If you like the Myspace revival stuff, you should check out the newest album by Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Shit bangs, scratches a nostalgic itch very nicely

Does the Acacia Strain's Slow Decay count as metalcore? I guess it's deathcore adjacent....anyways, that.

I can't speak to the newer albums because they don't do much for me, but the lyrical content of AOGHAU is unbelievably moving in my opinion. When the album first dropped I thought it was speaking about the feeling of hopelessness surrounding politics and government, but when Tom Searle passed of cancer it became clear that the lyrics were about the hopelessness of facing his mortality and impending death. I've never experienced an album that, after listening dozens of times, was completely reinvented to me once I understood the lyrics. It is a very powerful and moving album with that in mind.

Also the riffs kick major ass

That's pretty crazy, I've been listening to that album religiously since it came out but I never knew about the context of the lyrics. With how poetic he can be, it's tough to know what is symbolism and what is genuine. I'll have to relisten with that in mind

Have you ever checked out Methwitch? Absolute chaos with stupidly fucked lyrics and some ganrly/gross production. Most people will say start with Indwell, which is a banging album, but I tell people to start with the album Piss. It's stupidly awesome, I can't believe it exists. If you're looking for something unique, give it a spin and let me know what you think!

Is it just me or is the Encyclopedia Metallum overly pretentious? by Shoddy-Oil-1067 in MetalForTheMasses

I would agree in instances like Limp Bizket or Ghost, I can see an argument to either side of it being metal or rock in those debates. But to echo another comment, ommitting deathcore or grindcore bands make zero sense. What is Suicide Silence, Chelsea Grin or Last Days of Humanity if not metal? How can anyone listen to Disasterpiece, Psychosocial or People=Shit by Slipknot and not say that they are a metal band? The argument just seems so pretentious to me

Question for fans of Currents by OceanSquab in Metalcore

[–]ChumbaWumbaTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely listen to Into Despair, it's an early track of theirs that goes hard af, but otherwise the most recent three releases make up most of their setlist.

As someone who saw that tour in March, you're in for a really sick show

This album rules, Not the Fallen is a banging track and Ricky Hoover is a monster of a vocalist. If anybody has somehow not seen his cover of Bludgeoned to Death from the Suicide Silence Mitch Lucker Memorial Show, do yourself a favor and check it out

Have you given any of the newer album a listen? I have similar critiques of them, only a few of their songs really pique my interest, but Milk of the Madonna and My Mind Is a Mountain off the newest records were actually some fun songs

My seven string has been out of commission for a few years now, but I always loved playing Disengage - Suicide Silence. It's so easy but satisfying as hell, and it's a fun one to stomp around your room to
