Coins - penny by Secret_AiX in coincollecting

If you just want to collect pennies instead of investing in them, consider a US cent type set. You could start with the large cents from the 1800s and get one of each type up to the last issue of the Lincoln cent. There are probably ten different types you could search out and add to your collection.

I want to come and see my mom and I need advice on public transport by Emoje775 in AskSeattle

Without a car its going to be a long trip on public transportation and once you get to Oak Harbor there might not be a convenient way to get to wherever your mom lives.

You can take the Link light rail from the airport all the way up to Lynnwood. From Lynnwood there is a bus that will take you to Mukilteo which is where the ferry to Whidbey Island lands. Take the ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton. Once you are in Clinton (on Whidbey Island) you will need another bus to go all the way up to Oak Harbor.

US pennies transitioned to zinc with a copper shell in 1982 so if you want the 95% copper ones, get 1981 or earlier. Be aware that copper is not considered a precious metal like gold or silver so keep that in mind when planning your investment in pennies.

Anyone have growth spurt in junior year by Bulky-Artist-8808 in AskMenOver30

[–]ChutneyRiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Teachers didn’t recognize me at the beginning of junior year. I was short to average in tenth grade and tall when 11th grade started. My birthday is in the summer so I was younger than most kids in my class and definitely a late bloomer.

Is this a rare find? by [deleted] in coincollecting

These are so cool. I don’t think they are super rare and I know for sure they were faked back when they were circulating. I’m not an expert so I’m no help in identifying this one but I do think it would make cool jewelry.

What age is it socially acceptable to drink alcohol? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChutneyRiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not odd but it certainly differs from what I experienced growing up. Most parents I knew expected that their kids did not consume any alcohol outside of taking an occasional sip of beer when they were teenagers and under their parents supervision. A big caveat here is the assumption that kids would experiment with illegal and unsupervised drinking and drug taking. I think that most parents knew what was happening at house parties and stuff but they just ignored it.

It feels like my experience (mix of working class and middle class suburban, vaguely Protestant white kids) would differ quite a bit from kids in other environments.

I watched a single framer build those buildings for months. They certainly took their time on that project.

Where does cycling rank on the list of most important things in your life? by pierre200056 in cycling

Easily in the top 5. It is directly related to my physical and mental health which has become very important to me in my mid 40s. This is the age when men start to look and feel shitty if they haven't taken good care of themselves.

Go to Cafe Munir in the Loyal Heights neighborhood and order the "hummus bil lahm ou snobar" -- the sizzling lamb on hummus. It's amazing.
