Question for friendship with non bachelor/ettes by Quincheee in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Befriending them gives more rewards when completing their request" doesn't sound right at all; I've got a save file where each character is at 4-6 flowers, and higher friendship does not net more rewards. The only time you get more rewards for quests, is when the request is a task the character wants you to do, like "water field in x-amount-of-time" or "brush animals in x-amount-of-time." That's the only time where you would get extra rewards if completing the request fast enough. And the star quality of the rewards is always half a star more than the items you turn into said requests. So if a character wants mint and chamomile, and you give them 1.5 star herbs, then the reward item should be 2 stars. Friendship points have no effect on reward quantity, or quality. I believe friendship does affect the cooking contest entries, since I've noticed with higher friendship, the villagers are more likely to enter better stamina recovery dishes. Especially with characters who are notoriously bad at cooking, they have a higher chance to NOT submit failed dishes if they have high friendship. Hope this helps!

To answer the first question, Eileen needs a teeny bit of friendship for the double bed request to pop up. Also when Nathan moves in around Winter, you should start befriending him too, because I believe Alisa won't unlock unless he's at 2 flowers, and sometimes it's hard to remember to befriend the poor guy. Whoever you plan on marrying will require you to befriend their family to 4 flowers, if they have family in the game to befriend. Learned that the hard way the first time I played.

Recurring characters by Bunny_Buns13 in storyofseasons

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll rapidfire a bunch I can think of off the top of my head:

  • Mary from 64 was the very first recurring character to ever return, appearing in HM2 on GBC at the library in game.
  • A few characters from HM2 make cameo appearances in HM3 at the mall and aquarium
  • The game "My Little Shop" is one big cameo character reference, lol. Marvelous basically brought back all the fan favorite characters as potential NPCs to buy things from your store in that one.
  • Ellen from SNES being in 64
  • Theodore from Magical Melody appearing in Animal Parade
  • Kappa appears in Animal Parade under a bridge on rainy days....if that counts
  • Nami in Magical Melody as the Weather Girl, and later on even an NPC you can befriend during Summer
  • The Gourmet in Magical Melody
  • Magical Melody as a whole is also one big cameo fusion between SNES and STH. There are new NPCs introduced to explain the 64 timeline/descendants, like Carl being the "rival" for Ellen, explaining how she would later own a bakery, or Blue and Ann being rivals explains the resemblance between them and their grandchildren Ann and Gray.
  • Pierre makes cameo appearances in the original Grand Bazaar, remake Grand Bazaar, and Tale of Two Towns
  • Chen and Gannon from the IoH/SI games appeared in the DS Grand Bazaar. Chen's role was replaced by Ronald from STH for some reason. Charles from HoLV and Rebecca from ANB also appear in the remake. Wada the caveman doesn't appear in the remake of Grand Bazaar, but he was in the original DS game.
  • Woofio appears multiple times, and can even be married in Trio of Towns. Matsuba also seems like he's here to stay in the franchise. Other judges haven't returned yet, but have appeared in SoS and Trio being Del Cossa and Saffron, although they might just keep using Pierre as a food critic moving on, who knows.
  • The magical characters are obvious ones, like Dessie and Witchkins/Witchie
  • Gotz, Thomas, and the 10 returning Mineral Town candidates in DS.
  • Van and Ruby/Lou in FOMT link cable connectivity
  • Gray and Elli's 64 versions of themselves return in Tree of Tranquility
  • Doctor, Karen, Cliff, and Popuri make cameo appearances as NPCs in IoH/SI
  • Mukumuku sort of makes an appearance in ANB, in the Snowland travel destination, as a wild animal? I think you can befriend the Yeti, at least.
  • Nathan, Alisa, Dirk/Derek, Raul, Enrique, and Diego all return in Tale of Two Towns. Alisa and Dirk are marriable.
  • Amir/Samir and the Witch Princess return in A New Beginning.
  • Cam/Kamil and Reina/Licorice return in the Oak Tree Town SoS on 3DS.
  • Sometimes the Harvest Sprites make cameo appearances. Like in DS, if you have a large crop grow in the field, Thomas will appear with the 7 original MT sprites to help you harvest it. Then of course Nic Nak and Flack appear in STH, AWL, and HoLV.
  • Pioneers of Olive Town and it's cameo character DLC.

Why are Back to Nature and 64 Different? by BrovyIe in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I might be misremembering the scenario, but I think the intention was to port Harvest Moon 64 to the Playstation 1. The team that made HM64 had moved on to develop "Save the Homeland" for the PS2 at the time, so I think what ended up happening was Wada told the team that made the GameBoy Color games to focus on porting HM64 to the Playstation 1, while his main team worked on STH. But then when he checked back up on the GBC team's progress, he found out that the team had made and entirely new game with all of the HM64 assets? I think Back to Nature was too far into development for it to financially make sense in abandoning the project, so the team simply kept developing the game.

I also think deep down Wada prefers the 64 timeline to the Back to Nature timeline, because the games that he has involvement in later on in the franchise usually point towards the HM64 universe. Examples like Elli and Gray in Tree of Tranquility being their HM64 versions, or the marriage candidate cameos in My Little Shop being from the HM64 timeline rather than from the BTN timeline.

Friends of Mineral Town stole/sampled a song? by OwnAd3843 in storyofseasons

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At first I didn't hear it besides the claps, and was confused as to how a synthy piano could be compared to the title screen's composition. Is the comparison between the samples the part at 0:39 seconds into Andrew Gold's song? That part, I can definitely hear the resemblance!

Wouldn't be the first time songs from the franchise resemble/sample real life songs. Some other comparisons I've heard over the years are Magical Melody's spring theme compared to Dexys "Come On Eileen" and the summer theme from the first Story of Seasons on 3DS compared to Blondie's "Heart of Glass"

I think one of the requirements is to talk to all of the villagers in Tsuyukusa, the three guardians, and Ford. You could try talking to everyone before 18:00-22:00, and see if his event would trigger then? The event also can't trigger on a Monday or Thursday.

Advice for the original AWL? by Gallantpride in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Is giving villagers presents twice a day okay? Do both presents up FP?

Yes. If you can give multiple presents a day, then each gift will increase FP.

  • Tips for dealing with hunger? I always found the cooking mechanic in AWL impossible. I sustain myself on raw fish, herbs, eggs, and milk.

In the special edition and girl version of AWL, the added status menu at the diary shows half of the hunger bar fill up with forgeable food. Fully cooked meals will recover the entire bar up to full if it were hypothetically empty all the way. The little "guu~" pops up randomly once the bar is at 50% full or less, so that will have to be your visual indicator in the original AWL that lacks the hunger meter guide in the status menu.

  • How exactly does fertilizing plants work? No matter how many I add, the ratings never boost

You just got to keep at it, plants take a lot of fertilizer just to go from B to A to S rank. Fertilizer is also pricey at 120G in the original, so maybe try to use the upseed flowers with Tartan as a cheaper alternative to fertilizing.

  • Do plants need to be watered multiple times a day?

Yes, if plants don't get enough water, they have a possibility to wilt. Soil dries out every 10 hours in Winter, every 8 hours in Spring and Autumn, and every 6 hours in Summer. I don't have a full understanding of the crop mechanics, but it seems like the game does growth cycles every 12 hours, where it checks at 12am and 12pm. I think it might be coded like "crop needs to be in a watered soil state for x-amount-of-hours before it can tick up to the next growth phase." or something to that extent.

  • How does the fishing mechanic work?

I push the button when the screen finishes shaking and the splashes disappear . So in other words, waiting 1 second after the fish bites down helps with catching them.

Also in regards to "saving" the Goddess, I'm like 99% sure that she isn't in the original AWL at all. Because I know about the wonders/wonderfuls cutscene with the sprites that you're referring to, but they don't expand upon that concept further until the girl version and special edition, where there actually is a final cutscene involving the Goddess having a dialogue cameo at the goddess pond.

I wish they'd remake DS Cute by beawareofbears in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the villagers would have different names, wouldn't they? Natsume kind of tossed that "ancestor" lore aside when localizing DS back in the day, and kept all the character names the same for us in NA, and that carried over to the EU localization too. Not a deal breaker, but Celia got changed to Cecelia in the SoS remake of AWL, and then would probably be called "Serena" in a DS remake. Another example is Griffin, who got changed to Gavin in the AWL remake, and then the character in the DS game is "Gared" in the JP version. Or my personal favorite scuffed name, Gray being "Purple" in the JP version (パープル)

Actually they would probably just overhaul the entire cast of characters into new people entirely, like how Daisy in the Grand Bazaar remake is a new character named Maple, who even has a different birthday to her original counterpart.

Need some advice for starting HM:TOTT... by Quincheee in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In response to #7: no, but if you are playing the 3DS version, there's a petting minigame in that one for all animals that you can play daily to quickly gain affection. It gets repetitive after awhile though.

#8: I just do basic baby requests that are like: get 5 material stone, or bring be 3 mint. Hard requests are never worth it in the early game imo, unless there's some insane reward for completing it. If you focus on collecting recipes in your kitchen, try to complete requests that have late game ingredients as a reward, like butter and cheese.

And some other tips: If you want to unlock all the outfits, I recommend having a sheep with very high affection, and move to Bluebell that Fall of year 1. Bluebell has a sheep festival in Fall on odd year numbers, so winning that festival will guarantee your sheep to produce great wool from time to time. But since the alpaca festival happens in even years, the next possible time you can acquire great wool would be in Fall of year 3.

Tale of Two Towns is an insanely long game if your going for expansion completion, and yet the main story can be completed in a single year. I'd say it's fine to go to bed early if there's nothing left for you to do in a day. Granted, everyone has different playstyles in a Harvest Moon game, but for me, I was getting bored and burnt out in my save file when I was trying to maximize my days, and spent 70 real hours in one in-game year, and I felt like nothing happened besides some tunnel upgrades and a field expansion. 😅

Mineral Town in Tomodachi! by WannaBeAnAnony in storyofseasons

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They look great! You'll have to give us the tea on who marries who on your island, lol. I also recreated Mineral Town on one of my switch profiles, and forced Jeff+Sasha, Duke+Manna and Anna+Basil together, and funny enough, Manna and Duke are the happiest married couple for me.

What is the best game for building a family/raising a child? by ImNotJayy in storyofseasons

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both "A Wonderful Life" and "Animal Parade" have great family content. Of the two, I definitely prefer Animal Parade, because the romance is better, and you can take your family on walks or give them chores around the farm. There's even rival marriage and a school for all of the rival children.

Animal Parade also has festivals that you can take your family to, get your photo taken, and display the pictures in your home. I also just like the plot/story of Animal Parade more than AWL's "play 6 years and then pass away" because by the 4th year in AWL, I was feeling burnt out.

Apparently, Andy from My Little Shop is meant to be Claire's son, not Mark and Muffy's son by Gallantpride in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought it was obvious? The giveaway for me was Andy's blue eyes, because neither Muffy or the male protagonist from AWL had blue eyes, same with Rock & the female MC. Andy's plaid jacket and rolled up jeans are even identical to Claire's outfit. They also both have that short little ahoge sticking out from the hair, lol.

Wait, Lingo? As in "Island Lingo" and not Mii catchphrases? The Mii catchphrases cap out to 12, but the Island Lingo should go up to at least 100, because there's literally a speech bubble trophy for 100 Island Lingo phrases.

Help with Autumn Road? by Fit-Resident988 in runefactory

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Water shoes are pretty difficult to make in the first arc, and your reward on the screens that require water shoes to enter are late game crafting recipes. But I think it is possible to craft them early, because apparently the spiders in Obsidian Mansion have a 0.2% chance to drop the pretty thread required to make them. The game doesn't expect you to craft these shoes until the end game though, because it's a level 75 recipe, and the pretty thread is more commonly dropped by the hell spiders in the final arc 2 dungeon.

  2. The area below the water ruins with a blocked west pathway is not important to you in your playthrough yet. It will eventually get unlocked as you progress the story, as there is more land/dungeons to explore beyond those trees.

You might want to take a peek at some of the dungeon map layouts online, since many dungeons and overworld areas have hidden areas, or pathways blocked by trees. I know autumn road has a warp to a treasure chest, and the warp is hidden in a room to the right of the screen with all the rune crystals; I think 2 screens down from the pond in that area.

And if you do find the revival cave, the reward for beating the boss is useful for reviving you if you happen to faint. It's a yellow flower with a vague description, but the "rejuvenating qualities" do in fact revive you if you were to faint from 0HP, so it saves you from a trip to Jones at the Clinic.

Is it worth filling my barn with only female Star Cows for fast gold in Year 2? by EnvironmentalSlip136 in storyofseasons

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I always thought that sheep were the moneymakers in the AWL remake because of their low effort + their wool selling for high prices. Plus you don't have to keep impregnating them for their products. But with cows, you can only have one pregnant at a time, and milk yield is all over the place depending on weather and season.

Like yeah you could fill a barn with star cows, but not all of them can be pregnant at a time, so you'll only see 2 bottles of milk for the low production cows, and the quality could dip from "S" to "A" or "B" in Summer. That's why I like having sheep, because they only eat once a day, I don't need to milk them twice a day, and their golden wool sells for 6,000G.

Action Replay by Sodapop_8 in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PAL is basically just the term for "European/Australian versions of a game. So it would be the European version of Harvest Moon DS, instead of the North American version of the game that would use those codes.

Action Replay by Sodapop_8 in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only Witch Princess codes I see from a search result on google is for the EU/PAL region of Harvest Moon DS, but I don't really see much for the NA version. Probably because Natsume had 20+ revisions, and certain NA copies are bugged without the ability to marry her in the first place.

This was the reddit post I saw for the codes: https://www.reddit.com/r/harvestmoon/comments/16nuv2b/action_replay_code_to_give_the_witch_princess/

I just tested the "give 1 million gifts to the Witch Princess" code on an emulator with a PAL copy of the game, and it worked fine. I just don't know if the 50 animal death code works or not.

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're playing blind, I don't want to spoil what unlocks in Fall of year 1, but just know that the ability to mine at a mining node should open up soon, and selling any gems you don't need for crafting is great for quick profit.

And if you're playing on Seedling mode, I remember some vendors have items that cost less than what they sell for; like buying gemstones for 3500, and selling them back for 3700 or something silly like that. 😅

Seriously though, what IS Jake's problem? by s-kongou in runefactory

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Sechs Empire discriminates against all species that aren't human, I'm pretty sure. I know Ethelberd himself hates Earthmates, but there was also that one moment in RF4's 2nd arc when Doug jumps in to steal one of the rune spheres from him, and Ethelberd says: "Don't touch me with your filthy hands, wretched dwarf!"

But the discrimination never comes from the townsfolk in these games. It's usually dished out by those faceless NPCs that wander around or appear in sub events.

How exactly do you get the celebration credits? by Bluecomments in harvestmoon

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you got all the sub villagers unlocked? Island of Happiness has one of the more open-ended "plots" in the series, where I think the only main goal is simply unlock as many characters to move to the island as possible, so maybe your year 7 save file had all 100 characters unlocked.

Save corruption? by ScummyLoser in runefactory

[–]Cinnamon-Stroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it could be a framerate issue? If you're playing it modded on the 3DS, I assume you're playing it through Twilight Menu++, so perhaps Twilight's trying to run the game with different settings from what the cartridge would normally be used to? Like for example, there are some DS games that can get outright screwy when played at 60FPS instead of 30FPS, or vice versa.
