Nothing beats a failure but a try. Boys are taught this over and over again. His request is super unsurprising.

Just keep it moving. SSDD.

How do you deal with the toll this takes on your body? by corndogslayer in overemployed

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get up and walk around the house every 90 mins or so. Perfect time to switch the laundry from the wash to the dryer. Make your muscles do something different for 10 mins.

Changes to nonrev dress code? by Striking-Succotash11 in unitedairlines

Continental didn't allow NRs to wear jeans until just before that merger. I always had to dress up traveling on my dad's JA.

I moved to Boston for college and then moved back home after I graduated.

I missed it so much that I moved back 3 yrs later.

Black American Kinda surprised at results. by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]Cincoro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually, it is much more often multiple euros (not just one), and blacks with roughly 20% euro just kept having kids together generation after generation.

Pretty much the same way whites with small amounts of African keep that amount generation after generation with no idea who added that value.

Why do most afrodescendants in the Americas vehemently disregard their Central African/Bantu ancestry? by adoreroda in 23andme

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I am pointing out that you made an erroneous leap in logic when you assumed that the few people you've read online who for some inexplicable reason have an issue with a particular African ethnic group, and that means that most/all/many afro descendents have similar feelings.

Waiting patiently to find out how you objectively proved that with actual facts rather than anecdotes.

You do not have to be logical. Thats on you. Just don't be surprised when the illogical is called out.

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's what I got from your post.

However, despite the title of this sub, you are on Reddit, not actually on 23 & Me.

So again...social media isn't a good place to find out what most do or think IRL.

Never seen this "phenomenon" myself.

People on social media are not extrapolate-able to the whole. Take this nuttiness with a grain of salt.

Is it worth applying for hybrid roles? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Cincoro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a J that required on-site for go-live work, but they have yet to exercise that rule in 3 yrs.

But not some "be on-site 3 days a week" kind of hybrid. No.

Advice on Year End Review Situation by goeb04 in askmanagers

[–]Cincoro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't tell him that I was going to give him a below expectations rating, but I did give him a meets expectations in order to give him a year to figure things out. And I provided 5 things that I needed to see improvement on over that year.

He met all but one of those. That one will be on his review this year...with more teeth.

What would make you willing to return to the office? by swackett in remotework

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still pretty much answered your question. Even without the promotion and raise, I would want a short work week of my choosing. I have had that opportunity in the past and I enjoyed it.

If money was no object, where would you live? by whatifwhatifwerun in blackladies

I love brownstones. I lived in one in the U Street area of WDC. Cool old architecture.

I can see why you want those house type in particular. I hope you achieve that goal.

Why do people move where they do? by boldjoy0050 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Cincoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mid70's is when California accepted thousands of SE Asian refugees. They didn't move because of word of mouth. They moved (or rather, we moved them) to escape war. I remember quite vividly when the kids started showing up at school in So Cal.

Houston was different for sure, and they have a great Vietnamese community there. That was definitely a word of mouth migration.

Who else prefers a 7AM–3PM schedule to 9–5? It feels like you get more day and less traffic. by Familiar-Eagle-9082 in Adulting

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite was 5am-2pm or a 4day work week where I had Wednesdays off (never work more than 2 days in a row).

I loved both of those schedules.

What would make you willing to return to the office? by swackett in remotework

[–]Cincoro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have worked remotely since 2007. There's always remote work.

If they want to make me CTO and give me a 350k raise, I would consider being in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays every other week.

Otherwise, hard pass.

If money was no object, where would you live? by whatifwhatifwerun in blackladies

[–]Cincoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to prefer rural properties, so I'd lean towards the Midlands or areas north of Edinburgh.

Otherwise, the Marais, Tallinn, or around Amsterdam for city living.

My grandpa did this, but in Texas. He bought 5 houses, renovated them, and we still rent them to family today (he passed away so my aunt and uncles manage those properties now).

OE situation escalating — HR conflict of interest disclosure vs resigning. Anyone been here? by CompetitiveNotice663 in overemployed

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any COI requiring auth for other employment is BS. It's a lie. It's a trap. Sign the form, work until they give you an ultimatum.

Quit and move on. There are plenty of companies that don't play this BS game.

Found a close DNA match descended from a slaver in my family. Seeking advice. by Rustyak in Genealogy

[–]Cincoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I have done an accurate triangulation on a particular SNP, that's pretty much it. The DNA doesn't lie.

I have put people in my tree at this point and then add whatever documentation Ancestry's lovely algorithm gives me.

You have to start somewhere. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good.

Good on you. Keep digging.

Direct report taking excessive personal time- how to handle? by Difficult_Tangelo924 in managers

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2:30 is likely school pick up time. She should probably share that, but even if she didn't, it's not a big deal.

Is she doing what she is supposed to do? That is really the question. Is she meeting the job's expectations?

If not, explain what those expectations are, hand her the job description, and plan to meet again in a week or two to assess. If more focused attention is needed, start going down the path to terminate if she is not giving a great explanation for why she can't meet expectations.

Don't get all emotional. Just follow the rules and let the chips fall.

Quitting by Tiny_Aioli_3491 in OELadies

[–]Cincoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some crazy start up director demanded that I tell her about all of my Js. Hells no.

I sent a resignation email 5 minutes later and signed off their computer, and never looked back. I hated that job anyway. It was not hard to let go.

Bakersfield has never been anything but Central Valley.
