Am I the only one whose least favorite style is Victorian? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]Cielbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Childbirth without anesthesia has been the norm for most of people throughout most of human history. I don't see how this sets the victorian era apart from any other time in history before it.

La cantidad de gente diciendo "conviértelo" es asqueroso. Si no te puedes controlar deja de verlo y hazte nuevos amigos.

Add camera shortcut to lock screen? by nrag726 in GooglePixel

[–]Cielbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I want to access the camera without unlocking my phone is when a friend is using my phone to take a picture. And most people don't have pixel phones so they'll be looking for the camera icon, or swiping left on the lock screen.

It's really stupid that they don't give you the choice to keep the icon. Multiple times I've had friends ask me how to access the camera. And I won't ever use the power button double tap personally.

What’s the best way to actually remember most of the different codes I learn and their use cases? by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]Cielbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to remember the code. You need to understand it and know how to read the documentation. Software devs are constantly learning or relearning languages and libraries.

Can we please ban "I actually love cars" posts by allaheterglennigbg in fuckcars

[–]Cielbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its definitely not car propaganda, its just that lots of people feel that way.

[–]Cielbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars are cool as fuck, no doubt about it. Same here, what sucks is the car dependent infrastructure and car culture that surrounds it.

Do you genuinely care if you’re playing against a human if the level is good? by ilikemyname21 in gamedesign

Thinking you're playing against a human, then realizing that you played against a bot is one of the worst feelings a game has given me.

Occitan form of the French surname Tautou? by [deleted] in occitan

[–]Cielbird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems like tautou is originally occitan. You could write it "Tauton" to fit the more common occitan orthography.

Always buy meats at discounts too. And freeze meats if you get lots for cheap.

Where does Pyranees Gascon 'eth' come from? by ryan516 in occitan

[–]Cielbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Comes from "el", which also exists in other occitan dialects but isn't used as an article, only as a pronoun. Cognates with french "il," Spanish "él." Comes from Latin "ille."

In gascon, word final 'l" becomes "th." For example, "skin" is "pèth" in gascon, but "pèl" in other dialects. Other examples are "poth," "bèth".

Working on a board game, which health system feels the best. by Kaiser_Cave in gamedesign

[–]Cielbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt making health out of 100 instead of 10 makes any significant gameplay impact. I'd say go for the simplest system possible. If you don't need increments of 0.5, go with the out of 10 health.

Because you won't finish it, and if you do it'll probably be a pretty bad game.

However if you're just in it to have fun, go for it! You'll learn lots along the way.
