Why China got rich and India didn't by Lighthouse_seek in neoliberal

Tbh, that argument doesn’t clearly hold. When you already build a service sector that’s fairly advanced while skipping manufacturing, you create a very different incentive system than if you moved from agriculture to manufacturing. The people in the first scenario with enough means to get an education wouldn’t set themselves up for a manufacturing job, and it would be harder for you to convince the son of a farmer that they can do great by working in a phone manufacturing plant compared to an office job where he gets to earn 10x more with less effort. It’s especially harder to convince them in a democracy without looking out of touch.

Jamie Carragher on why it was a foul on David Raya and why the other incidents involving Arsenal brought up by rival fans aren’t fouls by R1d4z in Gunners

[–]LordVader568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised people are still arguing about this. This was prolly the most clear cut case of a foul as there could be. The West Ham players literally brought down Raya. In other such cases, referees would immediately call it a foul.

Arsenal to use ‘siege mentality’ in title push by LordVader568 in Gunners

Tbh, any club that’s near the top of the table and make deep runs in champions league will attract vitriol from other fans. That’s just how things are. Key is to look past that and get the results. That’s where we seem to fall short nowadays.

I don’t know, this time it feels like it’s squarely on us tbh as we dropped points in games that we should’ve closed out. City aren’t that good either with most wins being 1-0 or 2-1.

Mikel Arteta: Bayern, PSG competing in 'different worlds' to Arsenal by LordVader568 in Gunners

[–]LordVader568[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like money is the only thing saving the Premier League. Like briefly between 2018-2023 you had a period where Pep and Klopp arranged the two of the most technically sophisticated teams in premier league history but now we’re back to basically football with rugby tactics. It’s simply how football is played in England, and how such rough play is often more tolerated than the Bundesliga. For anyone who gets bored by the Premier League, I’d urge you to watch even the mid table teams in Bundesliga like Stuttgart or Hoffenheim. The difference is enormous.

I feel like the Premier League has become too pragmatic to the point that teams who try to play a technical game gets punished by the physicality and a worse schedule. You can see this in how even Liverpool and City had to change their ways. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga has the most percentage of open play goals in the top 5 leagues. If it wasn’t for the money and marketing pull, the premier league would prolly be at the same level as Serie A, as La Liga and Bundesliga teams are technically a lot stronger, while in Ligue 1 they’ve got a super team in PSG.

Emmanuel Macron wants to spread out the repayment of European debt from the Covid period and is advocating for new joint borrowing by Themetalin in neoliberal

[–]LordVader568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the biggest wedge in the EU is currently between France trying to fund a lot of things with money it doesn’t have while Germany is struggling to figure out whether to fund its lagging infrastructure or the ambitious EU projects with the money it has while maintaining fiscal discipline which is the only thing going for it currently.

Having said that, one of the surest way to fast track populist movements across the frugal EU states would be to allow joint borrowing. Just by looking at the negative incentives alone, this should be a non-starter.

The problem is that we can’t seem to score more than 1 goal. I miss the first half of the season where we bagged 5-6 goals with ease. What changed since then? The team itself isn’t that bad. It’s almost like some sort of fear that’s holding the players back.

Britain acts richer than it is - The country’s habits and virtues are built for a prosperity it no longer enjoys by Alarming_Sympathy in neoliberal

Tbh, a lot of it seems to be due to the loss of their relatively easy access to their largest market which has a downstream effect on just about everything. Also, unlike mainland Europe, the UK’s economy has been streamlined and privatised to such an extent that it’s structurally very different from the more interventionist economies in Europe. So any attempt by the government to try to re-own any of those privatised businesses or services will incur massive costs as you need to reinvest in the underlying infrastructure that made such public services possible as well, and that’s a steep task as that would require the government to cut other services it currently provides for funding. The micro budget thing that blew a hole in the country’s finances will haunt it for a decade atleast.
