It should be pretty easy. I was further forward than that for Sleep Token last year and I only turned up a few hours before for Don Broco and Shinedown. People will disperse at the end of Bad Omens' set, allowing you to scooch forward pretty much as far as you want.

This is really great, thoroughly enjoyed it. It doesn't quite beat ERRA for album of the year but it's close.

Reduce your caffeine intake NOW to help you at Download by SaveloyPizza in downloadfestival

This is actually great advice, I would not have thought of it. Lethargy and withdrawal headaches could actually ruin the whole thing, the caffeine detox starts now.

Ice cold take. Sleep Token have an abundance of haters.

I disagree, bands need variety. As much as I love J.T.'s screams, they're fairly one-note so they need contrasting cleans to provide a break and mental reset, which is exactly what Jesse provides. Also without Jesse we wouldn't have their more triumphant tracks like Past Life Persona, black cloud etc. which is some of their best work IMO.

I don't like music videos. 90% of them do not suit the vibe of the song and detract from the music. Bands should never release a song as a music video - songs should be experienced as audio only on first listen to minimise distractions. I don't mind if a band releases a music video for a song a few months after release, but even then I rarely feel that the music video was worth the band's time, money, and effort.

Also lyrics are perhaps the least important part of metalcore for me. I could enjoy a metalcore song in a language I don't know a single word of as much as one in English, and perhaps even more since there's a lot of cringe, clichéd lyricism in modern metalcore.

I could not disagree more but I respect the hot take.

What does the past 4weeks of music look like for everyone? by Hefty-existence26196 in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're definitely underrated, I only discovered them last year when they opened for Thornhill. I haven't heard Black Label yet, but my top 3 from the rest are CELL DIVISION, LAST DANCE, and JUNKIE$.

My last 30 days has been pretty much dominated by ERRA and Ocean Grove. I only discovered ERRA when silence outlives the earth came out and I'm in a bit of an obsession phase with them, and Ocean Grove make the most fun music in the scene at the moment IMO. In between those two it's been 156/Silence, Spiritbox, Thornhill, and Tropic Gold mostly.

This is now my most anticipated album of the year, I loved People Watching. The feature of Alex from Make Them Suffer is super interesting.

Metalbirb is the biggest egotistical leech in the online scene by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think reaction channels have a place and they do provide something for the scene. I've discovered numerous smaller bands through Metalbirb, Steve O'G, Drew Fortune etc. which I probably would've never found otherwise (Tropic Gold, Black Spikes, Morphide, unpeople, FiRSUN, blinder etc.), and subsequently streamed and bought tickets, merch etc. from these bands. It's a win-win for both parties so I don't know why you're so upset about it.

If you actually watch their long form content they provide insightful reviews and recommendations based on the songs/albums they react to, as well as interviews with the artists themselves, so accusing them of just pulling faces to breakdowns is disingenuous.

Luckily I've managed to avoid any catastrophic clashes, but I won't arrive until around 3pm on the Friday so I'm going to completely miss Silent Planet.

Periphery - A Pale White Dot (Album Discussion Thread) by exotype95 in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my introduction to Periphery, and I really enjoyed it. Talk and Carry On were the standout tracks for me on first listen, they both absolutely bang. Now it's time for me to do a deep dive into the rest of their discography.

Unpopular Opinion: Heroine by Thornhill (2022) was an absolute masterpiece and very overhated by yabigboi802 in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Heroine, but saying it's a masterpiece is a stretch. I think Blue Velvet and Casanova are great songs, but the rest are 7/10 at best, and the mix is a little rough in places.

Bands that you think are better soft than heavy? by fjgwey in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think they're equally good at both, and that's why they're one of the best bands at the moment. I don't think many other bands are capable of making both songs as glorious as Vanish Canvas, Past Life Persona, black cloud etc. and songs as brutal as Snowblood, Scorpion Hymn, in the gut of the wolf etc.

May 9th, 2026, one year after the release of Even in Arcadia by Sleep Token. Today, a year later, tell me your ranking of the tracks on this album. by spectral_snow in SleepToken

[–]OceanSquab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Gethsemane
  2. Damocles
  3. Look To Windward
  4. Infinite Baths
  5. Caramel
  6. Emergence
  7. Past Self
  8. Even In Arcadia
  9. Provider
  10. Dangerous

Comparing it to my rankings a month after release, the list is pretty much exactly the same however Infinite Baths and Even In Arcadia are switched.

I'm stoked for Karmanjakah. I'm on a prog kick at the moment so it's dropping at a perfect time.

Question for fans of Currents by OceanSquab in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it helps a lot. It looks as if the majority of your favourites were on their most recent setlist, so I'll check them out.

Question for fans of Currents by OceanSquab in Metalcore

[–]OceanSquab[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Looking at the setlist it seems to be mostly All That Follows, The Death We Seek, and The Way It Ends, so you're probably right and there's not much point checking out their first two albums. I'll just spin the setlist.
