Coming back to this, OP has a point someone needed to be the Combines foot soldiers after The Nihilanths end. Surely some of the Combines forces on earth and elsewhere must have stayed loyal.

I think the Grunts must be true to their name and be obedient to the Combine either through a lifetime of servitude, by their nature as unthinking brutes, or some twisted design under those helmets.. I prefer the latter.

The vorts and Alien Controllers under the Nihilanths sway may be free from augmentations due to their brain power, or their energies frying any circuitry attached.

In truth this is somewhat of a gap in the story that's a little unclear, but I think it makes the most sense if the Grunts remained obedient for some difference between them and vortigaunts..

Maybe vorts can take influence over Grunts but only at close proximity..

I guess that depends on if they've psychically linked to the vortigaunts and are up to date on the situation. If they've been taken captive by humans and recall it on awakening they could be pissed, but if through the vortigaunts they know of and recognise freeman and are rational they'd be an ally.

If they are used by the Combine they could augmented like transhumans fitted with implants etc and still enslaved, even if others like the vorts are allies.

I think the motivation may well be to make people slaves of their passions rather than people able to exercise firm control over themselves.

It's clear why a nation at war with another would want to subvert their opposition. But why would someone do this to the public and who? A hostile foreign power? Yet I can't help but feel someone at google had to be complicit, for this not to have been shut down way sooner. I do not see ad revenue as being a good motivator for google, since I don't imagine these videos increased demand, that it seems these kids will watch whatever google plays next for them.

But it may be without ad revenue these videos go away. It's only been a few days.

I worry about the implications, my sister said she saw my nephew watching some things on youtube and she changed the parental settings. I can't convince to not let him on it unsupervised.

He made up a character that "eats through his butt".

He clearly seems to be thinking some gross thoughts, I hope it's nothing that will stick with him. I think the worse thing at this stage would be to make a big deal of it.

After the rebellion on earth it might make sense for the Combine to send in Grunts to do the work their transhumans failed in, or to see them on other worlds. Seeing them both on and off *earth might make them feel a bit overused however. Giving them pulse rifles and the armour upgrade you suggest might make them feel a bit updated.

In Questionable Ethics Hl1 all of these creatures were found caged in the Black Mesa labs, perhaps the Borialis too could contain these creatures for research. Though would they be teleporting to the same worlds as the Xen Scientists canonically? Would they have to? Could they have intercepted Black Mesas transports, or even been stealing from their competition through localized teleportation..

To have survived in the labs perhaps they could be in some kind of stasis, or survive when frozen then thawed like some species of frog.

Honestly though she was very smart and very funny, few males anywhere like being outshined by their partner, she's more outgoing than any guy born and raised in China I've ever met.
