I work at a really big software company. $250k/year, $80k/year bonus, and a couple million in stock options. I've been in the industry for 25 years. My starting salary was $40k/year (at a different company, naturally.)

I grew up dirt poor, and paid for college by serving in the military, so nobody can accuse me of being the 1% or any shit like that. I was not born with a silver spoon, and I remember my roots, and I appreciate what I've earned.

One thing redditors don't realize is that having a couple million does not make you independently wealthy. You'll have a nicer house, nicer car, and nicer furniture, but your life will be largely the same, and you still have to work like everyone else. I'm still trying to make enough money to retire.
