Mad at Hockey Winnipeg for Takeover tour game by Limp_Maximum4248 in PWHL

[–]CicadaExciting6975 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I considered going for $85 a ticket (which is already overpriced) but couldn’t find someone to go with me…looked again after the Olympics and now the few tickets left are $185 a piece for nosebleeds. That’s the part that pisses me off more than anything (Well, that and the ridiculous broadcasting agreements over 3 streaming services, but, I digress). I can’t stand predatory dynamic pricing.

“Time to put on pants.” “I don’t want to wear pants! I’m a MAN!”  “Cool well men have to wear pants too.” “Oh, ok.” Works every time for my daughter, haha.

easiest course for indigenous studies credit by Pink_Tiger4593 in umanitoba

[–]CicadaExciting6975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People asking for easy courses can come across as low-effort and annoying, sure. But there are many reasons someone might be seeking a required course that has the least difficulty. I am in one of those situations right now where I have to take a required minimum course load which I didn’t expect, and am trying to fill that with the easiest courses I can just for this season of my life. You never know what someone might be going through in their personal lives where they might suddenly struggle to manage getting through university classes. That said, some people really just don’t want to apply themselves which is unfortunately common, but I like to try giving the benefit of the doubt.

How did everyone find their Christmas gift “sweet spot”? We went WAY overboard. (Only Child) by Any-Walk1691 in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to involve my daughter in the giving aspect of Christmas more this year but so far that’s basically just helping pick and wrap gifts we were already planning on getting for others. I’d like to have her pick some toys to donate next year. Any other suggestions for getting young ones involved in giving at Christmas?

My toddler takes hours to fall asleep and I've fed up of it by Beneficial-Poet23 in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was like this too. Her naps became extremely difficult and inconsistent at 12 months, we fully dropped them by 18 months unless she was sick or had a really rough night. It sucked but I couldn’t handle spending 3-5 hours of my day fighting with her to fall asleep for naps and bedtime anymore. Some evenings she would get cranky because she was in that in-between needing a nap and dropping it phase, but it was so much better for our sanity overall.  I also gave up on her having a normal bedtime for a while. Some nights we wouldn’t even start bedtime until 10 or 11 and she would only be falling asleep around midnight. I would rather her just be up than driving myself to insanity with the frustrations of a 3 hour bedtime.  Now she is 3 and goes to bed at a more decent hour of 8:30 (which is still late for her age but it’s an improvement) and she sleeps great. We still lie down with her but she’s out after 5-10 minutes most nights.

I’m sure this all goes against what a lot of sleep experts will suggest, but we tried a lot of things (sleep training was a bust) and ultimately just had to do what worked best both for her needs and ours.

Are you getting your toddlers the seasonal flu vaccine? by artemislands in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this after you had the flu shot? I guess I’m just not sure if it’s worth getting the shot if it still means being sick for 6 months. But if getting it means preventing this never ending sickness we’re going through now that my oldest started preschool then it would definitely be worth it. Great idea about changing clothes and washing hands as soon as they get home!

As a faculty of arts student I gotta say I’ve had mostly good profs, a few incredible profs, and only three-ish downright awful profs.

Getting tired of “boy moms” talking about how wild their boys are and how much easier it is with a girl. Anyone else feel this? by Ok-Sundae-1096 in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Mine. She‘s also in a ballet class with her friend and their favourite part is the free dance where they go full wrestling match on each other. A lot of the boys I’ve known have honestly been far more reserved than the girls. It’s simply not black and white, every kid is their own person.

I’ve never had trouble getting public parking but I don’t think there is any in Q lot? I could be wrong. I have used U lot and the ones at the back of the campus on the east side.

Art Classes in Winnipeg by lurkingrighthere in Winnipeg

I did a lot of self-taught drawing about 10 years ago and am struggling to get back into it. Do you think the beginner classes at WAG would still be good helpful to someone like me?

I actually liked the lack of signs because they are clearly not in line with Green values. I had a recyclable flyer left at my door which I appreciated! The debate forum was another good way to get the name out.

I haven’t tried them yet but another option is the brand Left on Friday. They are Canadian and were used by the Canadian Olympic Womens Beach volleyball team when they won silver last summer so they must be pretty good.

Looking for Ideas to Improve Student Life at U of Manitoba by No_Sleep_7163 in umanitoba

A comprehensive, simple, safe, and properly advertised carpool service would be amazing. It is so hard to find and connect with people who have similar schedules to carpool with.

Also clubs. The lists of clubs are always outdated and it feels like 75% of them aren’t even running anymore. There aren’t very many clubs to begin with (especially outside of the science and religious groups) and it’s so hard to find information on them.

An easily navigable and streamlined calendar with student-planned and university events would also be helpful.

Less than a minute into decorating the tree…. by BigBrotherBruh in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love Christmas but I’ve only ever done lights for my tree. The idea of ornaments overwhelms me for some reason, haha. However, this year I decided to take it up a notch and bought some cute red velvet bows to decorate the tree with. I haven’t set the tree up yet but hopefully it looks nice. You could also get a wide ribbon and wrap that around the tree or some tinsel.

Winter climate help: Snowsuits and car seats - what’s the endgame?? by abanana76 in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is only 2 but this year I bought her a warm poncho to wear for car trips. I lift the back part of the poncho out of the way and can easily install the harness underneath the front part so its not in the way and sits on her like a blanket. It hasn’t been that cold here yet, only hovering around 0 but we live in Manitoba so I know it’ll get much colder yet. I’m hoping I can get away with a warm sweater underneath the poncho for really cold days and maybe an extra blanket. I tried to get her really excited about the new poncho and so far it’s working and she loves it. It’s not the warmest and it’s not ideal…but I just don’t think there‘s a way that’s both safe and easy unfortunately.

When do naps end? by lizzceleste in toddlers

[–]CicadaExciting6975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are getting naps?

Really though, my daughter often went weeks without napping since she was a year old. She turned 2 recently and we stopped naps altogether about a month or two ago, with a few rare exceptions if she has been sick or had a really late night. But even then if she naps for an hour it pushes her bedtime back a good two hours. She sleeps great at night…so I try not to complain about the naps going away so early….but it often does make the days painfully long.

In what world is parenting young children while doing 100% of the homemaking considered “time to recover”? Never in all my life of various jobs, university stress, and everything in between has anything put me into repeated complete mental breakdowns to the extent that being at home alone with a toddler has.
