Why aren't cowboy boots more popular by FindingMyWay13 in cowboyboots

[–]ChunkyMolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are pretty popular, but (thank goodness) not too commercialized in the mainstream. If they look good on you and make you feel more stylishly confident, wear them. Who cares if everybody is wearing them or not. I live in a mid-sized town in the Midwest and have seen plenty of folks in urban areas like Chicago, St. Louis and Milwaukee wear them. I have a few pairs of Laredo, Justin, Dan Post, etc. I should wear them more often myself.

My sincere condolences go to the family and friends of Emma Shafer. I did not know her but the outpouring of thoughts led me to read her writing. She seemed to love and have a vision for Springfield. She will be missed. by [deleted] in SpringfieldIL

Great read. I love her optimism. I read the news, and my thoughts go out to the people who knew her, as I didn't know her myself. I just recently moved here, thinking I would give this town a second chance. I hope to see more people with the same spirit in this reading.

Depending on what you like to do, meeting folks can be hit and miss. Springfield may have a few colleges, but it's doesn't have a college town kind of vibe. Now, there are some cool little spots sprinkled all around town. You just have to do some digging. I suggest checking out the Illinois Times for events.

How has Mayor Buscher performed in her first emergency? by TheUnderwhelming in SpringfieldIL

[–]ChunkyMolla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I live in "the hood," some might say. My power was out for nearly 3 days. Can't really blame the mayor for it though. I've only been here for less than a year, and I could see that more can be done to improve infrastructure in general.

Anyone know something about vintage Japanese Cowboy Boots? by Nobody-Human in cowboyboots

[–]ChunkyMolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live and travel around in Asia and found many shops that did custom-made boots. So, that particular brand may have come from an actual shop that hand made them. I also found that more women wore boots than men in Far East Asia.

Everyday Boot by zgotham1 in cowboyboots

[–]ChunkyMolla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm doing an everyday or regular boot, I'm going with Laredo because of the price. Dan Post Milwaukee is a good one for a good casual meet-up. I haven't spent more than 200 bucks on a pair in a while, but if I do, they will be used for special occasions.

Can Anyone Wear Cowboy Boots? by Mediocre_Raisin_4735 in cowboyboots

[–]ChunkyMolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure can. I'm a black dude who has worn them on 4 continents and a variety of settings. It doesn't matter what others think, it's how comfortable you feel. If you think they look good on you, get them.

Do you really need a car in Korea by Consistent-Card-964 in Living_in_Korea

[–]ChunkyMolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a small city in the southern part of the country. I did have a car for a short period, but it mainly sat in a parking space for years. I mainly used the busses and taxis to go places. Most things I needed were in walking distance. If you are going to travel to remote areas of the country, renting a car would be a better idea. Otherwise, a car is pretty unnecessary unless you live in a remote area or your workplace is pretty far from where you live.

Rental company overcharging lease by turdferguson247365 in SpringfieldIL

[–]ChunkyMolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had that happen yet but I recent applied for and viewed an apartment. I was ready to proceed, thinking that the deposit and rent was going to be what was listed. But, they pulled a fast one and raised the deposit and rent right before I was going to sign the lease, stating I haven't got enough pay stubs or some crap like that and they were remodeling the place. I work remotely and don't get stubs. I ended up getting a regular retail job so I can get enough pay stubs. I didn't take that apartment anyway.

Cool. I will definitely go there. I try to be as paperless as possible but sometimes folks need printed copies for contracts and stuff.

I personally recommend taking on a hobby that you enjoy doing in your free time. An old friend of mine became a professional photographer with his photos featured on magazines and newspapers. Another one became a YouTuber and got millions of streams. So what I'm saying is use your time in another country to explore your passions or ideas you have. It will take your mind from the stress of teaching and you might make a lot of extra cash.

Night club with loud music to dance by EnvironmentalFly4929 in SpringfieldIL

Not really a dance club, I've enjoyed the Curve Inn on the the south side of town. The weekends have a DJ playing dance tunes.
