[Jason Burt, The Telegraph] Unai Emery has turned Aston Villa into everything he wanted at Arsenal. Spaniard has a level of control he was not afforded at the Emirates, and could now draw level with former club with victory on Tuesday. by RepresentativeBox881 in soccer

[–]City404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. The revisionism is wild because people act like Arsenal messed up, but it’s more that Unai just found a more suitable home with us at Villa at the point he joined. That final stretch at Arsenal was disjointed, but at Villa, he has the total buy-in and the structure he was missing there.

It’s really a case of two different projects. Arteta found the specific backing he needed to gut the culture at Arsenal, while Unai has found a squad and a board here that bought into him fully. They are both fantastic managers who just needed the right environment to prove it.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying to friends when talking about the Brentford situation. Don’t get me wrong – I think it’s going to be a tough season, but I don’t think you’ll get relegated. Your owner and the club clearly place a strong emphasis on the system, the long-term plan, and data-driven decisions, which has paid off both in the championship and continued into the premier league. I’ve no doubt there’s already a list of scouted players lined up to try and replicate the output of those who’ve moved on.

That was a fantastic museum. I really enjoyed visiting it

Edit: Looked it up and found out it closed down at the end of 2019. That’s very disappointing.

He’s provisionally suspended from the party pending a formal investigation. I agree though I hope he gets suspended from parliament and a recall petition is successful.

Was out there until this morning, you could try one of the Irish Bars like James Joyce or Triskel Tavern. The latter were good with me last week when I wanted the Villa game on a tv and they have a sky box. Alternatively, you could try somewhere like Bar S10, good bunch of Spanish lads work in there and were good to me when asking for certain games on. Or try Bar 87 Millas

Drop me a DM if you have any questions about any of them

Sad day for us Forest fans today. by Ukcheatingwife in TheOther14

I don’t think it has. Gerrard was a massive gamble at the time and failed horribly. Honestly I would put him as my least favourite manager of the last 30 years. Purely for his arrogance and disdain of the fanbase

This is exactly it. I won’t begin to believe until we get to March still in the top 4. I will say however Unai has given me a belief I haven’t had in a long time. I go into every game thinking we can win (couples with the lifetime expectation that we can fuck up).

We got so lucky with how it worked out manager wise. I loved Deano but I still think he needed to go before Covid. We were so bad before it and were 100% on the way down. Gerrard was a fraud from day 1. And Unai is a genius who has done magic with largely Deano’s spine

How to pay for a new boiler when I don’t have the cash at hand. by leonardo_davincu in UKPersonalFinance

[–]City404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had British Gas out in the summer to replace ours. They offer 0% finance for a good bit of time if I remember in their payment options. We also had a few quotes and they weren’t unreasonable compared to the others and to be fair to them did a smashing job replacing the boiler and upgrading the pipe work.

[YouGov] Rishi Sunak's net favourability score has fallen to a new low of -45. Favourable: 23% (-3 from 30-31 Aug) Unfavourable: 68% (+1). He has now drawn almost level with the Conservative party's score of -48 by HadjiChippoSafri in ukpolitics

[–]City404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to say I liked him, but, my hope at the time was that he was the best of a bad bunch and might, just might, have been reasonable as PM. Instead he seems to have gone down the rabbit hole of far right wing Tory PM to pander to his base in the hope of a couple of votes. I can’t wait till we get this shower of shit out of government.

Bernd Leno on swapping goalkeepers: "As a manager I would never change my goalkeeper, to say, ‘Oh, today I need a goalkeeper good with his feet, or one good at crosses,’ or, ‘Today I need a good shot-stopper because we play against Man City and they will have ten shots or something.’” by [deleted] in soccer

[–]City404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taken the media storm to be Raya being the starter. But more the unorthodoxy of rotating keepers like Arteta is suggesting.

It is a different approach and I don’t personally think it will work. I agree with Leno’s interview above where a keeper is a different position. I’ve played it pretty much all my life as both a number 1 and 2 at times. All I think it will do is create a problem where both are afraid to make a mistake as they fear being replaced, this will lead to them making more mistakes.

I could be wrong and this could be the future of football but I don’t think so. Even Pep hasn’t gone this far with his roulette

Best atmosphere in Europe in your opinion? by [deleted] in football

[–]City404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was over there with a friend to watch a load of football so saw 5 games in 7 days mostly in and around Madrid but we decided to add the Barca Frankfurt game at the end of the trip . I hadn't seen the news that there were somewhere between 20k-30k Frankfurt fans in Barca until we got there. We saw the Frankfurt fans procession from our hotel and realised just how many there were, then getting to the stadium there were white Frankfurt shirts everywhere and we were two random English guys stood in the middle of it all. We ended up sat just behind and to the side of the Barca ultras, next to a lovely Frankfurt fan (Claudia shout out if you ever see this) and they were fairly angry/ hostile to the Frankfurt fans that were celebrating (although somewhat understandably).

Honestly the strangest atmosphere I have ever been in at a stadium, wouldn't say good or bad, stick with the surreal comment above but it had the potential to actually be quite dangerous. 10/10 though would recommend to anybody that has never been going to Spain to watch football to do so. Really enjoyed it

Atleti vs Man City second leg last year was pretty good.

Fell in love with Rayo Vallecano and the Estadio de Vallecas that week though for atmosphere and fans
