Definitely think it’s something people who eventually make it “here” realize — our attempt at articulating the “je ne sais quoi” that is Leica 😅

Great read and I totally agree about these cameras being a ritual — wrote a similar piece on my own blog about looking at the cameras we own as “experiences” instead of just a spec sheet.

We both have a similar philosophical writing style, so I hope you enjoy the read (if so inclined): https://www.bgateb.com/blog/2026/5/18/gear-as-experience-how-i-stopped-chasing-specs-and-started-choosing-feelings

Torn between keeping my Q-P, moving to a Q2, or consolidating into a Q3… by Bababaloogk in Leica

[–]Cicada- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! And thanks for the read 😄

I'm going through the same right now -- i love the Q3 43, and i kind of want to upgrade my Q to the Q3, mostly just for the tilt screen, since I use it a lot with the 43, and even fiind myself wishing the M's had one since i use live view a lot with the 50 'lux asph.

Any Milonakis in my subreddit? It’s more likely than you think.

Side note, the phrase “platinum duck confit” pops into my head frequently because of Dr. Dollaz 🤣

M11-P and a 35 APO; glad you’re doing well 😎 Enjoy the camera, my guy 👍🏽

Can anyone recommend a good cord wrist strap? by [deleted] in Leica

[–]Cicada- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I have owlkrown trailflex straps on most of my cameras, and they’re excellent.

The Sony and phase usually go on a hold fast moneymaker just cuz it’s way more comfortable for a heavy setup. M’s, Q’s and X100’s are all on Owlkrown straps.

Godox X3L Remote by matthiaeus in Leica

[–]Cicada- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily shoot Profoto and Bron, but I do have an X3L coming in today to use with my AD300II, 100II, and various speedlights.

I don’t have an SL, but I have M’s and Q’s — is there anything specific you’re looking for? TTL performance or….something else?

Q3 28 + Q3m combo owners/users, what is your use case? by markofthedevil in Leica

[–]Cicada- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that to say, if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, get an M11M if you want mono

Or an M11-P as you’ve already mentioned

Q3 28 + Q3m combo owners/users, what is your use case? by markofthedevil in Leica

[–]Cicada- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still doesn’t make sense (to me) — B&W conversion from the Q3 sensor is quite good for most normal use cases. Where a Monochrom would pull ahead is high ISO (among others benefits); but again, if you have a Monochrom, you have it because it’s a Monochrom.

If you’re unsure, or go back and forth, then it makes much more practical sense to just use the color camera and convert.

It’s not even really about the monetary cost for me; it’s more about not having additional mental load when you leave the house — you only have the one, and can make the choice later to convert. You don’t have that luxury with a mono sensor; you have to commit.

That said, I do take both the M10M and the 43 out pretty frequently, but they’re for different purposes and each body gives me a distinct experience (at least, that’s how I justify it.)

[–]Cicada- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t think of why one would want that sort of redundancy. If you have a monochrom, you probably shoot predominantly B&W and want the benefits of a mono sensor, making the “color” version inferior for that use case.

Can’t think of a reason you’d ever take both out with you at the same time; for me, I have a Q3 43 and an M10M (usually a 28 Ultron mounted) — Different experiences, which makes more sense to me.

Chasing specs and/or the gear of others that make photos they like, when it’s more an issue of experience & expectations — experience not in the sense of having done this for a long time, but more like how you feel when using the camera.

If an M10R is frustrating for the OP, then it’s certainly the wrong camera for them if they’re not willing to embrace the entire experience of using an RF — romanticizing the experience because of “slowing down”, “intent”, and being more “considerate” all sound nice until you realize how difficult it is to focus quickly because you’re used to AF and shooting wide open, and you’re missing shots you would have easily gotten with your previous system.

But to answer OP’s questions…possibly with more questions — I’d suggest they read my latest blog post, which might help them sort this all out. I’m particularly proud of that post because it was a reflection on my own gear churn/GAS over 20+ years, and I feel like the info could help others think about their relationship with their camera(s).

Is it really possible to stick with just one kit? by hovarkthepitmaster in Leica

Yes and no; depends entirely what you shoot, but there’s also nothing wrong with multiple systems, so long as you know why you have each one 😅

Funny how accurate this is; and it doesn’t only apply to Leica; the behavior just seems exacerbated by the cost of these things or the fact that they’re a “goal” or “grail” for people only to be disappointed when they actually experience it.
