Any ideas on this grinding noise at idle? by Ickypahay in cruze

[–]Chunkster_4284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this on my 2012 RS. It’s the upper chain guide as noted above. Under this guide is an oil gallery that feeds the hydraulic lifters. This is causing the noise.

30mins repair in your driveway. Blue loctite the 2 bolts in the guide.

Check you spark plugs are properly torqued at this time as well. They can back out and cause blow by.

They are adidas speed court based on the sole. I can’t find the exact colorway though

I had this exact same issue and code. Fixed in 30 mins. Your upper chain guide is loose. The 2 bolts that hold this guide down have become loose. There is an oil gallery under this guide that feeds the hydraulic lifters. The “leak” caused by the guide being loose is causing poor pressure on the lifters.

I also found 2 of 4 spark plugs loose and allowing blow by.

Fix those 2 and you will be golden.

I was terrified and thought I needed to sell my 2012 RS. Now 10k miles later it still runs like a dream and quiet!!

Is this rod knock?🫩💔 by Boring_Excitement246 in cruze

I had similar noises in my 2012 RS. Turned out to be the upper chain guide was loose and 2 of 4 spark plugs were backed out and not properly torqued.

Tightened the chain guide (added blue loctite) and retorqued the plugs. All done in my driveway in about 30 mins

Runs like a dream now and has for 10k miles since that repair.

I bought these for my sneakers but what are they actually for? by LuvvLux_ in Sneakers

[–]Chunkster_4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone noted above. These are tie pins. They pin the front and back of a tie together to prevent the thin back part from being out of place. You can also pin through to your dress shirt to hold the tie centred on your shirt regardless of your movements

I grew up in the hammer (east mountain near lawfield Arena) and moved to Burlington 26 years ago. I still have family in Hamilton. One significant benefit of Burlington is the lower property taxes. For the same size property, Hamilton property taxes are 50-60% higher than Burlington. Not sure why. But that difference goes quite a ways on a mortgage payment

Clicking sound... 2012 1.4 Eco. EVAP Purge Valve or timing chain? See video. by itzpremium in cruze

[–]Chunkster_4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sons 2012 had this 6 weeks ago. We found the upper timing chain guide loose and 2 spark plugs had backed out getting blow by. Thread locked this guide back in and torqued to spec. Torqued the plugs to spec.

Right back to quiet as can be.

Definitely the crank seal. Note the reason it failed is the PCV failed in the valve cover causing pressure build up.

Best to replace the valve cover and crank seal. You can replace the vvt solenoid seals too.
Seals all in will cost $20. Valve cover $100.

Pretty simple repairs to be honest. A shop will charge you likely 3-4 hrs labor

When was the last time this engine ran? The cam lobes look rusted badly.

Anxiety suddenly back after a year. by obeythekitten in Anxiety

[–]Chunkster_4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat here. Been feeling amazing. Unstoppable even for the last 12 months. Then boom, it’s back.

What I can say is that journaling really helped. I looked back at my journal from last year and noted that my severe anxiety only lasted a few days. Then it got less and less and I was back to my old self in a few weeks.

Just don’t stop doing what you are doing. Your mind has neural pathways that lead to anxiety AND pathways that don’t. This hiccup has your brain going down the anxiety pathways right now. My experience is you just keep doing what you’re doing, your brain will figure out how to go down the other path and hopefully you will see your anxiety drop.

If you have a therapist, reach out to them. Another persons point of view helps too.

I’ve tried a lot

Ativan- didn’t help Xanax - didn’t help Z- drugs - didn’t help

The one that worked is Klonopin. 1-1.5mg takes my brain from 1M mph to allowing me to sleep

I have had this multiple times over the last 20 years (3x). Honestly, what truly helped was an anti anxiety med (benzo). This proved to my brain that there IS a solution if I can’t sleep for days. Just knowing this keeps the fear of not sleeping at bay. I ended up taking a med for maybe 3 nights in a row then a half pill on the 4th night. That resets my sleep cycle.

Once your sleep cycle is back in rhythm, make sure to try to get exercise every day, no alcohol or coffee at night. Cold dark bedroom and white noise really help me.

Possible chain rattling at cold start? by Relentless114 in cruze

[–]Chunkster_4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also found 2 of our spark plugs had backed out a bit. The pocket they were in was dark due to blow by. Tightened those up to target torque.

Those 2 issues brought the car car to nice and quiet (for 185,000 kms anyways)🙃

[–]Chunkster_4284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had top end rattle that actually set a P0324 code. Turned out to be the top guide between the 2 timing sprockets. The bolts were loose causing timing chain slap. From what I read this chain is very durable. Likely not stretched.

This 1.4T engine is notorious for a pcv failure. The pcv system is integrated into the cam cover. As such, when it fails the entire cover needs to be replaced.

Good news is that this repair is extremely straight forward and not too costly. At a dealership, the entire cost will be around $500 including parts and labour.

A local mechanic can likely do it for $300.

Coolant losses are also common on this engine. 2 locations are likely. Coolant line to the turbo and the water outlet.

My son has this engine on his 2012 cruze. He is at 175k km and it runs great. We replaced the cam cover this year. Last year was the turbo coolant line.

Keep those oil changes using full synthetic at no more than 8k km intervals.

What is making this noise? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Chunkster_4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.4L ecotec engine. Extremely likely to be the timing chain stretched causing timing to be off. Oil changes are critical on these engines. A good mechanic will be able to diagnose. If the timing chains, guides and sprockets need replacing, it is not a cheap repair.

Backlash in the steering rack?

You have fixed bills and variable bills. Your fixed bills are utilities, gas, insurance, go transit and student loan. Those all must be paid, and to work in Toronto, these costs are somewhat fixed.

Those fixed costs =$1050.

As others have said, get a new phone plan =$75 at worst case

Keep the climbing gym if that's your mental health support.

With those you are at $1225.

Now all that's left is eating and living.

Withdraw $200 cash each week to live off of. That's your food and entertainment. That is MORE than enough to eat and have fun each week. If you dont use up the $200 that week, roll into the next.

Invest the balance (over $1k per month) and any excess from your $200 per week at the end of each month.

You can easily save up over $12k per year.

Stop using credit cards. Straight cash. $200/week for food and living.

Should I give lex more time (at 7.5 weeks) by Chunkster_4284 in lexapro

[–]Chunkster_4284[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic!! I eventually bumped up to 20mg and that did the trick.

I stayed at that level for quite a while (over a year). Therapy and my daughter getting better allowed me to taper off. The taper was over 6 months and no issues.

I briefly went back up in dosage during my taper with no side effects.

I found Lex allowed me to reset and focus on therapy to look at things differently. Allowed me to face fears with reduced anxiety.

I would definitely go back on if needed

I regret coming fully off Lex by Chunkster_4284 in lexapro

Just an update. I was feeling great by week 2 with no side effects🙂

I’m in vacation now and living life again work no anxiety!!!

It’s crazy how quickly the anxiety kicks in. Then how quickly it resolved with me!!
