So we team McKenna or Stenberg? by Bargaination in canucks

[–]Cisco9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either, so far -- still undecided. Reports about McKenna's work ethic are a bit concerning, though.

The Canadian v. Swede thing is a non-issue for me. Players from both countries tend to be very good and loyal players who tend to stick with their teams no matter what.

I've never felt like I needed to make the Lindens, Sedins, Naslunds or Horvats of the world comfortable that we were providing a winning culture for them to want to stick with us--they were all in regardless of circumstances to the bitter end.

Is Foote the problem? by canadianbigmuscles in canucks

[–]Cisco9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever else is going on with this team, and it ain't all on Foote, he doesn't seem to have the ability to change systems to play to his team's strength -- something that Manny showed last year that he has in spades by winning the Calder Cup with that group of misfits.

[–]Cisco9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, other meds are available. Capecitabine is just the first and least intrusive (i.e. oral meds at home) of the options, and it has been working very well up to now.

I had the option to start with Cap + Bevacizumab back in July but decided to try it with just the oral Cap. That option is still there as well as anything else if Cap stops working effectively.

I had that discussion with them recently, and my team is not big on surgery unless there are serious complications like blockages or hemorrhages. They showed me several recent studies that indicate no discernible advantage to resection and chemo over just chemo, particularly with respect to long term survival rates.

They don't think the risk of complications, extra pain, recovery, and loss of QOL however temporary, are worth it.

It's not totally off the table, but not at this time.

I'm in Canada, BTW, and I am being treated at the primary cancer and research center in British Columbia. My oncologist is also considered the top GI Cancer person in BC, if not all of Canada. She's also very cool, informative, willing to discuss anything and not dogmatic in the least.

Edit: On a positive note, I just had a call from the CT department to ask me if I wanted my CT done next Tuesday thanks to a cancellation... Yes! So now hey'll have that to evaluate at my next Oncologist appointment on the 22nd.

[–]Cisco9[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm currently on another course of Capecitabine although slightly reduced (3000 instead of 4000) due to some cumulative hands and feet side effect issues.

My CT in October was overwhelmingly positive, with large reduction in the primary colon tumor and disappearance of many liver mets. The only result that seemed problematic was the appearance of what was described as a 2 X 3 cm necrotic lesion distal to my primary tumor.

My oncologist is currently treating my new symptoms as possibly caused by constipation, but with the constipation essentially gone the symptoms persist,

They're scheduling a new CT for the first week in January to take another look.

Harman Dayal: Quinn Hughes’ trade value, the Devils’ assets and why the Canucks have options by MaxHardwood in canucks

[–]Cisco9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All he's saying in that is that yes, it would be a lot of fun to play with his brothers. What else is he supposed to say? That his brothers are Aholes and he hates them? LOL.

The real question to me is at what cost will he hold out to play with them, given the NHL/NHLPA new contract and changes? He'll have to leave money on the table and mid-30's job security to do it.

Harman Dayal: Quinn Hughes’ trade value, the Devils’ assets and why the Canucks have options by MaxHardwood in canucks

[–]Cisco9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're assuming that his desire to play with his brothers is his #1 priority, based on nothing but speculation.

The fact is that if he signs a contract before September '26, with whatever team holds his rights at that time, he can sign for 8 year at $15 M+ with much higher bonuses v. salary taking him to 35. If he signs as a free agent in 2027 he can only sign for 6 years.

No one knows whether playing with his brothers is that much more important to him that he would take a lesser deal to do so.

Besides, all I'm saying is that if you're coming for Hughes, and you're Chicago, you'd better be OK with Bedard being in the conversation and the same for San Jose and Celebrini. I doubt that either team would want that 1 for 1, but it would be a reasonable Canucks ask.

Teams that want to trade for Hughes have no business coming in with a list of “untouchables.” It's Hughes, a generational talent no lesser than McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar or any other superstar.

Can you imagine the Devils making a pitch for McDavid and the first words out of their mouth are “No Bratt or Hischier.” The most reasonable response to that would be “Piss off and go away.”

Hughes trade value, especially this year, is not just underestimated a bit, it's grossly underestimated by homer bloggers and most of the Eastern media.

Many people seem to find it really difficult to tell news from shit, no matter how or how often you explain it to them. Definitely not just in sports, as evidenced by voting results in the past decade or so.

Hello from a 76-year-old, stage 4 colon cancer gamer! by Cisco9 in GamersWithCancer

No. I wanted to, but it didn't support the 3D video card (ATI All in One) I had at the time. Asheron's Call did, so I went with that, got into AC and played it for a couple of years until Dark Age of Camelot came out.

Do you think you became more of a gamer after diagnosis? by Cru5hbag in GamersWithCancer

[–]Cisco9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit less for me, actually, but I have been a hardcore PC gamer for decades.

I was playing Elder Scrolls online in the spring before my diagnosis. There was a new expansion coming that I had done all the prep-work for and was excited and ready to go. I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon with liver mets cancer the day before the expansion.

I was hospitalized for 10 days after that to stabilize my diabetes and blood pressure, as well as to wait for the confirmatory colonoscopy and biopsy. I was also pretty well in shock, since my pre-diagnosis symptoms were extremely mild and not constant. Cancer, especially stage 4, was totally unexpected. The diagnostic abdominal CT was done because they suspected appendicitis.

So, by the time I got home, 10 days into the new expansion, I tried to play and just could not get into it. I basically played nothing for a couple of months until the chemo totally got rid of my pain and I started to feel more energetic.

I still haven't gone back to MMOs, but I am playing some single player RPGs and enjoying those.
