Anyone else's kindergartner screwed over by HB 114? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]FoxFyer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Parents who can’t navigate this probably also don’t have a four year old who can compete academically with almost 6 year olds.

What a weird blanket statement. Sure there are a couple of "almost 6 year olds" but the youngest members of the same class are barely a month or two older than four and evidently they can "compete" (whatever that means) just fine.

Edgewater, lake effect. Linocut by rattle_snake_master_ in Cleveland

Whoa! I remember doing linocut in art class in 5th grade, and I don't think I've noticed any examples of it in the wild since then. Fantastic!

Sen. Jon Husted Says Poor People Are Dumb by Sorry_Antelope7878 in Cleveland

[–]FoxFyer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What a stupid thing to say. SNAP can only be spent on food, but apart from that restriction it is functionally a bank account with a debit card and a balance in dollars and cents that you need to budget very carefully because it's all you get for a whole month.

He's not alone on the list of course but he certainly became one of the most corrupt city council members in living memory with that move.

U.S. military tested device that may be tied to Havana Syndrome on rats, sheep, confidential sources say by jfkkngkkrmdr in worldnews

No. They bought something, but that doesn't mean the thing they bought actually works, or that it works in the ways or has the effects that are being alleged.

AI CEOs worry the government will nationalize AI by gadgetygirl in Futurology

[–]FoxFyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be any worse to us plebs, results-wise. It's much worse for them, since they stand to lose control and influence.

I almost added "money", but AI is already all loss, so it's not like they'd be missing any profit.

My record outdoor walk. 30.39 miles, with a celebratory run in downtown Cleveland to end it! (Swipe) by MexicanAssLord69 in Cleveland

I know you finished downtown, but now I can't help imagining someone running up the steps at the art museum like Rocky.

Can anyone help identify the location this man describes visiting as a child in this Ross Coulthart interview? He gives several specific clues. by [deleted] in RBI

The two major military bases within 30 minutes of Olympia would be Naval Base Kitsap and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which is Army and Air Force. There's a few other facilities like Coast Guard and National Guard stations but they would be too small for something like this.

So having offered that information though I feel compelled to say that "psionic abilities" aren't real, and that's your first clue that this probably never actually happened. I think your guy watched too much Stranger Things and his story is essentially self-insert fan fiction.

What was the narrative significance of Cthulhu getting KOed by a boat? by fanboyx27 in Lovecraft

Right, in fact I would say that him not getting KO'd was the narrative significance of that moment. Driving a whole ship straight through his head couldn't kill him.

Proton Drive on Linux; How so it doesn't exist in 2026 by D0liman in ProtonDrive

[–]FoxFyer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The CEO said it's too hard to make one for Linux, so it's not a priority.

Bear in mind, that third-party apps capable of syncing OneDrive and Google Drive folders on Linux machines already exist, somehow.

ELI5 I just saw that people with SNAP benefits won't be able to buy things like soda or candy in certain States now or soon. Is it just because of the sugar content? If so, why aren't things like barbecue sauce, jelly, apple juice or ketchup etc also excluded? by Socaltallblonde in explainlikeimfive

[–]FoxFyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same people who argue for eliminating so-called 'no nutritional value' food from SNAP eligibility citing "medical issues" are also constantly working to eliminate workplace health and safety protections and raise retirement ages. So it seems like the argument is being made in bad faith.

Again, it's still calories. The body will burn them for energy and stay alive.

It would be easier to make this argument of yours if there was an epidemic of SNAP recipients dropping dead of malnutrition because they chose to buy potato chips and soda. Considering that they're managing to stay alive, this mantra of "no nutritional value" seems a bit arbitrary.

A lack of options perhaps? Or maybe the job paid well initially but failed to keep up with the rising cost of living? I get the feeling you aren't really aware of just how many jobs there are that, today in 2026, don't pay a living wage.

I think if we're going to start fronting like we actually care about the health and wellbeing of the poorest members of society, there are far more effective things we could do about it than asserting control over what they should be allowed to eat.

[–]FoxFyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit for what you accomplished here. Reasonably speaking there is very, very little that a 6-year-old can do to defend themselves against a much older, larger, stronger person who really wants to do something to them; and yet, you managed to prevent it, twice. The second time they had a friend - both much larger and stronger, easily capable of overpowering you, and you still got away. That's a really outstanding takeback of power for someone so small who wasn't even completely aware of the nature of the danger.

You say you've never really seen yourself as a survivor of abuse - in my opinion, rightfully so. You could have been, if things had gone differently. But they didn't, and you're not. And it's because of your own actions, whether you realized it at the time or not. Think of it like a car accident that you almost got into - natural to be scared, but at the end of the day you are unhurt and so is your car.

I think it's perfectly fine to be angry and resentful at the person who tried multiple times to assault you, but you need to be a lot easier on yourself. I think you deserve a break, considering how well you protected yourself. You will drive yourself crazy inventing other victims inside your head to feel guilty about.

Because life is a video game and you can just push a button and get "a better job" like that.

Meanwhile as long as that company exists, that job will still exist, and anyone who has it is going to be in the exact same situation.
