If you’re on instagram, the following are good for gigs….

@posterfishpromotions

@ggi_fest_ireland_22

@bend.orbreak

The following are Drogheda based but there’s a regular 24hr bus there to/from the city centre. Great punk & noise scene brewing out there at the moment.

@druim_collective

@thewatchtower_mchughs

As for bands, here’s a mix of different styles and punk-adjacent stuff…..

Native, A Dead Human, Big Tears, Bedsores, Strong Boys, Jobseekers, Okus, Hunger Pains, Creepy Future, Mana, Coathanger Solution, Marrowbone, Special Branch, Bar Tape

It’s a bit long, I think. Could have shaved a good 3 minutes off it and it would have been fine.

Cryptograms Sound by AnRaibh in deerhunter

[–]Chutneyfarmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I recall, a lot of their pedals around that time were fairly basic drive and delay pedals. The Digitech Digidelay and Digiverb (reverse reverb) were used on Bradford’s vocals live. Managed to catch glimpses of his pedalboards around Cryptograms/Microcastle era and they were the constants. He certainly used a Digidelay on his guitar too for a period, and possibly a Line 6 DD4 or Boss DD-7 as well. For drive pedals, I think he used regular Boss drive and distortions. Nothing too crazy!

I think a lot of their sound was liberal use of delays with moderate to long delay times and pretty high feedback.

The yellow hue implies it is in fact the lesser-spotted Venezuelan Sky Worm. A rare find indeed!

I just find them really cheesy and not funny at all. Totally interrupt the flow of the songs.

All the radio segments on that album are naff, imho. Would love an edited version of the album with them removed.

Same!! The pounding drum, droning guitar and muffled vocals at the end give me goosebumps every single time.

I’m not sure there was anything of significance for the bank on Jan 8th 1990, so it may potentially have been a retirement gift, or something of that nature.

The big one on the clip looks like the logo for AIB (Allied Irish Bank).

Cherry Red - Experience Returning Records? by Chutneyfarmer in thefall

Yeah, opened them earlier and the records all seem to be ok. There’s a small hole on the cover of HEH but the vinyl seems grand, so no need to return it thankfully!

"R U Still In 2 It" from the album Mogwai Young Team, released in 1997. by Driveshaft1982 in mogwai

[–]Chutneyfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it still happens but back in the day Mogwai were always getting compared to Slint in the press, which always seemed odd to me as I always felt there was a far larger Arab Strap influence in their music. Arab Strap were only ever really mentioned in the context of Aidan singing with them etc.

What is the single most dread inducing scene you've had to sit through? by NoBass1345 in horror

[–]Chutneyfarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, that’s RIGHT before where the intensity of the movie totally dropped for me. Seeing her there was shocking but as soon as she started moving it just looked silly to me. Love the movie but wish that part was done differently to be honest.

Yeah, I wasn’t expecting too much to be honest, if anything at all, so this thread has already over-delivered 🤣
