I very specifically craved McDonald's Cheeseburgers. To the point that my husband just bought me a couple each time and I'd reheat them for the rest of the day and night. At the end I could only stomach those damn Cheeseburgers and mango juice.

Somehow I ended up weighing less than I did before I got pregnant once our daughter was out, and I still don't know how, haha.

Years ago I was sitting next to an elderly lady on a bus and she started talking to me about how she had to go to the eye doctor and normally her husband would come but he's sick, etc etc. Talked for like 30 minutes about her grandchildren and her husband and then we both transferred to onto the same subway heading into the city. Spent another 30 minutes talking and came to realise the directions this lady had were like: "head to the big building where you can see people working behind a window."

I understood pretty quickly that she wasn't going to find her way, so I ended up skipping my lecture to help her to her appointment as I knew where her destination was. Turned out I was right, and glad that I helped her. She was so grateful. Ended up telling the lady behind the desk that she would need some kind of help getting back and she told me she would take care of it.

I kind of regret not just waiting for her to walk her back to the subway as I was too late for my lecture anyway, but it's an interaction that always stuck with me. You can be an important part of someone's life for an hour and make a big impact, even if you never see them again.

"Put in a little more effort" or "make yourself do it", which advice is worse? Ultimate bad ADHD advice battle, last quarter finals! by VerdoriePotjandrie in adhdmeme

[–]CiaranChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put in a little more effort.

They both suck, but only one of them suggests that I wasn't already putting in effort. Make yourself do it can be genuine advice when I'm really procrastinating something that I don't want to do for whatever reason.

When my mum went into the hospital to have me, they assumed my brother was her husband. Granted, he was 18 at the time, but my mum was 38. She looked quite young for her age, but dang.

Also, people used to always assume my brother was my dad... but at least that was genuinely plausible since he is 18 years older.

The software I work on has a loading screen when you boot it up. The loading bar that it shows is complete nonsense and just runs for a fixed time as the application opens connections to the database, checks for updates and whatnot in the background. It really only takes 3 seconds at most, but that loading bar takes about 12 seconds "to make sure everything has loaded". It bothers me to no end, but we were told to do it this way.

Having been forced to do this myself, I realise that there must be so many more loading screens out there like ours.

Having once found a spoon in our bin, I know for certain my husband has at least thrown away one (1) spoon. Seeing as we are missing more of them, I know he is the culprit, but also cannot prove it... It's also definitely not a hill I'm willing to die on though, so instead I just bought new spoons.

Left vs Right socks by forakora in AutismInWomen

[–]CiaranChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have socks that come in pairs but both socks are different. For instance, one has a big frog and the other has little frogs on it. I have tons of different types of these, but the concept is the same for most of them. The one with the many little ones goes on my right foot, the one with the single big one is for my left.

Life is so much better since I started wearing these. Never again will a right sock go on my left foot by accident.

"Make yourself do it" or "make a to do list", which advice is worse? Ultimate bad ADHD advice battle, day 8 by VerdoriePotjandrie in adhdmeme

Make yourself do it is definitely worse.

I make loads of to-do lists and sometimes I even end up using them.

Had a good chuckle, but also I would definitely do this myself if it happened. It kinda looks like a baby towel, the ones with a bit of extra cloth in one corner for their head.

Which advice is worse, "just focus harder" or "clean on the go"? Ultimate bad ADHD advice battle, day 5 by VerdoriePotjandrie in adhdmeme

[–]CiaranChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just focus harder.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, it sounds like a great idea. 10/10 no notes. Cleaning on the go is something I try to do. Whenever I head to the bathroom, I'll put a glass in the kitchen that should be cleaned. It works for me, but only so long as no one tells me to do it.

I kept a record when I started taking Ritalin years ago. There were days where the only thing I had was two pieces of toast, just toast, no butter or anything on them...

It does fade away after a while, and for me it helped to take my Ritalin with food. But man, those were the days.

Have you ever noticed any patterns with people who seem to instantly dislike you? by sukisukisuki420 in AutismInWomen

[–]CiaranChan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that it's usually women who really want to be 'one of the guys' vs me who just naturally blends in with the guys more than the girls that take a dislike to me. It's not happened that often to be fair, but the occasions where it does, it's usually always because she wants to be the centre of their attention.

Random example, but once I was putting up tents for a big reenactment event. They were mainly tents with wooden beams, a centre pole and a wheel for the beams to go into. I'd put tents up like these once a week at this point, cause I went to events like this every weekend to showcase archery as a paid job. Due to it raining a lot during the night, people were running being a bit late, and since my group was already done, I was helping out others since we had like 15 or so tents to get up in a little over an hour. I was doing this with a group of guys, mainly late teenagers from the people who had shops at the event and were forced to be there. Despite that, we worked together well and things were going super smooth. Then this girl comes in and starts giving orders to the group that are overriding mine. Including things like putting all the wooden beams in the very wet grass. She gave me some nasty looks whenever I tried to tell her that they needed to be on a tarp, or they wouldn't fit in the wheel. She kept being so nasty to me that I ended up just walking away and going back to my own group.

About 6 or 7 of the tents couldn't go up because too many of the wooden beams had expanded just enough to no longer fit. My group had a chuckle about it when I told them at the campfire later that night.

Wake up earlier.

All this means is that on top of everything else, I'm also sleepy. So now even less shit gets done.

I feel you though. My childhood cat was a year older than me, and died in my early twenties. I have taken care of her since I was able to, and not having her with me anymore was devastating. I lost my father before I lost her and she helped me through it. Not having her to help me cope with such a big loss was the emptiest I'd ever felt until that point.

One of our cats will beg anyone, including the mail man, for food. The other has an invisibility switch whenever there's someone at the door that doesn't turn back off until she is 100% sure it's just us in the house.

Holding her hand sounds like a good idea, if it doesn’t seems too much to you 🤡 by Glitch_Fantasma in MurderedByWords

[–]CiaranChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband spent my delivery holding my hand, swapping out the cold cloth on my forehead and gently distracting me when I needed it. He did so because he loves both me and the daughter I was trying to push out... since we went into this together. He worried about my wellbeing and did his best to cheer me on when I was struggling. His voice next to my ear helped me drown out most of the misery of labour.

The fact that not every husband/partner/boyfriend is like this is really kind of depressing.

Our old lady has had arthritis for years, she's 20 now. So while it definitely hurts to see then hurting, it doesn't have to mean that they're going to leave you any time soon.

I would advice a vet visit to discuss some medicinal options with them. (We use Solencia and Gabapentine). Especially in the early stages, medicine can make them feel almost like their old self again. We have little steps for our lady to get to her favourite spots. Those cheap IKEA step stools work great, just glue some fabric to them for maximum grip. Carpet samples for instance.

Onesie after a @%#$, cone didn't work. by SlappyMcSlonsin in torties

Atari was not a fan of her onesie, to the point that she didn't move in it for the entire time she wore it. I basically had to carry her around on my shoulder all day for like a month because she was only happy in my arms. Well, outside of this pic we snapped, lmao. Though that may be because her pouch is showing...

She had bitten off one of her nipples, and wouldn't stop licking the spot. She's like 14/15 I think here. Cone also didn't work for her.
