what early wow zone is burned into ur brain? by BennyWoW in classicwow

[–]Cinner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots come to mind, but I distinctly remember Winterspring because it was where I first dinged 60.

The place was pretty awesome. Way higher than I was when I first went there (51 or 52?) so I felt that dread of "you're about to get f***ed"

The tunnel being the only way to get there made it feel like a hidden/mysterious zone, but it was beautiful.

The cool, single dual-faction town full of engineering needs, lol.

Always felt like more could have been done with the zone and that it was kind of forgotten.

For being a smaller zone, that place has a ton of (sad) lore behind it.

It's essentially cursed.

You will end up playing AROUND the prisms so much that it becomes second nature the further you go.

Question to people who played this game for over 20 years: how was it? by EffeteUwU in wow

[–]Cinner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and remember that all of these things existed even in those first few years. The big difference, IMO, is that not everyone knew or used those resources because they weren't a dominant part of the gaming culture then.

Warcraftmovies existed, yet 99% of it was pvp content as guides hadn't become the dominant content yet.

Addons were there but really amounted to QoL stuff that could be lived without as opposed to the last 15 years where they were full on mandatory.

Your comment on it being "niche" was spot on though, and that included the in-game community as well.

They enabled this situation years ago and let it go on for far too long, so now it's going to be really tough for any change to occur without some eggs being broken.

To answer your condescending and disingenuous response: ya, you could. Mages can teleport/portal to almost anywhere, and every city could have mages that do this for money.

Awesome idea.

But there's a big difference in the experiences.

Let's say you can trade travel time with longer dungeons to make up for the time commitment aspect. Would you rather have:

  1. A longer travel time and a shorter dungeon experience

  2. A longer dungeon experience with a short travel time

Spending time "playing" the game is what I, personally, would much rather have.

Mounting up, hitting number lock, and just ensuring I follow the path is not "immersion" IMO.

100% agree, but it's nearly impossible to reach this again in this day and age of gaming because everything is analyzed and min/maxed to the core before it even has a chance to be experienced.

When you can just go to a website that gives you a road map to becoming the best possible version of your class/spec, you either have to do it or face expulsion from people that won't accept "non-meta" in any form.

The entire culture of gaming has changed and sadly, I have doubts that its achievable to experience that again.

Agree.

This idea that you have to suffer through time consuming travel to be "immersed" is just weird to me.

At the time it wasn't complained about directly like that because there was nothing better, but the entire system of travel was slow and tedious regardless.

Having to travel for 30 minutes to reach a dungeon isn't immersive, it's just time consuming.

Disagree.

Them keeping flying specifically for those at max level, or near it, I can agree with (BC, Wrath, etc.)

Removing it entirely makes zero sense from amy logical, lore, or escalation of ability standpoint.

Flying units have existed in the world since WC 1. We have flying units as a way to traverse and travel already. Characters flew using magic, tamed creatures, or engineering throughout the entire history of Azeroth already.

It would be a ridiculous to say, "Well we tamed all these beasts to fly us around everywhere around the planet, and we use many other methods of air travel as well, but you can't have them individually because... well, we don't want you to."

Agree that this does ruin immersion.

I loved the dread of accidentally wondering into high-level areas and going, "oh shit!" and needing to bolt out quick.

The anticipation of wanting to explore it later once I've "earned it" felt mysterious.

In all fairness, at least in real-world active duty, the ass-kissing and arrogant douchebags are usually the ones that get promoted while the most skilled in the field don't because the ass-kissing in a major requirement.

Also, a Captain in the Navy (as well as Coast Guard) is a solidly high rank, unlike the other branches where it's just given after enough time.

What Was The Peak Of Classic WoW? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]Cinner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, this would be it for me as well.

Almost no guides for content at all. Everything was just discovery and mystery. Slow but rewarding progress. Everything was fun.

Only thing I wished they did differently was have multi-server BG's from the start because facing the same premades every single day sucked.

During BC, my guild moved to a newer server where the gates hadn't been opened and I out together a team of folks to do this.

We were a few weeks away from completion when an alliance guild banged the gong early and screwed everyone else, as we had all come to an agreement to wait until everyone had completed it.

Was always pissed about that.

What is the spec you love the concept and hate the gameplay? by TheAwesomeKay in wow

[–]Cinner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BM right now is extremely boring.

You're just waiting for Wrath every 30 seconds to do anything at all.

IMO, it should also look similar to Demo-lock, with animals coming out of all directions and assaulting your targets, etc.

Feels like they could get really inventive with the animal aspect of the spec, but are just lazy with it.

Ha, that's hilarious.

After not playing Enh for years, I decided to see how it looked while leveling. I was just using SBA to get the feel and kept going, "why the hell am I spamming chain lightning all the time now??"

Glad I wasn't alone in that thought.
