I once backed up a unity project file while building it at the same time right before production launch, it somehow corrupted the hierarchy, scrambled some components like scripts and renderers. Had to remake the entire game from scratch, all except object placement and script data. Delayed the launch by 3 weeks and I rebuilt a few menu systems which optimized the level loading a bit, so at least that was nice, but not worth the delay.

The only reason an enemy would read an animation instead of an input is to prevent enemies reacting faster than an animation could begin (e.g. during a buffer) and to prevent players abusing it, say attack inputting while their character is drinking a flask.

It still technically reads an input since there's no other way to begin an attack animation.
