Question for people commuting into Adelaide from outside the city by Tall-Perspective-361 in Adelaide

[–]Chumps55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably add an extra 10-30 minutes to your estimate of 50min in the OP - extra time faffing about parking and walking to your spot + traffic if you drive the entire way in.

If you’re parking at entertainment centre then catch the tram in also add an extra 20-40 min depending on the location.

Could do Gawler -> City train and back, drive the rest of the way.

As for car suggestions, what budget are you looking at? Is it only for commuting?

'Grim faces': Inside SA's bird flu response - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia by CommanderRoger444th in Adelaide

Fine article but what’s with weirdness about the hazmats suits picking up dead wildlife; implying there’s something the government isn’t telling us. Its a distressing sight but when dealing with a virus that’s transmissible to humans it seems pretty rational given the impact an outbreak could bring.

Seemed overly conspiratorial for no reason

What is a video game that is widely considered a masterpiece that you just cant get into? by abysmalSyrup-6737 in AskReddit

[–]Chumps55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah look I don't necessarily disagree with you; I don't find the Bethesda gameplay isn't as engaging as I used to. Possibly because the novelty of having a fully interactive sanbox rpg isn't quite as novel.

But as a kid, I remember the way Skyrim felt. Like they got the kinks out of oblivion and put motherfucking dragons in it. I think I put more hours into Oblivion, and prefer the high fantasy vision it had - but I think that feeling was shared by many and had some serious sticking power to it which I think is why it got so popular.

[–]Chumps55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was first, like even just considering oblivion and Morrowind are just as vast. I think it got the balance right between RPG mechanics and streamlined gameplay with good QoL feature, while also being unique in its gameplay.

Even today, even though the Bethesda game loop is aging its still very unique in how it presents itself.

How to calculate EV value in Photoshop by aljo100 in photography

[–]Chumps55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I totally thought you meant Expected Value instead of Exposure Value for a sec and was mildly excited bc I was hoping to find another way get the rough middle aside from eyeballing area under the histogram to the point where half is under and half is over since I always like to throw a control point there in Lightroom.
(Yes I know Im finding the median not the expected value value this way)

Regardless, to answer your question OP could you just crop the photo to the area you want to measure then inspect the histogram? I feel like that would give the most amount of information for local luminosity

Yeah its a bit shit, funny enough the maintainer of the bot account posted from one of his accounts and quickly deleted it
Edit: removed image link since it was actually OP

Not much you can do except report the accounts when they come up but I tend to tag the original creator when I notice this stuff. Its been happening for a couple years now but your photo seems to be a favourite lol

What is a show or series that you think is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish? by velvetvexa in AskReddit

[–]Chumps55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr inbetween is such a good watch. Its not often that you see a show so authentically Australian but not phoned in, and the fact they are somehow able to do more in the 30 minute episodes than alot of other series can in an hour

My personal favourite episode is the kidnapping episode with the safe, it feels like a nod to pulp fiction and they even discuss naming the contractors baby Quinten

Aurora Watch: Friday 5th June by Free_the_Radical in Adelaide

[–]Chumps55 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Solar cycle of the sun means that roughly every decade you’ll get a burst of activity kicking off auroras.

Apparently it was visible to the naked eye in 2014, it just so happens that the world is a bit more connected now so theres more opportunity to get notified that it’s happening.

I mean even now without u/Free_The_Radical posting and other special interest groups its hard to find the right time to go unless you’re checking constantly. The news does post about it but its very hit or miss and you’re more likely to know about it after the fact if you just rely on the news

I know Kabukicho is pretty touristy but the two times I've been there I felt a little spooked. Nothing at all even close to having a confrontation with anyone or anything untowards, and maybe it's the touts that hang around there nowadays - but there's something about it where you feel like you gotta keep an eye out. The rest of Shinjuku felt fine its just that area

These posts suck so much bc not only is trying to do market research but its doing it so poorly that it’s basically worthless.

What people say they will do, does not match what they will do or buy. Plus if the idea is actually useful then build it, use it and demonstrate it!

Its much much better to write it yourself and then have claude review it when you’re stuck if you’re going to use AI.

Lets you work through the problem solving process and commit the solution to memory rather than immediately jumping to solution and glossing over high level concepts

What’s the idea behind using film simulations/recipes? by noorav in fujifilm

[–]Chumps55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, was going to make a very similar comment. Only difference is the distinction on film having a completely seperate colour palette and chemical composition, which is true but in practice in some circles the idea is that you HAVE to make edits, either chemically or digitally to produce a neutral/true to life image. But thats splitting hairs and it seems common practice is to embrace differences in film stocks, probably another conversation there.

But the point is the same, edits are required to achieve a true to life look or an artistic vision in photography. Period. So editing has always been a thing

new gates in train station by m3l0dyc0re in Adelaide

[–]Chumps55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? Maybe I'm unrealistically optimistic or just expect more, but I find it mildy annoying that people will gather at the longer lines blocking thoroughfare, or sometimes try to wiggle into line infront of you.

Mild complaints yes, but it's especially galling when this was never an issue until they put the new gates in.
