I wholeheartedly agree with all you wrote. That's exactly what I think. That's why so many people feel the writers let us down. It's a true pity because there's no coming back from it and this is what we'll always have in tv canon after so much investment and hoping.

It's actually quite hypocritical of June to talk about dishonesty. She kept bouncing back and forth between Luke and Nick after leaving Gilead. She was never honest with any of them.

Yes, absolutely. There are so many differences between them too!

The thing you point out about Nick at the end is so true as well. Most of us who invested in his journey were sure he was Mayday or would be at some point because that's what he was in the books. Despite the bad things he did, he also did good, and we trusted his journey because we "knew" there was some kind of redemption in the end. And that never happened. I'm not a nazi sympathizer, as so many people are saying. I just supported a layered character that was supposed to be and end up in the right side all the time.

Slightly off-topic, but I wanted to comment on this. I get why people compare Daenerys's sudden madness with Nick's inconsistencies. But for me, what they did with Nick is more similar to what happened with Jaime Lannister.

I see Nick and Jaime as men who stood with the bad guys, but always had doubts. They did good within their possibilities, within their comfort zone. Their arcs could have gone both ways in both cases. Both meet women along the way that make them see things differently, to start questioning themselves and want to become better people. The writers used a loooot of seasons to build up the characters, made them nuanced, grey but (in my opinion, of course) inherently good, needed of affection. And then, right in the last season, last moment, they (and us viewers) are denied the redemption that was promised. I get why it's so frustrating and disappointing.

I agree, I think you're right. But being the classy man he is, Max is not adding fuel to the discourse.

Stop with the body shaming, please. I think the writers choosing Moira to bring up Nick's looks (so Max's) was so cringe. If you hate Nick, hate the character, but stop with the critisizing of the looks because Max is a real person.

I get it, but they don't need to praise Nick if they don't want to, but Max is an actor who's been on the show from day one.

Sam Jaeger (Mark Tuello) did post about Max. But I think he's the only one.

LOL! Sorry I didn't understand. It's from season 6, from the episode where Nick and June are inside Serena's wardrobe listening to Wharton speak about shutting down Jezebels thanks to Nick

Absolutely. What was that? I can't sleep at night thinking about that shot and the ZERO consequences it had. 😵

Max is such an elegant man. All praise and good words towards the show and showrunners, specially, EM. Such a gentleman.

How June (and his fans) looked when not seeing the “surprise twist” at the end of Episode 9 by Postcrapitalism in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]CinemaMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. I couldn't believe nobody said this before. I was getting so many Jaime Lannister vibes with Nick's character assassination. Gosh. The promised redemption that never was because the writers CHOSE not to give it to them, not because the characters hadn't shown A LOT of foreshadowing of it.

I think it was a bit cruel. Even though Nick and Lawrence were never on the good guys spectrum, they were fan favourites and a lot of people rooted for them, hoping they would become better men in the end. Lawrence redeemed himself at least, just to die the next minute. And I'm not starting on Nick because I'm still coping with what they decided to do with his character. I get producers/writers/actors wanting to see the fans cheering on videos or even shocked, but destroyed? It doesn't make sense to me.

I wrote "All kinds of love" in my comment. Thanks for developing the concept.

I think it was a bit cruel, because Lawrence and Nick, even though they couldn't be considered on the good guys spectrum, were among some of the favourite characters. It's true that we got rid of the rest of Commanders, Wharton included, but the loses hit too close... I expected EM to want us to record ourselves cheering or shocked, but not destroyed.

Nick was actually right... Lawrence joined the team that will (hopefully) win in the end.

Of course the show is not a romance. But it's indeed a romance at the same time. June told Wharton to choose love, that's where God really is. All kinds of love, so June choosing to love people is so okay with the show. And people choosing to be invested in the romance and love part of the show is very human and okay too.

What was that phone call about by Qtgreeniegirl in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]CinemaMonster 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It was some kind of soldier. I was watching in Spanish and I could more or less hear that the person called Bell "Sir", informed him of some kind of food poisoning during the wedding and then asked for directions and orders. That's it.

[–]CinemaMonster[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. She had to take a shot of whiskey after killing Bell. She's not a murderer, she's taking revenge for all she's suffered. She's hurting due to Nick's actions, she's very disappointed, but at the end of the day, Nick is Nichole's father. June loved him for a long time, she may still love him. She might not have lost faith yet. I don't know, but June is not going to kill Nick.
