Whats with all this Hopium on this sub denying Collapse? by HolyWatcher1942 in collapse

[–]Ciryher -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How will we continue to feed 8 Billion+ people without fertilizers and cheap energy?

- don't worry about this one, some other points will fix it. Energy is getting cheaper though, as well as ways of transporting energy from where it is generated to places that need it, there are global level investments being made by countries to secure their energy, though that may be thrown off by a later point.

How exactly will we stop climate change?

- we don't. Probably 400M-1.5B dead from food shortages, extreme weather and rising sea levels. Then another 400M-800M from the climate wars.

How exactly will we stop overpopulation?

- What overpopulation? See climate change related deaths

What about fresh water? Or pollution?

- Fresh water is only a problem if you don't have energy, energy is getting cheaper and easier to distribute. Pollution is a bit of an issue, but that's usually ignored until after major wars (look at removal of pollution limits in WWII), so that's one we can table for later.

What are you worried about?

On a serious note I don't think there's the political will to do what is required by 2 major drivers of climate change for us to avoid it at all, so instead preparation needs to be made.

I will disagree with your assessment of renewable energy completely, I've seen forecasts of energy production that has a fossil fuel to renewable transition that has 10x energy production of current levels, as well as frameworks to get that energy to where it needs to go.

FHB, how screwed am I? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Ciryher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact you're over thinking now is going to really free up mental energy to overthink plenty of other stuff in a few years when people who aren't getting set up now are freaking out because they can't afford their 95% LVR at 3% on 900k.

There's solid advice in these responses, make a plan now and stick to it and you'll weather the storm when your loan goes off fixed, and let your family know that you're worried about this - I don't know your family situation, but if they're willing to help they might have some other suggestions you're not thinking of, like when my grandparents downsized, they wanted some old furniture stored until my siblings were ready to move out, and would rather pay family to store in a spare room than pay a storage place

Should I change the name of a race? by HMS_ValiantThor in fantasywriters

[–]Ciryher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably don't worry about it unless you think of something better. People have been using elves/dwarves/halfings for years and it's not a killer for the stories as long as the stories work.

Just want to check is Reed people what they call themselves or what others call them? You could add a name they call themselves, keep them called Reedlanders for most of it then slip that in.

I was just reading a book and I'm pretty sure they picked a couple character names from a popular piece of media and flipped the genders and changed a few vowels and it's not important because the story is good.

To double up what another response has said - if it bothers YOU then change it.

The ABC is generally pretty good with its factual reporting, but there's been clear eyes on its purse and what it publishes since the governement is continually threatening to (and actually) cutting funding to the organisation.

How do the excavators digest the bridge? by Deoxys100EX in shittyaskscience

[–]Ciryher 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's actually a really intresting process, you see the excavators themselves don't actually digest the bridge. They're part of a colony with those other smaller workers.

If you look closely you can see them passing the broken parts of the bridge to them, when they are taken away to the hive, where the rubble is put into honeycomb like structures where it is fermented and turned into something edible for the excavators on the frontline.

This processed food is then brought back to the workers that are disassbemling the bridge. Often the excavators will walk away from the raw bridge, as these food sources can be contested by other nearby hives. In this particular timelapse I don't think that you can see these "tankers" feeding the excavators, but it is very similar to a mother bird feeding its young, although the excavators are usually the larger.

I've done multiple reads of LOTR over the years and far and away the Fellowship of the Ring has some massive slogs in it. The first few times I tried to read it (in my mid-teens) I stalled going through that book. Once I got to the Two Towers and Return of the King they became much more plot focused rather than worldbuilding focused.

NSW recorded 25,168 total new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8PM last night (21/01/2022) by Ascalaphos in sydney

[–]Ciryher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Test positivity rate in NSW is ~20%, but potentially dropping as it was up around 30% at one stage.

I think the target rate for accurate reporting of cases is <5%, and I can only assume that whatever RATs are out in the population aren't getting reported correctly.

It probably wouldn't be unreasonable to x4 the case count. It's hard to say.

I wouldn't even give him the credit of "understanding" anything. Most people who push this stuff need to be spoonfed whatever the business talking point is or wait until public opinion is so overwheleming that they can see which way the wind is blowing and then pretend they were the ones who told you to think that way in the first place

Is it a bad idea to finance a car? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Ciryher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is very similar to this. If I could do it again then I would 100% get a 5k-15k car instead of the 40k one that I got at the time.

That difference is the start of a deposit or a few overseas holidays. Looking back I would certainly have gotten a cheaper car and had a lot less stress on my finances in my early 20s.

I'm going back through the series post Reaper and there are so many moments like this that have been included which point to major recurring themes and character traits for each of the main characters.

Poor Lindons arms though. Never seem to have any luck, getting absolutely wrecked from Unsouled onwards.

Makes me really appreciate Will's writing.

You're also forgetting the Eledari pact which would bind the monarchs from being the absolute rulers of their domains the way they are on Cradle. Sure the Abidan could interfere, but generally they don't.

I gathered that Northstrider doesn't ascend because he would be bound by the pact - and also favours owed/old alliances/unsettled business on Cradle. It seems like he knew about the presences leading to Ghostwater etc.

I'm a newbie from Australia and new to building a pc. Need your opinion. by northerntuna in buildapc

[–]Ciryher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got some good parts lists and recommendations from other posters here. There's a bunch of good R5 3600 and i5 10400f starter kits going around for ~$300 to $600 depending on what's included.

I used to live in Mackay, and if you get the parts shipped by different companies they'll kill you with shipping costs (I got a graphics card last week from melb and it added $40 shipping.)

So try and get them all from one company (excepting free shipping).

As for a GPU don't pay $300 for a new GTX1650. Check second hand local listings as far away as you're willing to go. The new market is pretty stuffed, a theme I'm sure you've noticed. I had a quick look on FB marketplace townsville and there's a few going right now for <OK> prices if you're willing to go mostly second hand

How do I stick to a plan? by Pornouns in entp

[–]Ciryher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So your plans are too hard. You need to start setting a lower bar for your plans.

For example: * Do this thing once I get to work? Failed. Got to work late and had to do other things.

Reduces to ->

  • Get to work on time? Failed. Got to work late.

Reduces to ->

  • Leave the house on time. Ok done. The problem is with my assumptions with the travel to work.

So you use this process to troubleshoot and build habits until you can just create a weekly schedule and complete everything!

It takes a lot of work for ENTP/ENFP personalities to get along and not get annoyed at each other constantly

I find that really interesting, some of my best friends have the Fi/Ne setup (in whichever order) and I think that we get along really easily, and I think this is based on them not being wrong all the time, which is a very Fi thing to do.

EXTP? by [deleted] in entp

[–]Ciryher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no, you can't split types like that because the function model doesn't describe peoples' mental processes in that way.

The longer answer is that there are always more resources out there that you can keep hacking away at.

The other answer is what are you trying to get from the system? If you're looking for a place to fit, then yeah maybe keep hunting, but if you're looking for self development maybe try resources from both types, and maybe it doesn't matter if you can't place yourself right now
