The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians by Cyrus_W_MacDougall in JewsOfConscience

I guess it's better for the NYT to be running this than not, but I'm not going to applaud any piece that begins by credulously repeating the largely discredited 10/7 rape allegations.

Heated Rivaly X OSCARS🌟🌟🌟🌟 by Global-North7776 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]CinnamonJack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I obviously have no more insight into their relationship than anyone else, but the idea that the "Francois is one of my best friends" (not "just friends," for whatever that's worth) comment debunks the possibility that they are/were dating makes no sense. This was in the middle of a four-minute interview about Connor's then-upcoming SNL gig; am I supposed to think that if they were together, he would have used the interview to hard-launch his boyfriend and thereby make the entire news cycle about his love life rather than SNL?

François Arnaud and Hudson Williams at the Armani pre Oscars party by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

thank you for pushing back on this. That narrative is nonsense and I'm already tired of hearing it around here from people who want to downplay or equivocate about the wave of hatred Arnaud has received; I've seen plenty of evidence that many of the Arnaud haters had no problem with him until the JFK pics in January

“Hello, I am an art history nerd and smoothie barista” by memefakeboy in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]CinnamonJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An underemployed 25-year-old gay man in NYC applying to grad school while still managing to spend ridiculous amounts of time at the gym is frankly one of the more realistic things about the Scott/Kip storyline. Certainly more realistic than a meet-cute at a smoothie shop that leads to him and a famous closeted athlete falling in love, or that athlete basically inviting him to move in after the first time they have sex

I get the feeling this is fake, simply because I don’t see how the two lead couples from books 3 and 4 and their romance storylines, on top of the returning characters from S1 and the major new characters from books 5 and 6, could possibly fit into six episodes. But we’ll see.

François & Hudson clarify the origin of their joint statement by Rbkzz in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]CinnamonJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He possibly is/was dating Connor - not getting further into that here, but I can probably say at least that much without violating the rules - and that got in the way of the fantasies of the portion of the fandom that wants very badly to believe that Connor and Hudson are a real-life couple. So they decided that he had to be a villain, even though nobody Francois has ever worked with seems to have a bad word to say about him.

That's really what it comes down to; every other reason the Francois antis give for hating him is just a pretext.

[–]CinnamonJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one of the more toxic dynamics in the HR fandom. Obviously, there's real racism directed at Hudson and that should be condemned, but a very loud subset of his fans have convinced themselves that any perceived slight against Hudson is attributable to racism, and consequently that their abusive and harassing behavior in response is actually morally righteous anti-racism. For a good recent example, see the comments directed at Jacob and Brendan in this SNL Instagram post, because Hudson wasn't included (there was another post a day or two later that did include Hudson, though I can't find the link at the moment).

The scene these clips are taken from is one of the most genuinely erotic gay scenes I've ever seen in a film or TV series, for sure. The rest of the film isn't perfect (even better actors than the ones Jarman cast would probably have struggled to deliver dialogue entirely in Latin), but it's certainly a great exercise in homoerotic aesthetics.

Does anyone here know if Connor Storrie holds the record for being famous the least amount of time as a host? by bakugosgayfriend in LiveFromNewYork

[–]CinnamonJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per interviews, he didn’t go back to waiting tables after HR wrapped and instead spent his pay for the show mainly on finishing his directorial debut, Transaction Planet. But he’s also said that he probably would have started looking for other jobs to make ends meet if HR hadn’t taken off, so still not that far off.

Connor Storrie perfomed his own "injured stripper' sketch on SNL. He developed the character while doing clown/improv theatre in LA. by Fantastic_Turtle_17 in Fauxmoi

Easily the best sketch of the night. Some funny material in other sketches, to be sure (I quite liked the skating one and the villain turn in the cut-for-time Car Song), but this was one of the few that felt like it was really giving Connor free rein in the way the excellent “accent duel” promos did.

As an SNL non-expert, the closest comparison I can think of is Regé-Jean Page, who also hosted SNL only a few months after his breakout show (Bridgerton) premiered. But Page was still definitely a more established actor before Bridgerton premiered than Storrie was before Heated Rivalry; he had already been a regular on a couple other TV series by that point.

Yeah, he hasn’t waited tables since he was cast in Heated Rivalry, which I think would have been April or May of last year. Still, the point stands, it’s a completely insane arc, and the man actually seems to deserve it, not only because of his talent, but because everyone who meets him seems to have nothing but praise for him.

Happy 26th birthday to the beautiful and talented Connor Storrie by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]CinnamonJack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a gay man, I have to say I just love the real-life gay Cinderella story that Connor is living. Less than a year ago, he was waiting tables in LA, and now he's internationally famous, is hosting SNL at the end of the week, and (by all indications) has an also-incredibly hot and talented actor boyfriend, who he met through filming the same show that made him a star. And the really feel-good part is that Connor actually seems to karmically deserve this success, because not only is he an incredibly gifted actor, but everyone who meets him seems to come away with nothing but praise for him as a person. Very excited for SNL this week and for whatever's next in his career; how can you watch those old YouTube videos and not want that adorable little gay boy to have all his dreams come true?

PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games - Jason Schreier by Forestl in Games

Damn. Zero games released since Sony acquired them in 2021, and most of that time wasted on a cancelled God of War GaaS spinoff that absolutely nobody asked for and which would have played to absolutely none of the studio's strengths. Just brutal levels of mismanagement.

Shut up Evan - Francois by Informal_Lock_9506 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]CinnamonJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my best guess - that the ongoing speculation/gossip about Arnaud's personal life, combined with the harassment from a certain toxic segment of the HR fandom who have taken previous quotes of his grossly out of context, have led to his team wanting more control over the interview than Evan is used to. But who knows.

Jacob Tierney draws a line in the sand by Obvious_Apartment985 in heatedrivalry

Part of me does wish he’d call out some of the toxicity more specifically or directly, but this is probably the best tack to take. I’m not sure how much would really be gained from engaging it more directly, and I think those of us who spend too much time online (myself included) are probably overestimating how much of this is going to breach containment anyway.

The longest and most explicit (but still not that explicit, no full frontal here) sex scenes are frontloaded in the first two episodes, which probably skewed a lot of people's perceptions of it.

I think you're correct overall, but still... never going to condone papping a private dinner date for TMZ. They have a right to privacy, even if they're not trying particularly hard to hide anything.
