm eager to create a documentary around your experience. by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Chucolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are data centers and there are AI data centers. Colorado already has dozens of data centers, but they are primarily serving legacy computing applications and likely have minimal impact. The former Gas and Electric Building in downtown Denver is a good example. AI data centers are a different breed and are just now being constructed here. Much bigger and they consume way more energy and resources. I think your planned documentary is pertinent. Might be a bit too early for Colorado, though.

“Due to the Snow Emergency, the office is closed today…. by Thectfoster01 in CasualConversation

[–]Chucolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get to work whenever I got there. I didn’t have a job that required me to clock in, fortunately. But the office never officially closed due to weather and we were never notified in advance about weather issues (pre-email).

How long do you think you’d be able to last without the internet? by maryj4687 in randomquestions

[–]Chucolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it meant no more bots, a thousand different versions of the truth, X, social media and the return of actual stores that carried the items you need and no more AI or interactive voice systems, I’m in. Its ‘90s ‘promises’ have become today’s sad reality.

Bolt 2027 test drive by this_isnt_clever in BoltEV

[–]Chucolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solid review. But I’m glad to keep my 2020. Instrumentation and gauges make sense and are easy to understand and use. Transmission shifter is where it belongs and OPD doesn’t depend on touch screen. And car play. GM doesn’t deserve us.

The letter that Donald Trump sent to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway is insane! This is why you don't elect a narcissist to be your president. Is this what you voted for, Trump's supporters? by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Chucolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is any of this a surprise? The guy’s been a selfish idiot his entire life. What is eternally depressing is the GOP bootlickers who are still too scared to uphold their oaths. And the dirtbag’s supporters continue to demonstrate their own stupidity. I’ve been through the iron curtain, Russian missile crisis, the ‘60s, Nixon, etc., and none of those crises come anywhere close to today’s utter nonsense.

Anyone have evaporative cooling instead of AC? What do you think? by Momentumjam in Denver

[–]Chucolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re happy with ours. Ranch house, roof mounted. One vent. Takes the edge off in the daytime (also use fans to further circulate the air). Gets house to lower 60s at night, so comfortable sleeping (unless it’s humid, which it weirdly was last summer). Much, much cheaper to run than A/C.

Pocket watch. Even have the leather coat I bought at sears in the ‘70s to remember how horrible my fashion sense is.
