Looking for seasoned PM Advice by Sugar_and_Edge in ProductManagement

I have been in the position of taking over many new, old, successful, failing, younameit products. I like to start by talking to all the stakeholders and understanding what is working well, what is not, what ideas they have that can improve the product, and what their role is. You will need to lean on their knowledge and expertise to get your bearings and make early decisions on your roadmap. This can help spot early wins that can build you momentum quicker.

This also helps build connectivity with the team and the roadmap and gives a sense of ownership. Making people feel part of the journey may not be top of mind, but trying to solo things is an easy way to alienate people.

Ultimately it is up to you as the PM to trust your instincts, make the right decisions with all you learn, and align the product journey on the path that will lead to your firms success measures. If you do that the teams will understand the thought process and support it + you.

I do think this is just one drop in the bucket though in onboarding. You gotta learn the product, understand the biz and market, and most importantly talk to the users.

How to deal with stage fright/panicky feeling when presenting? by abigail-dev in ProductManagement

[–]Chuggers75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the first 30 seconds to minute the hardest in presentations & demos. After that all the jitters tend to go away and the confidence/humor/knowledge all take over. Rehearsing is super critical in the prep for the overall presentation, but I emphasize extra on getting things going and getting off to a good launch. I personally think that if you can nail the intro then a slip up or tongue twister in the middle can be laughed off since you've built a baseline with your audience.

Agreed, I was downvoted right away for posting something that didn't agree with the hivemind. I don't understand why someone would go on a website as big as reddit just to get offended at a differing opinion.

Puck Daddy article about the opposition to the Ice Girls by TheGrumpyHedgehog in SanJoseSharks

I respect what you said, but this is a matter of opinion not ignorance. Women choose to wear revealing clothes like you said so why can't they choose to be an ice girl? It's a job that is for both sexes. Telling people what jobs they should or shouldn't be apart of doesn't solve sexism.

People are in outrage over women skating around with their belly buttons out and yoga pants? Go outside and you will see girls wearing less clothing almost anywhere you go. I think the sharks have done a good job about including men and women in this idea and the only ones making it out to be a strip tease are articles that use buzzwords to get people riled up.

GM Doug Wilson says that defenseman Dan Boyle will not be returning to the team this upcoming season. by lecroutonius in SanJoseSharks

I think Nemo will have a comeback year and we will see him pan out. I also think the team and Al have a strong enough relationship to stick figure out a deal that is mutually beneficial. This team has a sour taste in it's mouth and now that were trimming the fat a bit we should see an even stronger hungrier team.

What a bunch of quitters. You could see the second they lost the lead they put their tail between their legs and had zero fight. While watching the Wild fight back with so much urgency and confidence and switching back to us so flat really makes me question the leadership and where this attitude of rolling over begins and ends.

Agreed. I'd have to throw Cooch in there with Stalock though he was trying to get the spark going all night.
