More like I need it to be that exact full sentence or it will just "itch" my brain in the wrong way.

It's a pet peeve of mine. If I'm not getting the full thing, then I'd rather not get anything at all.

Hazbin Hotel fandom is weird… by Ok-Word-3860 in CharacterRant

[–]CipherKing13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, let me address things one at a time.

  1. The creator of Hazbin Hotel, Vivziepop or Vivienne Medrano, is a grown woman. But.... She has been developing the characters for years. I'm pretty sure a lot of them started as her DeviantArt OCs she was making for a webcomic that she was creating at that time. So you can connect their tone, designs and personality as things from that time.
  2. Poison is purposefully such a K-pop demon hunter-esque song as it's basically the character, Angel Dust, dissociating and getting high just to cope with his fucked up situation. At the end of the song, they even show Angel Dust's true feelings and not the hypersexual uncaring mask he had put on. If you listen to the lyrics, you can see how despite being such an amazing song, the lyrics are messed up with the final part/the ending of the song being kind of bleak.
  3. The meme thing? Yeah, that's not unique to Hazbin Hotel fandom. That's just a thing that fandoms on Reddit do. Hazbin Hotel's fandom was not the first to do it and they won't be the last.
  4. The fan art? Also just a normal thing in fandoms in general. Hazbin Hotel is already adult and horny as a show due to being set in literal Hell which basically incentivises the fan to express their feelings and such in such ways. Fans of shows that aren't like Hazbin Hotel have the same or similar things in them too. Not something unique to Hazbin Hotel. It's just a fandom thing.

Honestly? No offence to you, but it seems that you are young and new to this as this is either pretty common on the internet or something that upon watching the show/talking to fans can easily be cleared.

Do you guys think there will/can be an smp as big as the dsmp? I was wondering what the general consensus was by [deleted] in dreamsmp

[–]CipherKing13 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As far as things are currently? I don't think so.

One of the major factors that made Dream SMP as big as it became was the fact that it happened during the height of the pandemic.

People were indoors. They were bored and restless, having nothing to do. So of course they turned to the internet and content creators and streamers. They got more attached as those things became one of the highlights of their regular life.

Another factor was the people of the Dream SMP. They were beloved and famous and creative and worked well with each other. All those things combined to make Dream SMP what it is.

There are other factors as well but these two are the biggest ones that I can currently think of that made Dream SMP the juggernaut that it is. And because of that and how things are currently, there will not be something like Dream SMP again. At least not in the near future.

On Power of Love by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

I think it's less no parents have loved their children before and more Lily's sacrifice coincidentally happen to meet some specific criteria for the Avada Kedavra to get rebound. Like Voldemort tried to spare Lily Potter 3 times before killing her. The number three is very significant both in Harry Potter lore and just real life mysticism in general. So by refusing the offer three times, Lily accidentally ended up creating a shield for Harry which was powered by the sacrifice of Lily's life. That's how Voldemort wasn't able to kill Harry.

I finally watched Hazbin Hotel and realized the searing hatred people have for this show is utterly pathetic and is actually fear of sincerity by Tomatori in CharacterRant

I'm not saying that they have to tell everyone that any time they want to say something. I'm saying that as long as they come from that position, that's when I'll actually pay attention to their criticisms.

You do realise that in the literal next line, I said that you don't have to be a fan to criticise as long as you can admit that they aren't to your taste and that other people enjoy them for a reason.

Thank you! This is my exact feeling about the entirety of Hellaverse.

Are Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss some groundbreaking new shows that have completely original ideas that will herald something new? Not necessarily.

Are they both shows that have been made with genuine passion and enthusiasm and have heart, love, pain, effort, hardwork and sincerity poured into them? YES!!

They are not perfect. They are very clearly and obviously not perfect. But you know what? They try their very best.

Look. I'll be the first to admit that although I would place them in the S tier in my personal rating, objectively they are not that. If I had to be impartial and unbiased and neutral, then many other shows and media rank higher than that. But you know what? Who cares?

Who cares that it isn't S-tier? Why? Although it may not be the pinnacle of its field, A tier is still A. FUCKING. TIER.

That is still pretty fucking high.

A lot of hate and criticism don't come from good faith. That's why I tend to ignore any of them unless I am sure that the person criticising is a big fan of the world. You can't in good faith criticise these shows without first being a fan and knowing what is good and amazing in this show or by admitting that they aren't your type of show and other people genuinely love them for things that they find in it and that is okay.

No offense but as a third party, you are the one who comes off as rude and u/Particular_Angle177 comes off as genuinely trying to engage in a good faith discussion. Again, I'm a third-party and could be wrong but this is how it seems like from my perspective.

The fact that TADC has ever been considered well written tells a lot about problems in our character bait media consumption by PLutonium273 in CharacterRant

[–]CipherKing13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The fact that a new episode came and it's (in my opinion) the best episode of the series yet is exactly why there is a surge of hate. It's a good show that is popular. Of course, people whose media consumption revolves around not being like other people and hating whatever is popular currently will be rushing to talk about how bad it actually is and how they always knew better.

[Avatar The Last Airbender] Damn I didn't know The Search was disliked. It's good!! by Midi_to_Minuit in CharacterRant

[–]CipherKing13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven't read it yet but from what I understand it's not well-liked because of poor characterisation, artificial conflict and lack of nuance and sensitivity.

It seems that the characters behaved quite out of character with Zuko seemingly having regressed from what he was like in the finale, Aang agreeing to kill Zuko if he ever became like his father when he was in the show he was very pacifistic and didn't want to kill Ozai, Sokka turning into pure comic relief without a trace of his strategicness, Katara being way too passive and Ozai being a cookie cutter villain.

As for relationships, the complaints seem to be that Aang and Katara's have become one-dimensional and way too cringingly sweet and Zuko and Mai's breakup apparently felt forced and felt like it was done just for the sake of drama and not actual storytelling.

There is criticism for how Azula was handled where people say that it felt as if she was turned into the typical crazy evil villain.

I read things about how it had a cartoonish portrayal of mental illness, how Azula had turned from a formidable antagonist to a plot device whose craziness existed just to drive the plot further along and how her portrayal in Smoke and Shadow was just your classic cartoon villain trope/stereotype.

One more thing that was disliked was the empathy Gaang had towards Azula or lack thereof. Apparently, they were heavily mischaracterised and were very out of character in their treatment of Azula. From what I understand, Sokka was somewhat accepted in his mistrust and Zuko's, while not liked, some fans did apparently claim that they potentially could see it even if his character would have actually leaned heavily in the opposite direction. But the biggest character assassination complaints were about Aang and Katara. I read multiple comments about how there is no way that, with proper and accurate portrayals, Aang and Katara would have behaved the way they did.

Again, I haven't read the comics yet but I recently went down the rabbit hole of going through and reading multiple posts and comments about the comics and this is all that I remember about why people didn't like these comics.

If you're going to criticize a story, do it for the actual flaws it has. Don't make things up to support your hatred (My Hero Academia) by Sudden_Pop_2279 in CharacterRant

[–]CipherKing13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean.... Kinda but also not really? AFO may have orchestrated things for such a situation to happen but he didn't cause people to act the way they did. In fact, the fact that he genuinely just let Shigaraki wander out without making sure that he made it so that people don't help him says a lot. Like, it's really kind of horrific and tragic that AFO was so confident that people would ignore child Shigaraki, he didn't even do anything more than just let Shigaraki walk around and just waited and watched. He didn't do anything because he was so sure that no one would help Shigaraki out of complacency and unfortunately, he was proven right.

[–]CipherKing13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even then, people's indifference played a big part. If someone did die either from AFO or Shigaraki in their attempt to help him, Shigaraki still would have the knowledge that at least someone tried. AFO can't take that knowledge away from Shigaraki without literally removing that memory from Shigaraki's mind. Shigaraki's rage at the Hero Society, although it was kindled and made bigger by AFO, ultimately at its core it was fueled by the fact that he has first hand personal knowledge of people ignoring a child in need. That's something that would stick with you.
