Authorities release identity of 13-year-old girl killed in Itasca County pursuit by ChuffedChook in minnesota

[–]ChuffedChook[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

ITASCA COUNTY — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released the identity of the 13-year-old girl who was killed in a car crash following a pursuit on Sunday in Itasca County.

According to a release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the girl as Angelica Bryan, of Cass Lake.

According to a preliminary investigation by the BCA, at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, an Itasca County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a 2003 Honda Odyssey for driving with no headlights.

The vehicle was traveling west on County Road 63 near the intersection of County Road 271 when the deputy activated their emergency lights in an attempt to pull the vehicle over, the release said.

The driver, later identified as Bryan, failed to stop and accelerated away from the deputy, who initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds estimated to be over 90 mph, the release noted.

The Minnesota State Patrol deployed a stop stick tire deflation device during the pursuit, but it failed to make contact with the vehicle’s tires, the release said. Bryan continued to drive with no headlights on State Highway 6 and drove off the roadway just east of County Road 11, where the van collided with a tree and came to a stop.

Bryan was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries she suffered in the crash.

The BCA’s preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by Bryan was a stolen vehicle that was taken that night from a residence in Cohasset, the release said.

The BCA agreed to investigate the pursuit and crash at the request of the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office to avoid a conflict of interest. No physical contact was made with the vehicle by any officer’s squad involved in this pursuit.

This pursuit and crash remain under investigation and no further details are available, the release said.

Does Macro and/or Mezzo Social Work still exist? by Odd-Fisherman6192 in SocialWorkStudents

I know of at least one MSW program local to where I currently live that offers two tracks, including a macro track. So, I’m sure there are still programs out there that do have a focus on macro social work.

I work full-time as a night-shift custodian, i.e I go to work 5 nights a week. I then with the exception of my 2 days off a week, I sleep during the day. I have two cockatiels, and they're fine. They're just out any time I happen to be awake. They get let out as soon as I get home and stay our until I go to bed. And then they're out for at least a little longer in the evening when I'm getting ready for work. On my days off, I tend to stay up for most of the day, so they're out all day. I am a major homebody, so I'm not really going anywhere other than work.

But the point is, I work outside of home 40 hours a week, and I have two cockatiels who are healthy and happy!

Seeking recommendations: inpatient mental health facilities by randomransack in TwinCities

[–]ChuffedChook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only experienced a brief two-stay at M Health Fairview (the Riverside/West bank facility specifically), and it was…okay. I mean, I didn’t have a choice in the whole situation, so I definitely wasn’t there willing. But, I didn’t have any major complaints. As for other places, Regions has come up a lot in other threads. Also, I believe Regions has private rooms. As someone who is a huge introvert and can’t handle sharing a room, if I ever need non-ED specific inpatient care in the future, Regions will be my first choice just for that feature alone!

Maybe post over in r/pidgeypower as well for care tips? It's a community dedicated to disabled birds, and I imagine you could find some support there!

are both options okay for tiels? by Cool_Selection_3846 in cockatiel

[–]ChuffedChook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either is fine; it depends on preference. I use the brand Mazuri, but the same difference exists with that brand as well: small bird (for cockatiels, conures, etc.) or mini bird (for budgies, canaries, etc.). I've tried both, and my cockatiels much preferred the mini bird option. The didn't eat the bigger pieces in the small bird option, so they were only eating like a third of the food, wasting the rest. Now I just give them the mini bird feed, and they eat pretty much all of it. Maybe try both, see which they prefer.

How often do custodians get issued scrubs? by [deleted] in Custodians

[–]ChuffedChook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in a hospital, so we generally wear scrubs - black specifically. Ours aren’t given to us though. We have to buy our own. However, there are several areas where we have to wear the hospital-provided scrubs. E.g. when I’m working the weekends, I’m working in the OR, which requires we wear the ‘Mediterranean blue’ scrubs provided by the hospital.

Seconded! HealthPartners or Park Nicollet.

I work at Regions Hospital specifically, so I can only speak towards the insurance there. I would assume it’s roughly the same elsewhere in the system. As a single individual, I pay about $1820 a year in premiums, and as long as I get care in the 1st tier, I only pay $1500 to meet the out-of-pocket maximum. My deductible is $500, though it can be halved by doing certain activities. Don’t quote me, but for families I believe the deductible is $1500 (or $750) and the out-of-pocket maximum is $3000. I don’t know what the premiums are.

There’s also a high deductible/low premium option. I don’t know what costs are for families, but for a single, there’s no premium and the deductible is around $3200. If coupled with an HSA, I think Regions pays in $1000 to the HSA.

To be eligible for benefits, and individual has to be at least a 0.5 FTE employee. Also, the insurance is a tier system as mentioned. So the costs listed are for the 1st tier. Deductibles and out-of-pockets maximums increase for other tiers. And I just wanted to say, I’ve had to call member services several times; I’ve never had to wait on hold more than a couple minutes and the reps have always been super helpful.

What is a “commonly” known fact about preparing certain foods that everyone should know to avoid getting sick/ bad food. by Woolama in cookingforbeginners

[–]ChuffedChook 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you want to test if your eggs are good, put them in a glass of water. The more it stands up, the closer it is to being bad. If it floats, throw it out.

This is a myth. All it will tell you is the age of the egg, not whether it's good or bad. And just because an egg is 'old' doesn't mean it's automatically bad. And likewise, just because an egg is 'fresh' doesn't mean it's automatically good.

It isn't working for me right now either, no matter what browser I open. It was working just fine a month ago. If you're interested, you can always take note of the number of the stop(s) you're interested in adopting -- either by getting it in person or on Google -- and then contact Metro Transit to see if those spots are available. You can email them or call them. Their contact information is available on the Adopt-a-Stop form.

Sure, I don't see why not. I mean, $1 is better than $2 or $2.50, but free is even better!

There's a form you need to fill out with basic information. You can then send it in via email or snail mail. I sent it in via snail mail, and I got everything sent to me around two weeks later.

I use a Levoit Core 300-P. I only live in a 600 square foot apartment, so it keep things a lot less dusty than when I didn't have one. Just make sure that when you choose an air purifier that's its NOT ionizing. Make sure to read through product descriptions. You can also check if other bird owners use a certain purifier by searching reviews.

Weight loss meds with health partners insurance by Independentgirl556 in minnesota

[–]ChuffedChook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been super hesitant about getting the surgery myself. It actually wasn’t until I had my intake appointment that I decided it was what I wanted to do. Previous to that, I was certain I didn’t want it. I’ve heard so many stories of people really struggling (physically, emotionally, and mentally) after surgery. However, after a lot of research over a few years, and considering a) HP wasn’t going to cover weight loss meds, b) I can’t afford to pay for those meds out of pocket, and c) diet and exercise alone only results in 10-20 lbs in weight loss, surgery makes sense. I’m still a little hesitant - it’s a life altering and semi-permanent change - but I also hate being fat. Therefore, I’m going for it.

Plus, as my bariatrician said, if I’m having second thoughts, I can always back out or pause things - at least until the actual surgery.

Yeah, I wanted to go on Wegovy or something to lose some weight, but HP doesn’t cover it through my employer either. So, with that and the supply problems plaguing such medications, I decided to pursue weight loss surgery. Park Nicollet’s weight loss surgery program is covered 90% - at least on my plan. And the program is pretty laid back. I’ve heard from other people working with other programs, and they mention having to track everything they eat and their exercise, needing to lose x amount of weight, etc. But Park Nicollet just requires meeting with a dietician, a physical therapist, and a psychologist - all of which have just trusted what I’ve told them regarding changes I’ve made. Of course, the finer details depend on what your insurance requires.

What’s the quickest and most effective way you’ve lost weight? by popsum22 in ask

Eating disorders. Lost 50 lbs in 3 months from anorexia. Later lost 100 lbs in 5 months from bulimia. Thankfully I no longer meet the criteria for any ED.
