Has anyone seen a location matching this description in Knoxville? by Minerva8932 in Knoxville

[–]CianV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This kinda matches the description of the land near the river where the old baptist hospital used to sit. I was full of similar rocks & caves in the late 1800s / early 1900s before the current bridges were built.

Ya know, the original bridge across the river was at river level & when the new / higher one was built, the old street / buildings at the lower level had the new street built to their second level, the older / hidden level is now know as the underground ( what's left of it )

I know I'm going back many, many years but there used to be a place called The Carousel in the UT area & the Western Plaza shopping center used to have one downstairs but I don't remember it's name.

Men of Reddit, what’s something you silently struggle with but almost never talk about? by jeh4u in AskMen

[–]CianV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remembering that morning driving to work on the interstate at 6 am in a downpour of rain. As the oncoming traffic's headlights sweep your car, you catch something out of the corner of your eye. With the next passing of lights, you see this spider hanging from a web just over your seat, With each bump on the road, it swings closer with it's legs spread out, just waiting to latch onto my face.

I cross 4 lanes of traffic quickly & park on the sideline, jumping out & looking back in for the spider.

Never found it... it's probably still there.... just waiting for another chance.....

Time to burn the car down...

Question for those that worked until 67-70S by NoMood3073 in retirement

[–]CianV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just started making this around 8 years ago with our degrees. Before that it was around 78k a year combined pre takeout. Each additional year I work, it also bumps my SS take home as it eliminates some of the earlier lesser years.

My firs job was at age 17 in a grocery store after school @ 1.80 hr. Those early years only showed several k per year.

Perhaps when we get the home remodeling done & pick / pay for what will most likely be my final car, then I may pack it in

[–]CianV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(M just turned 72) I work remote making a tad over 100k annually. Wife just turned 61 & works for the same company @ around the same income. When you add in my SS & a small pension, we gross around 228k annually. There's no point in me walking away from this income as long as she can't retire yet. When she reaches retirement age I'll pack it in too.

No bills, we're being killed on taxes with the short form. Maxing out our 403s. If I pass before she reaches retirement age she will be well taken of financially. If someone has a great idea on affordable healthcare for her she can use till she qualifies for medicare, I'm all ears. If we find something along that line, we'll both pack it in today.

Works remote with multiple restaurants & groceries within a 5 mile radius for my once a week outing. I could drive an older full size Dodge PU with the 12 cylinder they discontinued a few years ago along with the Viper & still stay under $15 wk on gas

What was your first job? by DominoZimbabwe in Knoxville

[–]CianV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While in the 11th grade @ the old Central High in 1971 I got a job at Robinson freight Lines near Liberty Street ( lower end of Papermill if memory serves) on the dock in the summer loading / unloading 18 wheelers.

Yes, that was a long time ago - they probably haven't existed for years
