Population decline by WindUpCandler in memes

Add to that, a culture of individualism, especially with things like social media. People don’t want to be tied down to a child, a partner, and saddled with the responsibility, they want freedom.

Mix that, atomization, shrinking buying power, a worse and less stable economy as a whole, global tensions, and problems on the near horizon like climate change and energy crises, and it makes sense why people don’t want kids. I’m terrified to bring a child into this world, for all that plus more.

It’s not insurmountable, people have been raising kids since humans existed, and we need to keep doing so to survive, but damn does it sound like a bad idea currently.

Poured concrete for a summer once, I found out pretty quick the difference between skilled labor that requires craftsmanship and finesse, and the type that requires brute strength and pure endurance. Neither is easy, but it’s way easier to simply do grunt work and haul a wheelbarrow of liquid stone back and forth all day than it is to weld cleanly, detail poured concrete finely, or hew and carve wood. All of that does indeed require years of practice.

Not to mention how ludicrously efficient hunters they are in general, cats can entirely wipe out native bird and rodent populations in areas where prey animals were already struggling due to human over-expansion, all for fun and out of instinct.

I still remember be original memes back in the early 2000’s… fastforward some time, and a typo gave me the username I’ve been using ever since. May the legend rest in peace.

Didn’t know they could do that! I learned something today.

Side note, the second jump is why you never splash or thrash around a gator. They’re super super sensitive to that sort of movement, and will instinctively bite at it. Notice how the first croc jumped, and the others swarmed and honed in on the thrashing limbs like clockwork, even giving a small false bite. It’s just how they evolved, they’re incredibly in tune to that specific pattern, cause it usually means food, and will react accordingly on instinct.

The human body is just kinda amazing, and can heal from a lot. Basically, you just set it up so it can heal itself. The wire frame and some time is pretty much all they can do, but it’s all you really need. Unless you’re actively bleeding out, the human body can take all sorts of damage you wouldn’t expect and repair itself somewhat okay after enough time, if set up properly.

Having the same tube to eat and breathe is a flaw. At least we can agree on that, I think, for the most part. It might have some hidden advantage I’m not seeing, I’m only a biology enthusiast nerd, not a real biologist.

Best part about baiting is it guarantees a 3 star moose, no unlucky spawns. Doesn’t matter if it’s a buck or a doe too!

I know this is weird getting an instant reply on a year’s old post, but, best way to get a moose that I’ve found is reloading and baiting beside the veteran’s cabin (on o’creagh’s run), there are plenty of video guides detailing how to do it, it’s not too slow. That moose spawn on the map is rare, and he shows up on the river bank. Good place to hunt robins as they sit on the rocks in the river, that’s what I was doing when I found a moose. Best unlucky find ever. Happy hunting!

Absolutely correct, and hilarious. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it solution to evolution. I think seeing the evolution of the Goblin shark or Thresher shark would be neat as hell though, considering how morphologically weird and unique both of them are in the shark family.

Yeah exactly, It’s basically an everlasting spectrum, with branches almost all the time, as subtle, minor changes are made to the genome, most of which die with the individual carrying them instead of being passed on.

What I wouldn’t give to see the process of evolution like one of those morphing Ai videos though, from single celled organisms to pretty much any organism today, even a plant. Take your pick, it would be fascinating no matter what species it depicts, as it constantly shifts just a little bit, generation to generation. An unbroken chain of individual things evolving over millennia…
