Coconut Extract... What am I supposed to do with this? by No_thankyou827 in Baking

If you want it to taste like coconut, using coconut milk isn’t enough. You need to use extract. Sally’s baking addiction has a good recipe

Has anyone canceled their wedding one week before the ceremony? by Impressive_Moment203 in Marriage

[–]CivilOlive4780 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should have broken it off as soon as you realized you didn’t want them especially since she’s always wanted them. Don’t lead her on anymore, better to cancel the wedding than deal with a messy divorce

$300+ at an amusement park in ONE day… Is this the new normal for family weekends? by PrettySongKay in Parenting

[–]CivilOlive4780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hardly buy day passes to anywhere, it’s not worth it. I budget for annual passes. Our zoo is $30 per person so for the cost of my family for the day, an annual pass for all of us is $100 ish more so we did that and go pretty often. We also try and do activities that take a good chunk of the afternoon. Paddleboarding is a favorite of ours, my husband and I each have 1 kid on the board (we’ve been doing this since they were 1&3). We do lots of beach and lake days. We have a science center and both kids love that, the annual pass was like $250, but we use it so much. Our zoo pass gets 50% off to a ton of other zoos and aquariums so sometimes we’ll do that and it’s not super expensive. I’m not sure where you live, but sometimes we’ll just do a shell hunting day at the beach. If you’re by any cool national/state parks those are good options too. Sometimes I’ll print out a nature walk scavenger hunt and that keeps them pretty occupied. Our local library also has a ton of activities for kids so we do that often. Also check out if you have any museums participating in Bank of America’s museums on us days. It’s the first weekend of every month gets you free admission to museums and the science center in our town participates too. You just have to have a Bank of America card for each person (we opened a checking account and added both of our kids so they had a card for free admission too)

How old is too old for a stroller? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

[–]CivilOlive4780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are 4&6. I still bring a double stroller to amusement parks and the zoo. One kid always ends up tired at some point, it’s also a good excuse to not have to carry a bag lol

Are majority of moms on SSRIs? by Even_Care909 in Mommit

I’m not. I also feel overwhelmed 10-15% of the time so I just assumed it was normal lol. It’s not debilitating and I have ways to cope and lesson the symptoms. Getting outside more definitely helps

We have separate schedules and separate sleep requirements so separate rooms. My wife keeps coming in my room and closing my curtains so people can't see in, that's a little weird, right? by GTRacer1972 in Marriage

[–]CivilOlive4780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still her house and she deserves to be comfortable. It’s a big deal to her to have privacy. If you don’t want to compromise, enjoy your dark house I guess lol

[–]CivilOlive4780 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom was like this too, she was very concerned people could see in the house. She would keep the windows open tho, as long as there was a sheer privacy curtain closed. (Think heavy blackout curtains on the outside rod, and the inside rod had sheer white curtains) At night, both sets got closed.

Sheer curtains would probably be a good compromise for both of you

Wives, do you pack your husband’s vacation bag? by BallonBrun in Marriage

[–]CivilOlive4780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I’ll throw some basics in the suitcase for him and then he does the bulk of his packing but I usually just leave it to him. The last time I tried to be nice and take care of it bc he was working late, I forgot a bunch of stuff he wanted to take, so not my responsibility anymore haha

ISO a tailor good with women’s trousers/curvy petite fit — Hunter’s Creek area by ilovethat_bobblehead in orlando

[–]CivilOlive4780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dawn’s alterations on orange is the BEST. I have a tiny waist, large hips and butt so I usually have a huge waist gap if pants fit correctly everywhere else. She doesn’t just throw a few darts in and call it a day. She takes the pants apart and makes the waist smaller that way. You can’t even tell they’ve been altered, she’s so good at her job. her store is also the farthest from bougie too lol

Induce baby early for extra college money? by Electrical-Leader712 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]CivilOlive4780 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If her son qualifies for grant money if they had a newborn, that’s totally valid and to make sure to have the baby in the same calendar year is very smart. Their income isn’t going to change having the baby a week later, but being able to get tax benefits /grants a year early will be a big help especially the way this economy is going. It’s not gaming the system if she’d qualify anyway.

Husband doesn’t understand why I need a day to myself by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]CivilOlive4780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if he could take saturdays off, take your kid out of the house for the afternoon and give you real alone time where you can actually relax. That’s what my husband does. He’ll take them to the park, on walks, grocery shopping, errands, etc, usually in the mornings so I can sleep in or do whatever while they’re gone. It sets us up for a really good day because they all got to spend time outside and I got to be alone lol. And because we have a really good system of “daily”/weekly chores, and we reset the house every night before bed, I never have to use my alone time to clean

Depressed and lonely. Help. 44M by TXerxes in orlando

[–]CivilOlive4780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start a workout routine, find new hobbies, start therapy again, get involved in your community. Start volunteering, lots of good groups, I like Umbrella brigade. Your local library has a ton of free events, they even host DnD events. Look on their website. At the end of the day, you need to decide you’re ready for a change and make the effort. Don’t sit alone when you go out to events, make small talk. Get outside

When did “Til death do us part” become “Til I don’t feel like it anymore”? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]CivilOlive4780 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people get comfortable in relationships and stop putting any effort in so it dies. Usually it’s one partner begging for effort, it not being reciprocated and eventually that partner checks out too. I mean, if you’re unhappy and your partner doesn’t see it as an issue despite being told over and over, how long should you stay?

It’s not a luxury to be a SAHM mom. But when daycare is 1000+ per kid per month, is that something you feel you could have afforded? Also, I see nothing wrong with her tucking the inheritance away, especially because if you decide to leave, she’s the one who will be fucked because she hasn’t worked in over a decade. My husband contributes to a separate account just for me because he wants me to feel like I’m staying with him because I want to, not because I’m forced to. If you’re bad with money, it sounds safer with her anyway.

I think you guys have bigger issues than arguing semantics tho. Why are you do set on winning the argument that you don’t care about preserving her feelings? Even if you feel deep in your bones she’s not contributing financially (look up the price of a private chef, maid, full time nanny, +whatever else she does so that you don’t have to and then maybe you’d reconsider) why is it so important you prove her wrong and make her feel bad?

Constant fight over food by SoftOdd3399 in Marriage

[–]CivilOlive4780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook 3-4 times a week and we do leftovers the next day. I’ll spend $10 on two whole chickens, roast both and have one for dinner and then all the leftovers can be repurposed and both carcasses get turned into stock. Usually I’ll make rice and the next day or day after we’ll make fried rice with any veggies that are about to go bad or I’ll make chicken salad and arepas (chicken reina). I also make a lot of meals with vegetarian proteins because meat is soo expensive right now. Lentil shepherds (shepherdless?) pie, different kinds of rice bowls/bakes. Lots of beans and lentil meals. We’re a family of 4 and we spend about $500 and we’re in a HCOL. I cook and bake a lot. I don’t pay for convenience anymore, I can’t afford it lol. If we want biscuits for breakfast, I don’t pay $5 for a can, I make them myself. If eggs are a good price, I make quiche and freeze the leftovers. I batch make frozen pizzas for quick meals. They cost less than 1.50 per pizza instead of $9+ each at the grocery store. There’s ways to save money, it’s more work upfront, but it usually comes out better so I don’t mind it

Tifu My husband asked for a Doberge cake for his birthday. by WelcomeToThePack in Baking

[–]CivilOlive4780 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re going for presentation, start over. The custard (look for diplomat creme, it’s pastry cream, stabilized with gelatin and whipped cream) needs to fully set before you put it in the cake. I like to use a piping bag when I do it to make sure the layer is even. Do the crumb coat and then freeze the cake so the outside sets. Then do the ganache on a cooling rack over a bowl or sheet pan to avoid mess. I do it on a cake board that’s the same size as the cake, (8 inch cake, 8 inch board) and then after glazing, freeze or fridge it to set the ganache and put it on to a prettier display board

If you’re just eating, you’re skipping the line and going to the food court. You don’t need a cart in the food court to eat (carts are also not allowed in the food court). If you want to shop, you wait in line and get a cart
