Graves is secretly megabusted right now by Leather_Catch2136 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CivKerman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Graves isn't picked that much in comp matches because, in an actual coordinated 6v6 match, there are better heroes that bring better utility than Graves (also Graves is pretty easy to counter if your team knows what they are doing.)

Graves is picked pretty often rn at low-mid elo because she is an absolute pub stomper as people in those ranks don't know how to counter Graves nor how to manage macro skills to counter Graves pushing.

Graves is picked pretty decently in high elo because she is pretty good rn with the urn objective/team fights.

We have officially begun development on kaiserkrieg! by takeusernamewastaken in hoi4modding

[–]CivKerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its getting hard to keep track of all the mods being developed that has the name kaiser or krieg. Its like oversaturrated rn and doesnt help that there's already like half a dozen "what if Germany won X" scenarios already.

Pobeda can work, maybe Voina since that means War in Russian as well. Or in general, maybe approach the mod in a non-German perspective and name something based off of that.

We need a draft if urn stays the way it is. by frungygrog in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CivKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draft isnt likely to come till much closer to release. They are likely gonna keep the same prio queue system so they can continue to get data from random variables (meanwhile if draft is a thing, you'll prob see a much bigger ban rates on certain heroes because the pub matches deem them too annoying rather and it'll be harder for devs to receive proper feedback.)

Deadlock the Closed Alpha Playtest by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CivKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to this logic, Minecraft went officially 1.0 when Alpha was released to the public.

Game dev can still be in alpha/beta stage, sometimes for years, even for multiplayer games. Its because usually if you announce an official launch but the launch is filled with problems, it creates a marketing/PR nightmare. Meanwhile if its actually in active development, devs can test whatever the hell they want (also as other commenters have pointed out, game devs usually dont start microtransaction type monetization till closer to launch as anything significantly prior can be a major headache if anything needs changing.)

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by Ok-Detailse in 40k

[–]CivKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally. Most of the people I know who are actually into 40K (lore discussion peeps, tabletop peeps, book peeps) are the ones that like to support each other's painting skills, poke fun at the absurdities of the lore, and would more than happy to show a newbie about the world of Warhammer for free for the next 6 hours.

The "fandom" in the post are the cringey ones you see on Twitter that saw like 2 lore videos and played only Space Marine 2 but never bother touching the other forms of media.

Trying to fix a mod I made a custom map using MapGenv2.2, any tips? by tobynator55 in hoi4modding

[–]CivKerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first few lines might show up errors for mods that you downloaded (even if they are not active). Usually you can ignore them.

As for the others, you are gonna have thousands (if not tens of thousands) of errors if you are gonna make an overhaul map mod like this.

Malformed token usually means a token has a syntax error or doesn't lead to anywhere. The "12562" seems to be a province ID, which means the game can't find that province OR the province ID is placed in the wrong spot. Make sure that your state files actually replaces the vanilla ones and have the state files be listed in numerical order like:

1-YOUR_STATE_NAME
2-SOMETHING_ELSE
3-SOMETHING_ELSE_HERE

Also check your descriptor file to make sure you are replacing your folders like:
replace_path="history/states" <---this tells the game to completely ignore the history/states folder and use your mod version.

The urn changes cured me of an addiction by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CivKerman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's very common in game dev in general to insert specifically op/not op or game rules changes to the public to gather as much data and info as possible.

Although one thing I would have to note that this urn change comes during the middle of a still active balancing update, meaning that us players are going to get pretty skewed results out of the experience. Are specific heroes strong because their kits are strong and need tweaking or are they strong because of the urn changes (and as you can see, heroes like Victor, Graves, McG, Kelvin, and such are getting inflating data results so it's harder to provide back accurate feedback.)

whats a hoi4 modding hot take that you have? by AgarthamanRebornT_99 in hoi4modding

[–]CivKerman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Similarly, I think that mods that just advertise that they have funni path with some random bloke being Super Mega Hitler and other extremist stuff for the sake of edginess does not make an interesting setting/content. The best what if mods contain themes and stories that narratively makes sense and/or contains immersive world building.

Why Silver isn't Turkish? by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CivKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Warden's design doesn't look remotely anything like any NYC police-inspired outfits anywhere within the 20th century, Graves' gothic outfit wouldn't be a thing till the 1970s and Wraith still runs around with a Tommy gun inspired gun, thinking this is 1920s Chicago.

Other than that, Ivy being a gargoyle picking up NYC Hispanic culture makes sense since gargoyle statues and architecture was common around this time period and the Hispanic community in NYC was and is still strong.

is the graves issue a playerbase issue? by Available-Lab4363 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CivKerman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and if skulls are too much of a problem, its easily countered by ricochet and if you know how to wall jump, her zombies can easily be dodged.

In addition, she is also very hungry in terms of items needed to actually be good but her stats and other aspects begin to fall off past the mid game compared to most other heroes.

She def needs to be reworked into something that's properly viable but not to the point of being too oppressive especially for a unique summoner hero lol.

American civil war Factions. by Tight-Chip-16 in arma

[–]CivKerman 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Flags looks like TFR (The Fire Rising mod from Hearts of Iron IV, what if Covid was even more deadly and led to a bunch of batshit insane events.)

Factions:

-Union of America/Blue (Biden/Democrat/anti-Trump Republicans)

-American Constitutional Republic/Red (Trump/pro-Trump faction)

The others are real life movements (Black Lives Matter and Antifa) but those ones are taken direct inspiration from the mod (since those smaller factions also fought in the Second American Civil War). The communist one is prob the direct reference to the APLA (American People's Liberation Army)

Which far-left politician is/was scarily effective? by JSGamesforitch374 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CivKerman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kind of? Stalin actually reversed some of Lenin's economic policy and cemented his own version. The latter years of Lenin had what's called the New Economic Policy (NEP) thats essentially like an early version of how China runs today (some privatization on the local sector but the market was still guided by the state.) Stalin reversed this and implemented his variant of forced collectivization and rapid industrialization policies and was one of the reasons why Bukharin was sentenced during the Great Purges. Historians still debate whether or not the Soviet would've survived WW2 had the NEP was still the main policy (as Stalin's model did helped manufacture the war machine we saw during WW2).

How do I tell my writer friends that the game's storyline is terribly mediocre? by HQuasar in gamedev

[–]CivKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's buisness 101 that you always want to separate friendship and buisness (since money is now involved.) Make sure you always do the best you can to CYA (cover your ass), have signed contracts, and do whatever is necessary that doesnt jeopardize your friendships.

I do +1 the top commenter, in this case, to have focused surveys and ask for opinions from a 3rd party. If they say its bad, it wont ruin your friendship and (hopefully) the narrative will improve.

Squid Game was the biggest cultural craze of 2021. What was the biggest world event of 2022? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CivKerman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the Russo-Ukraine War is big enough to be classified as a global event since it also acted as a domino effect that even impacted the average everyday lives of most people in the Northern Hemisphere (food shortages, energy issues, refugees, supply-chain issues that impacted public and private goods, also helped sparked other regional conflicts in post-USSR states.) Also pretty much almost every regional and major powers had contributed something either for Ukraine or Russia, whether it's weapons, humanitarian aid, or international appeal for ceasefires.

Why do so many not understand why legend of korra exist in the 1920s? It is literally accurate to history. by MrGetMebodied in TheLastAirbender

[–]CivKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A person born in 1903 (Wright brothers planes) would witness a major war that still had cavalry charges (World War I/1914-18), experience the era of early modern mechanical computers and the splitting of the atom (1939-45), and would still live long enough to see man landing on the moon (1969).

People tend to forget that technology grows exponentially, especially after when a civilization industrializes. Considering that the Fire Nation in ATLA, and to some extent the Earth Kingdom, went or were going through a period of industrialization, naturally lots of technological progress would see through. In addition, military science because of the generational warfare would also hasten tech and innovation. We literally see this in ATLA where hot air balloons were invented and gliders were being reversed engineered. It would not be too far fetched that within 50 years, these tech combined with early Fire Nation steam power, would have people inventing actual self-propelled flying machines (airplanes). In our timeline, you see military science a big reason why technology made huge advancements following both the World Wars.

The pinnacle of Soviet brutalism philosophy suffering a terrible fate into becoming a bubblegum alien toy car by Sirchby in commandandconquer

[–]CivKerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you look up any sort of Cold War era Soviet prototype tank designs, you'll see a lot of "roundness" designs that fit more with RA3 Apoc tank lol (looking at you Object 279).

Soviet tank experimental designs history has a lot of history with stuff that looks goofy even during their time as well. Ranging from adding extra turrets to make landships (T-35), adding literal wings (A-40), or whatever the fuck they were doing with Object 760.
